Tips for Genji?

When he’s on top of me, moving completely off my screen the instant he jumps, it’s a lot harder. Hence why I said, double jump on top of Zenyatta. Also, being on console doesn’t help, but this makes it considerably harder to track him on PC too.

Ok, now I understand. LUL

Genji requires good tracking mechanics and aim, use his 1st skill and use 2nd only at very close distances.

Also, he requires lot of training as unlike most of heroes he shots after animation delay, which screws new genjis in close distances. Shooting targets from above is tricky too, especially with 2nd button.

Then you need good game sense and fast reaction as he is strongest at melee range, and melee range require very fast reactions.

People here cry Hanzo has no counters, truth is - Genji destroys Hanzo. Dash-RMB-Melee combo will leave Hanzo with like 20hp. If he wasnt full health, he just dies. If your RMB goes into head, he just dies.

From here comes another thing - you must know how long the dash is. So its all about practice and practice.

And useful trick of Genji - his climb cancels deflect. I prefer to deflect only near walls, so I can cancel it if needed.

Yes, ignore my actual point to make fun of le console pleb. Genjis sure are good at deflecting.

Go into the training room and practice the burst damage combo. Get used to the distance. Right click and hit all 3 shurikens on the head> melee> dash. It’s like 3-4 m that sweet spot, memorize it.
When you are outside this sweet spot always aim a little bit left or right of the head to hit at least 2 shurikens.

Then practice hitting left click from at least mid range distance, to get used to the lead.

Don’t dash in.
Always farm ult when you don’t have it.
When you ult make sure Zen is dead.

Target prioritization is snipers then healers. I would say bastion is in between but it depends on how heavily he is guarded.

Watch pro genjis and see how they traverse maps.

Also looking down, hit boxes are bigger, for when you ult.

Choose your engagement when your team is ready to push.

Then practice a lot, genji really starts to click at about 80 hours or so.

Not really, he is not bad I would say.

Just the truth mate, harder to hit on console, when we speak about something it’s always on PC, even Blizzard doesn’t care about console so…

As for who you should and shouldn’t engage–
DO
Tanks: Reinhardt, Orisa (while alone, please disregard any request to dive the enemy team head on alone), D.Va from a distance, save your dash for after she boosts. They make ult charge so much easier.
Damage: Treat Ashe similar to Widowmaker, and try your hardest to close the gap between you and her before using dash. She’ll probably use her coach gun to get distance. Bastion, keep your distance with Doomfist, Other Genjis if you’re confident, Hanzo is /possible/ but a huge pain because of SA and lunge, Junkrat, facegib Reaper with deflect, Soldier, Tracer, and Widow.
Support: Ana, Baptiste, Lucio, Mercy, and Zen are only able to win that engagement if you royally screw up or are outplayed.

DON’T:
Tank: High charge Zarya, Roadhog, Wreckingball, Winston.
Damage: Mei, Sym, Torbjorn, Pharah & Sombra.
Support: Brig and Moira. Obvious reasons.

Go to spawn, swap to Brigitte.

Jk

Honestly, id watch videos of pro/top 500 Genji players and analyze what they do. You can learn better positioning, as well as other small genji mechanics.

Some tips i can give you is that deflect can be cancelled if your beside anything you can wallclimb, just quickly climb that and its cancelled.

You can also cancel the sheathing of genjis blade by dashing at the end of it, or by wallclimbing, it can save you in a pinch if you are low health.

dont duel moira or winston, ALWAYS dash away after they use leap/fade. Also be sure to use secondary fire before using every single ability.

This is really poor Genji play that you described.

Practice ghost dashing- kill someone with a dash and then flick to a new direction and use the dash reset the second that it’s up. Practice chaining these.

Also, practice 180 spins. You want to be able to dash through someone and reliably turn to hit them.

Also gms play genji to farm the ults.

That is not the best way to play Genji nor is it good. It’s nothing but poor use of a hero’s kit. Genji is an assassin, not an ult-bot. The best way to play him is always assassinating healers in the backline and finishing low HP targets. Assassinations are his intended and dominantly used purpose.

If all you’re picking a hero for is their ultimate you’re better off picking someone else. Why have inconsistent value if you can have consistent value.

A good tip for Genji is to right click before you use an abiltity, or even wallclimb.
Also, another very unknown tip that really only the bests Genji players know, is that you can right click and melee, and cancel the melee animation with ulti.
It will only take one more slash to kill any squishy, even if it’s bastion in sentry form. (Assuming of course you land the headshots)
