Is it really prejudice when we have threads like this? I mean, you live in the center of a failing empire that for over 80 years has done anything they wanted with the rest of the world.
I live in a country that had a fascist dictatorship openly sponsored by the CIA that murdered thousands of people and tortured even more. Our neighbouring countries had even worse dictatorships, all sponsored by the USA. This meddling came with the cost of broken families, debt and poverty, all in the name of the american excelency. We were destroyed in the name of profit for your companies and the maintenance of your empire.
During the entire cold war we had our cultures erased and had some american company put in place to bombard us with propaganda saying how you live in an advanced society. Several of my fellow copatriots end up trying to follow the hollow dream America sold them, only to end up facing prejudice and hatred the minute they set foot on your lands.
If you want to celebrate the birth of your nation, do it. Don’t ask us to celebrate the birth of the oppresion of the 3rd world. To this day we have countries digging up mine fields left by the americans, and to this day we still have on-going genocides sponsored by american weaponry. To this day we still have to deal with meddling, all under the threat of being destroyed by nuclear weapons.
If you ask me, forcing us to celebrate your dominance over us is the real bigotry.
Guys, you don´t get it.
Whatever is the history - my point is: nobody cares about US holidays outside of US.
Just Europe alone has so many events and holidays in each country and that is important for us here.
Trust me. Nobody. celebrates. 4th of july. here.
Nah. I think you joined our conversation without reading, what we are talking about.
Dude thinks, that people outside of US care or celebrate that day, because “america best”.
Also, it´s global game. Doesn´t matter, where it was made, it hosts pepopel from most countries, so making event for just one of them is very weird.
Because I disagree. 18. century pretty much - Europe deep in monarchy and their own problems. Your holiday is so insignificant, that we don´t even learn about it in history class and I say that as someone, who studied history and archaeology at uni.
It wouldn’t be that strange because they would still make money and that is realistically their only goal. It is not something that the entire playerbase needs to care about. In fact, there’s no a single thing about this game that the entire playerbase cares about.
Funny enough, Solider already got skin for the party and despite me, having zero care - it´s one of my favourite for him.
You should rather push Blizzard to return archives, so your other american heroes get history skins without making it event, that can be kinda contraversal for some countries.
Yeah, shocker, that education in Europe is focused mostly on things, that actualy matered here.
the rest of the world, really. The only countries I know that laser-focus their education into some sort of sofistic ultra-nationalistic ideology where only they matter and the rest of the world doesn’t exist are North Korea and the United States.
I know, that only two periods of time US is mentioned in our history classes is 15 . - 16- century due “discovering new world” and it´s impact on certain kingdoms and than WW1 and WW2.
Nothing in between.
here we go through briefly the American Revolution, then WW1 and 2 and the cold war.
Outside of that, nothing. We have a lot to unpack on our own. Hell, the napoleonic wars had more impact on the history of South America (where I am) than some guys getting angry at the british because of taxes.
OP: The developers should do a “Holi” event. A replier then responds with “Ew, Indians.” You’re probably thinking whoever said “Ew, Indians” is a prejudiced douchebag, right? So then why would it be literally any different here?
I don’t even know how I’m supposed to respond to this. Here’s what I’ll say: there are so many horrible things out there that certain people and cultures have done, and yet even with those horrible acts, I’m still going to encourage those same people to push for their celebrations that they hold dear to themselves in what is supposedly an “inclusive” game.
How can you write a bigoted statement like that and then try to turn around and call out bigotry? That’s quite the contradiction, and honestly, it just makes you a bit foolish.
That’s enough forums for me today; the brain rot is getting to me.
How calling out your country (not even you, YOUR COUNTRY, you can disagree with it, even fight against it. Many americans do. Many do choose to think outside this enclosed box and see the bad US has done to the world) on atrocities they did and are STILL doing bigotry?
Let’s put it differently: Would Ukranians be happy if they were forced to celebrate a Russian holyday? Would it be considered bigotry for them to bash out the Russian Federation and consider them an oppressor?
Listen: I don’t want americans to be gone, dead or to suffer. I want you to understand. Please, understand that many of the conquests of your country were made with the blood and suffering of people somewhere else. Understand that the power to stop this used to be in your hands, not ours. We didn’t had a say in the matter. And understand that the power to stop the ongoing abuses of your government also lies in your hands.
