But you made it. Who’s it about? What? Bro you are crazy.

I get the distinct impression you are the one being toxic in chat. People in game call you out on your crap and so you came here to cry about it?

just turn it off lmao
its like getting mad at a sports game when the opposing team shakes hand with you the wrong way, you dont have to interact with them at all if you are this stingy

I agree with getting rid of it. More shooty shooty, less typey typey

Or you can go immersion therapy and learn how to take criticism/name calling from total strangers on the internet without having an emotional breakdown.

I agree with that. The chat is just being used to muck and insult the other players, or be abusive to teammates who didn’t play to their likings

It’s a toxic cesspool. that served no purpose

I have made most of my friends by using chat and I see positive interactions all the time. Wanting to remove something without my consent, that you already have the ability to disable if YOU don’t want it is ASININE.

We agree it doesnt resolve the issue, but attempting at teaching braindead people with poor parenting (sarcasm) doesnt do any results either.

Wait till you spend time in middle easy lobbies, the toxicity is off the charts be it QP or Compy. It is what it is.

They represent themselves, you represent you.

I just use a VPN to Singapore and play there. 90%+ lobbies are peaceful, people are better. Which is quite the change of experience for me.

That’s my advice at least to you.

TLDR: You cant teach monkeys, they do monke stuff - those basic retorts arent always ban/warn/report material either, so avoid this drama and turn chat off if you can or enable filtering.

pro tip:
/hidechat
but don’t share this secret with anyone

if you NEED communication, tell your team to join vc.

I wouldn’t mind if when I /hidechat it shows other users in game that I’m currently hiding chat.

Just like it shows how many players are in voice

It’s optional for everyone. So it doesn’t matter who you’re supposedly posting this for (be honest, it’s you).

It also takes an incredible amount of hubris to believe you have the right to demand something is removed on everyone elses behalf as if you somehow know best. Giving everyone their own personal choice on whether to use a feature or not is less authoritarian and more reasonable, no?

Here is what I wish the devs would do… this would SOLVE the issue for people like you, OP, and me.

I want to BLOCK players that have, in the past 3 months, used any phrase in match chat that I blacklist.

So if I get a match with/against anyone who has used the phrase “ez” or “e z” or " L " or “tank diff” or “free tbh” or “trash healers”, etc. any phrase I choose to blacklist, then those people are already blocked in my match chat before I even start the match.

This feature alone would DRASTICALLY improve the game experience in ways I can’t even imagine.

lets censor everything!

history has taught us that censorship leads to nothing good

I don’t even tilt at the crap people say. What gets me aggravated is being reported for asking players to group up, or defending myself my hero pick, or for not saying anything at all.

I’ve gotten a full two week suspension the next day after having CHAT OFF in QP matches!!!

Match chat is also used for other things like being silly or joking. I don’t really see why we should get rid of it just because of toxic players… I mean most toxicity happens in team chat anyways and nobody wants to remove that(which is good obviously)

It does…

It legit removes match chat…

which is exactly what you want to do…

For games like TF2 where the game is hosting by someone as a third party. honestly turning OFF “Match chat” is just better for the server. That way we get rid of BIAS and it saves a bundle of money on server costs

I have always been a fan of disabling the text chat channels, but when I do feel like having them on - there’s a setting in controls in options where you can set a key to hide the chat box. You can do it by typing /hidechat also but I like to have a shortcut. If it’s a bad lobby or people are starting to get toxic, just press the shortcut and enjoy silence the rest of the game. I don’t think they should be removed entirely - as much as people use them for bad, more people use them to be silly and banter. Many of my friends would never disable chat because they love using it for that purpose and find the things other people say entertaining.

Calm down man, even if op is wrong you won’t be fighting for freedom in ow2 match chat xD

i fight for glory in OW2, but if we start thinking its ok to censor things in game, how long till that thought becomes pervasive outside of the game?

its a slippery slope is all
