They say they don't like hard counters

But almost every tank has a hard counter.

Winston- Reaper, Brig, roadhog, doomfist

Hammond- Sombra, Mei, Roadhog, reaper, brig

D.Va- Sombra, Mei, Zarya, Sym, reaper

Rein- Brig, reaper, sombra, Doomfist

Orisa- Literally any high mobility/high damage character

zarya- She is the only one without very hard counters.

If they don’t like counters then why is the smallest role the most necessary for swaps? Why are there so many situations as a tank main where you say “I can’t play this hero now because they have a reaper.”

It’s dumb. I honestly don’t understand why tanks need counters so badly. Ya, I know you’re gonna bring up GOATS, but that is mostly because of the state of brig. That wouldn’t happen if certain heroes were viable in more situations. Rein zarya is meta because of what’s being run. With the current heroes if you play winston people can easily counter you if they actually try. Instead of adding counters, how about you add more tanks that give you options so that it isn’t a mirror match?

My point is the way this game is balanced is stupid. I’m tired of having to swap off of the heroes I have so many hours in because a person decided to play a counter. No other role has this many. It’s not needed. As a tank main in comp you are practically required to learn every tank, otherwise you won’t do well. especially since tanks are very meta determined heroes.

But that’s a huge part of the game. you may hate that aspect but I hate how people will somehow think swapping to Winston is a good choice when the enemy team has a Reaper+Bastion (or even one of these)

I would literally take any other hero except him to face those guys.

I’m just saying that overall it’s anoying how it’s required. As winston there is no counterplay against most of what’s being run. I want more options personally because even f you swap it doesn’t always change what’s killing you. some things have the same counters to them.

lol sym only counters dva and orisa a bit.
sym received so many counters after the " successful rework " ;-;

I don’t ever see her, but I figured she is a beam, so why not. She isn’t an issue tho

What? The only tanks with hard counters are winston - countered by bastion, and zarya - countered by snipers.

The rest of your counters list is a joke. D.Va literally counters every one you listed as a counter to her.

How do you figure she counters Mei, sombra, or Zarya?

Ok, maybe eating grav, but as Sombra I practically own D.Va, and mei just freezes you bcuz u can’t DM anything. have you ever played D.Va?

This post will age badly since it’s outdated starting tomorrow

Dva eats grav and blizzard, and she’s the best hero to poke Sombra to interrupt hack and invisibility.

The real hard counters are Brig to Tracer/Genji, or Sombra to anyone with abilities. Most of the things you mentioned are hard counters, but not hard to the point of switching. I mean how many times do you see a Dva swap because the enemy has a Zarya? Very rarely. Instead the Dva will just avoid her and boost away. Winston will just jump away and take a different path or change his playstyle with his team to counter his counters.

It’s very hard to eat both grav and blizzard. Not even pros do it very often. You feed so much ult charge to Zarya to the point where it isn’t worth playing D.Va over a counter zarya.

If you are feeding zarya then you’re playing dva wrong. She has all the mobility she needs to stay out of zarya’s range.

You act like she always has boosters. They’re on CD, and there is a thing called a team fight where everyone is on point. Even if you boost away, unless there is high ground her beam will melt u down if you’re at 50% HP or below.

Only a bad Mei throws out Blizzard with D.Va around. All you have to do is Freeze her and toss you’re Ult. The bonus is the Ults freeze will catch D.Va before she can run which effectively keeps her in a super long cc chain (also useful for Ulting Winstons)

D.Va is my frozen chew toy and I will make it my sol purpose to make her useless (like I would a Hog but Hog at least might be able to kill me )

Allow me to explain,

Soft counter: Hero X has an advantage over hero Y, however there is a good amount of room for outplay and hero Y is still able to provide value to their team just with more difficulty due to the presence of hero X.

Hard Counter: Hero X has a distinct advantage over hero Y, however there is still a little room for outplay and hero Y is still able to provide some form of value to their team or find windows of significance just with a great deal of difficulty due to the presence of hero X.

Overwatch lately hardcounter: Hero X stops hero Y, hero Y is unable to provide little to no value for their team due to hero X presence, if hero X is picked hero Y MUST swap.

The key is whether a hero is able to provide value to their team, a widow can still flank around shields to get picks, a pharah can still use site lines and travers a map to jump widow, a Winston can still shield dance a reaper or can find picks on other enemies split when running against a bastion. Yes some of these cases are less ideal but can still work provided the play is smart enough.

We don’t like that last one, that’s a terrible way to design because ultimately the game goes from interesting strats and outplay to players literally camping in spawn staring at the enemy hero picks to swap and counter until each team level out with a comp that doesn’t hard counter the other or just mirror, or how the vast majority actually experience it, the game is decided at the hero select screen because a stranger’s unwillingness to swap with the exception if the two teams have a very large difference in skill in which case the match never should have taken place and was never going to be a contest to begin with.
