To all the damage boost haters

Zen goes splat, so it’s not an actual issue overall. Mercy does her boomerang crap and basically never dies.

It happens all the time. All the heroes effect one another, and shift the meta. If someone’s counter gets nerfed, boom indirect buff to them.

Yup

So what changed with Mercy and her interactions? Sojourn was nerfed, Mercy puts her in pre nerf state, therefore Mercy is the problem and not the short sighted changes, yes?

Roadhog is best tank, less healing needed. Mercy can now pocket without sacrificing the tanks survivability.

If you ask me, Orisa is the best tank. This whole Roadhog is overpowered sham is a joke, he’s not hard to deal with. And Orisa, she needs some healing.

Also if Mercy is overpowered straight up, the tank pick shouldn’t matter. That’s how Sojourn and Kiriko are, they’re straight up strong regardless of team comp. Mercy is only “overpowered” right now because they don’t want to nerf Sojourn the way they should and just get rid of the rail gun headshots.

If Sojourn couldn’t one shot period, I promise you Mercy wouldn’t be so notorious. Damage boost is overrated.

Sometimes they are together, but sojourn has high mobility so will often be taking off angles, which are much easier for mercy to get to than zen. But the main thing is that the discorded target will, statistically, usually not be the target sojourn railguns. it’s way less consistent and way less oppressive than sojourn mercy, which is why sojourn hasn’t catapulted zen into the meta.
I am saying all this but it hardly matters-Mercy is not the problem, sojourn is. Once she gets nerfed mercy will be fine.

That’s the whole crux. If damage boost was the problem, Zen would be meta too since he has way more potential than Mercy.

For people who didn’t watch the video, Niandra states:

  1. Damage Boost requires more skill than healing with mercy.
  2. Every mercy pocketed enemy should be treated as a 2v1 and stopping them is easy if you give them the respect they deserve unless your teammate “eat glue”.
  3. Replacing damage boost with a cleanse wouldn’t work because damage boost is something she can do nonstop until she needs to heal, unlike cleanse which would either have too much downtime or zero use in certain situations, or would make Gun mercy her go to inbetween fights which ruins the hero’s identity.
  4. Nerfs like a damage boost meter could work, as long as it doesn’t lower mercy’s uptime but stops her from pocketing a dps forever.
  5. Most agree that Sojourn is the problem, not mercy, so we should wait a month after she’s dealt with.
  6. Replacing damage boost with weapon fire rate increase sounds fine on paper, but would throw off some heroes weapon timing with it flicking on and off between shots.
  7. Having a discussion about Mercy damage boost means we should have a conversation about zen’s discord as well, the only reason zen isn’t such a hot topic rn is because mercy’s in a better state, but as soon as zen is meta, you’ll have the same damage boost problem all over again.

Ressurect

  1. Removing Rez through walls would be so bad, that they might as well scrap the ability, since most rez’s that people pull off are only pulled off because of this.
  2. Mercy players wouldn’t hate the idea of rez’s power being replaced or shifted to somewhere else in her kit instead if the wall rez is too powerful/unfun.

If I got everything right, you should edit your post and include this word for word for people who don’t wanna watch.

Mercy Damage boost is part of the the problem, but mercy isn’t, if you see what I mean. If it wasn’t for mercy damage boost, sojourn would still be very strong, but not nearly as oppressive as she is now. So damage boost is an aspect of the problem, but it’s more the devs’ fault for not realising that the sojourn mercy interaction would be oppressive, than it is mercy for having damage boost. Damage boost is problematic on sojourn, but it’s sojourn that should get nerfed because she’s great on her own and mercy isn’t.

I get that, damage boost changing breakpoints is significant and becomes problematic when it turns things into instakills. That’s the only time it’s a “problem” though, so that’s relatively easy to avoid.

Sojourn just needs her railgun to not do headshots, plain and simple. Her gun does enough damage as it is, it not instantly killing people wouldn’t change Sojourn’s viability a lick.

I agree. Damage boost does make other dps do a lot of damage, but it’s fine because most other supports can help to kill a target just as fast, if not faster, than a damage boost will. I don’t really understand why all of this hatred for mercy just appeared as soon as sojourn+mercy became meta because it’s not like mercy is the problem in that duo.

That thumbnail is a pretty cursed image.

you cant go from mediocre to mandatory. sojourn is busted with and without a Mercy.

I stg people act like Mercy hasn’t had this exact gameplay style/role/stats for years and years. Blizzard stupidly tied Sojourn’s OPness to Mercy, so they’re now inextricably connected. The problem is Sojourn, not Mercy and I don’t know how that’s not obvious to some people

Many people tether to Mercy as an issue because she’s always a pairing people have to consider when a character gets nerfs or buffs. When you think about it Ashe used to have a 2HKO method. 160dmg headshot + 40dmg base shot. However, due to Mercy, Ashe lost that 2HKO combo.

However, I do feel its overrated because several heroes have had useful breakpoints, but no one has really considered those pairings very meta defining. Genji never really lost his 30dmg shuriken. With Mercy pocket he has 30+ shuriken breakpoint and can even blade with Valkyrie up to get strike + blade 2HKO kills. S76 lost his 20dmg breakpoint, but Mercy never helped me be meta by hitting a juicy breakpoint.

The same is true for many tanks. Zarya’s DPS output or Dva’s is pretty nasty when boosted, but its again another pairing no one cares about.

Please do go on.

Guess that’s why players at the top of the ladder are mirroring Mercy pockets instead of stopping the mercy pocket by giving it the respect it deserves :+1:

This completely contradicts itself. The point of a metered ability would be so that it actually reduces uptime.

Looking at the majority of posts here the agreement is this is just another meta caused by damage boost thresholds breaking a character. Let’s gaslight everyone though, into thinking it isn’t Mercy’s fault when she’s the common denominator in all of these pocket centred metas.

More gaslighting trying to deflect the blame onto another hero. Zen’s damage boost is easily more balanced because of a number of reasons.

His damage boost gives the enemy knowledge of the ability targeted on them so they can play around it.

It requires LoS.

It cannot be used to boost damage against non hero enemy targets (wall/lamp/turrets etc).

It is single target.

Zen trades up a lot of survivability in exchange for his discord orb. The devs acknowledge how strong the ability is and make him the easiest kill to secure the game because of it.

Mercy meanwhile gets mobility buffed, has more survivability in a better self heal, and has a higher damage boost percentage on top of that. The scales heavily favour Mercy damage boost being the stronger of the two it’s kinda unreal this conversation even has two sides to it. Discord has been nerfed for ow2 to accommodate for one tank largely taking up the majority of the discord uptime. Meanwhile Mercy damage boost is supposedly fine?

Yes, but who he puts the discord orb on has at least “some” control. You can break LOS to remove it.

Zen can dish out massive amounts of damage while damage boosting teammates.

Also, “gaslighting” is not having a difference of opinion lol please learn what that term means

“Gaslighting is a manipulative tactic in which a person, to gain power and control of another individual, plants seeds of uncertainty in another person’s mind .”

It literally is gaslighting, trying to destabilise players conviction about mercy damage boost through saying “but look, Zen…”

It has no cooldown, so unless you play hide and seek, he will just reapply it every time he sees you.
