Think Dae-hyun will be made playable down the line?

D.Va’s friend from the Shooting Star short. Remember, Brigitte was originally just a story character until she was promoted to the game proper, think this could happen with him?

Plus, let’s not forget that other characters started as seemingly insignificant but were given a bump to Hero status. Ana was thought dead, Doomfist was just in the background, Moira cameoed in Masquerade, and Wrecking Ball was alluded to in the past both in HLC and in name at Junkertown.

So I’d say him becoming a Hero isn’t out of the question. It’s suggested that he’s envious of D.Va’s fame and wants some for his own. That could be his motivation to joining the fray.

As for his gameplay, not sure. He’s a mechanic, which would likely make him a Support. He has a hoverbike, and I wonder if they could integrate that into his gameplay somehow.

What do you think?

I was at a con and Chu said he wanted to delve more into the Meka Squad in the future.

I’m personally holding out hope for D.mon to become a playable character in the game, as she would both the be the perfect foil, and companion for D.va.

But I could handle Daehyun too, depending on the circumstances (mainly on if it’s executed well).

Daehyun’s background is too much like Brigitte. There are already 2 mechanics/engineers in the cast.

And we have multiple medics. Your point?

He will never be in game just like Max, Dae-Hyun is just repairing some mechs on base, he is minor character, and should remain minor character, okay?
He is boring. Just like whole short. DO NOT ADD HIM PLEASE!

difference being brig was in the story around launch in many forms.

rein comic/ rein short/reflections being notable appearances.

I think the difference between Dae-Hyun and these ones are… Dae-Hyun is just a mechanic in an organization that already has 4 more potential heroes in mech pilots. Brig was Reinhardt’s squire, Ana was an Overwatch founder and captain that was never explicitly said to be dead, Doomfist was a villain that had an entire map dedicated to him, Moira was on the Talon council, and Wrecking Ball was the champion of the Junkertown arena. These are a lot more military or in line with the other types of heroes we have, while Dae-Hyun is just shown to be a mechanic (yes Brig was a mechanic too, but she was also Don Quixote’s Reinhardt’s squire, and her taking up arms falls in line with classical chivalry and knighthood). I’d say he’s not very likely.

How would you say that?

Dae-hyun was the deuteragonist of Shooting Star. That makes him quite likely.

Sure, but he didn’t do anything that would make him playable-worthy, nor is his character or position one that would take up arms in game. He appears to be a non-combatant. Likewise, we’ve already had other shorts with non-combatants in prominent positions. I’ll make a short list of all other characters from shorts that weren’t heroes.

  • Brian and Timmy in the cinematic short (also children)

  • Athena in Recall (disembodied announcer)

  • Mondatta in Alive (Also dead)

  • Alejandra in Hero (Another child)

  • Katya Volskaya in Infiltration (CEO, sent Zarya to do a job for her)

  • Brigitte in Honour and Glory (Was established as his squire in the comics. Also got redesigned in the short, and became a hero.)

  • Ashe and Bob in Reunion (Their debut)

If you look at comics and Archives as well, you can add a few more prominent characters:

  • Brigitte in Dragon Slayer (Established as Rein’s squire)

  • Anubis in Mission Statement (Doesn’t have a body, but is prominent)

  • Sanjay in A Better World (Was just Symmetra’s superior. His reveal as Talon came later, which is what upped his chances IMO)

  • Sven in Destroyer (Combatant but forgotten to time. Needs to be relevant again first IMO)

  • The Talon council in Masquerade (Gave us Moira/Max/Sanjay. Moira is a hero, Max was shown to be a pushover in Storm Rising, Sanjay is still a mystery)

  • Bruce in Wasted Land (Engineer, not an apparent combatant)

  • Lynx in Searching (While they don’t fight, they are prominent and does act as a foil to Sombra)

  • Antonio in Retribution (Dead)

Overall, there are a lot of major and minor characters I cannot see ever being heroes, despite having primary roles in shorts or comics. The only ones from this list I can envision becoming playable at the moment are Sanjay, Sven, and Lynx. Dae-Hyun just doesn’t seem any more likely to me than Bruce or Katya Volskaya.

Hope not. He is a very bland character.

Yeah, no connection tbh. Would be odd having him be up there with all the other heroes we have rn

I REALLY want to see Casino or King in Overwatch. And if not them, Daehyun. A lot of people seem to be interested in D.Mon and I feel like she’s the most likely, but I hope I’m wrong. I’d be disappointed if she was added, I reckon, or at least the first to be added.

They’re all unique and interesting in their own way:

  • Casino - Possible ties to Max and Talon thanks to being an F1 Racer

  • King - Named after his artillery system, would make a unique weapon

  • Overlord - Drones. Lots and lots of drones. Wonder what they do.

  • D.Mon - She’s the most boring imo, but she’s popular. Has a shield and, uhh… That’s it?

I think most people like D.Mon because waifu material…I’m a straight woman, so there’s none of that appeal for me. I just want some good characters and I especially want a male character with a good backstory who looks interesting and has a good playstyle, because right now I only really play D.Va, Ashe and Mercy.

Casino, King and Overlord are really cool names, too, so there’s that XD

It’s not just the ‘shield’, or whatever. It’s also that she shares a competitive rivalry with Hana while also being close to her, and caring about her well being.

I mean, they’ve worked together on the Meka Squad for years. They’re teammates and good acquaintances, and probably know each other’s in and outs and are used to each other’s idiosyncrasies.

Having her in the game could be another way to explore Hana’s character, as her interactions with Yuna could give us more insight into who she is as an individuals.

I’m not sure why people would reduce it to being down to ‘waifu material’ when there’s other reasons why we’d like to see her in the game.

Also, lol at Yuna being ‘boring’ and people somehow thinking King and Casino and Overlord would be more ‘interesting’, when we have as much info on them as we do with her, and that is:

Next to nothing.

(And also managing to downplay and completely omit her ties to Hana in the process.)

D.Mon is not her rival, King is. D.Mon is the protective team mom.

That’s King. The tough and protective D.Mon was her teammate.

The rest of your description about them working together and knowing each other works with any of her squadmates.

We have 1 line about each, as well as a picture about what their mechs might be capable of.

  • D.Mon - Teammate. Beast - Has a shield.
  • Casino - F1 Racer. La Princess Sereine - Fast.
  • King - Rival. Singijeon - Has a Singijeon.
  • Overlord - The youngest. Mastermind - VTOL with apparent drones.

We have very little to go off of all of them. Personality wise, you can choose between the youngest, the rival, the teammate, and the F1 Racer with a hinted relation to Monaco through his history and naming. Mech wise, we’ve seen 1 thing from each of them. Beast, LPS, and arguably Singijeon all kinda blend into heroes we already have or D.Va herself. Mastermind is the most unique, and for pure gameplay desire, is the most interesting. But if you want to go for story, unless you want to explore Casino’s potential history with Monaco and Maximillien, then King and D.Mon are both tied to D.Va, and one should not be more interesting as a character than the other. Only reason I put King over D.Mon is because I think his eponymous artillery would be a cool gameplay mechanic, while D.Mon’s shield already has overlap with other shield tanks.

I think supporting characters are important for the story without concern of their actual functioning game mechanics, you know? I personally find it unlikely they will join the roster, but who knows! You make a great case and I hope for your sake at least he is put in

definitely, 'nuff said.
