Hi all. Hoping some devs see this, it’ll contain my thoughts for a couple of the recent gamemode tests.
5v5 in general: As a diehard tank main, 5v5 has always felt awful. From the first announcement, I knew it would. I have not played tank for more than one or two games at a time since OW2 came out. We all know the reasons behind this, so I won’t get into that much here.
2-2-2: It was great. It felt like old Overwatch, but a hollow shell somehow. Tanking was fun, and I only played tanks. I do think the health changes need to be reverted, and I don’t think the passives fit into 6v6 very well. Hog’s one shot felt inconsistent, but other than that, all the other tanks felt very similar to what they once did. Make no mistake, a mountain still has to be climbed before 2-2-2 would ever hope to bring anyone back. Some of the reworks such as Roadhog need to be permanently reverted for the character to have any hope. 6v6 old style hog was SO FUN, the right clicks hit like a good drug.
Min1Max3: I did not enjoy this version of 6v6. It felt chaotic and unorganized. It felt very akin to 5v5 where people just pick a character and then run around and do whatever they want. My M1M3 games were not fun, and I’d almost rather 5v5, but M1M3 tank was still much better than 5v5 tank. The way that M1M3 made OW feel was not cohesive and not like the old 6v6 teamplay feel. I couldn’t feel anyone working together, and I truly do think that OW is meant to be 2-2-2 due to it needing that cohesion and evenness that 2-2-2 brings.
I don’t have many more thoughts than this, hopefully the perspective was somewhat helpful. Overwatch needs to change A LOT and it needs to happen VERY SOON. If not, Marvel Rivals will simply take over with all the excitement and hype it’s bringing in. Speaking of which, it’s time to uninstall OW to play some Marvel Rivals, as there is no desire to play the game in its current state.
Overwatch was my main addiction for 6 years, 4 months, 10 days back when it came out in 2016, and it was some of the best times of my life playing with friends. It rips my heart out to see what Overwatch has become, and though I’ve been one of the ones who remained optimistic, even I need to now admit that we’re nowhere close to restoring the game to its former glory. The damage has been done, and it’ll likely take at least a year and a half to begin to fix the state of Overwatch and to restore trust and draw people back in.
All in all:
- 6v6, 2-2-2 is the only way OW will survive and thrive
- Get rid of role passives
- Revert season 9 health changes
- Get rid of the couple hated reworks
- Remove/rework low skill cleanse/aoe abilities such as Suzu, Immo Field, etc
I think that’s it. All the best, I’ll absolutely be checking in if some promising stuff comes through. Good luck!!
