And what did the other cinematics confirm?
I think this one needed a bit more emotion, but as far as plot I think it was fine.

One major flaw (there are quite a few) in DVa’s character, and probably the biggest is that she’s a Mary Sue character who is loved by everyone (except those darn baddies of course!), and doesn’t really need help.
They’re pushing the “independent” part of her character to the point where she pretty much does everything.
The other cinematics did much more this did literally nothing even bastions cinematic did more for the character, the only cinematic that didn’t really confirm anything is the museum cinematic
The whole thing on how she broke her arm and leg didn’t make much sense to me either as I don’t really know how she could have? She jumped out and landed in water so I’m not sure if she broke it when trying to get out or so?
water isn’t soft, if you hit it as speed you can die
I liked the Reinhardt short because it gave an insight into the Omnic crisis, it let us see how Reinhardt got his current mentality (Honour and Glory) and it actually progressed the story, even slightly (Reinhardt joining New Overwatch)
I know. All of that made his short the best, but the hair was all everyone talked about lol
Yup. Retcon once again!
Also, they presented the threat as serious, which almost took down entire MEKA squad. And it came back earlier than expected. And what happened?
D.Va single-handed destroyed almost all flying squids in her a little damaged MEKA and “NERFED” the last one with a little help from her friend ;p
That was quite OP to me.
The map reveal was more emotional than the short.
I agree. D.va was always the “Mary Sue” type, even before the short.
I mean, the city buildings had her face everywhere which made it more “Mary Sue”-ish for her. Now if it was only Busan, it makes some sense since she was born there and they are probably proud to represent her.
However, if it’s all of Korea in love with her (most likely) that’s cringy a bit. I mean, D.Va is the most popular nut she isn’t doing this alone? They always worship D.Va as if she’s the only one who does things? I mean, what about the others?
How was it they didn’t see an attack coming? Aren’t they supposed to be on duty or on watch 24/7?
Such as what? What have we ever learned about a hero which we didn’t learn the equivalent of in this cinematic?
Think they were only wounded, they were ‘rewarded with a vacation’, and shown giving interviews. Same as she was rewarded with a vacation with a broken arm and leg. And her comments about her friend watching too many holovids; because all that VIP stuff was basically made up.
Except for the part where she needs help…
It shows the persona of gamer girl is largely media hype to play up their heroes and play down the threat, which is obviously immense. It tells us not just about D.Va but how SK is dealing with this threat as well, it builds on the world probably as much, if not more than it does her.
True. That is true.
Wish they made the “Slap” sound though to make it an impact, indicating it was rough. They cut it too early I think. It would have been better and make more sense to the hospital scene.
Complacency through routine, this obviously wasn’t a ‘big’ attack which they can set their watches by, but a new smaller more opportunistic one they hadn’t seen before.
You mean except for the single part of the short where she needs her friend to help her, but then it turned out that his help needed her help in order to work?
It’s also the only thing he does during the short. Despite supposedly being a mechanic, he’s the one handing her the tools. Not a major point, but it’s still weird.
Depends on what is considered a “major attack” I think? I mean, where do they draw the line? I’d think any threat that will destroy or kill a person should always have units be on guard 24/7 especially living right across an Omnic base.
He did say they were attacking too early so maybe that’s why nobody knew? However, they still should have been on guard in my opinion.
If you put the friendship scenes of Reinhardt / Balderich Von Adler and D.Va / Whoever that childhood friend guy is together, the latter looks pale when it comes for emotion and atmosphere compared to the one we got in Honor and Glory.
I was holding tears in the previous short. This so-called friendship that was displayed in this short felt utterly awkward and soulless. ( This guy hinted jealousy of all things ) Heck, we even got the scenario of ‘one friend is ready to die’ scene like in Honor and Glory and it didn’t feel the same like, at all. Perhaps because D.Va is alive in current timeline anyways ? I don’t know.
The writing, no no.
COUGH COUGH korea, a big market for blizzard. it had to be done.
They’re not expecting an attack for some time, there’s no urgency for him, so he’s sat watching holovids.
Seems the Omnics there had built some kind of routine and become predictable, probably based on their capacity to build new units. She comments that they’re learning and adapting, which is something seemingly news to everyone else.
How does that relate at all to what I said? I know Blizzard said he was lazy, but come on, at that point he’s literally not doing the job he’s employed to do (unless he’s not being paid?)
