The SVB interview just ended and during the interview, Megan from the Overwatch team stated in chat that popular topics that are being discussed on social platforms such as Twitter, Youtube, Reddit, and Twitch are taken in every week and shown to the team-leaders.
I asked for clarification on whether or not the forums are included in those discussions and to my surprise, she said that they are in fact also included.
They might read the forums, but I fear that they only take the social media seriously because I have a feeling they care more about what’s creating the buzz.
As valuable as the forums might actually be, nothing beats a YouTuber or a streamer speaking loudly in front of a camera, in terms of impact.
That is what I would prefer they do rather than read everything/read nothing. A lot of good stuff on here that is as thought provoking as some of the stuff you see creators push out, imo.
True, but I feel like if a lot of the forum posts are talking about the same thing, that it would have the same if not greater impact.
So they show whats the hot forum topic each week, wel unfortunately that would b all the super threads of ppl screaming at each other about pronouns and gay characters
It was by no means a popular topic on the forums before streamers such as Samito shed light on it.
People on the forums were complaining about different aspects of the game before the 6v6 debate, but once Samito said “6v6 is the solution”, then this became a popular demand, and now you find the developers talking about trying 6v6 before even giving 5v5 a fair try in terms of balance and reworks.
The devs willing to test 6v6 is a clear example of them trying to appease the masses instead of actually finding real solutions to the game’s problems.
I think even just skimming is fine because just reading the topic names shows the trends/problems that are popular atm within the forum community.
Even just letting that little thought-worm burrow into their heads can lead to more attention on topics that aren’t discussed as widely on other platforms.
Not publicly, but maybe internally.
I agree partially. It is their job to keep the masses happy, so I can see where this thought comes from, but I don’t think them doing that is necessarily a bad thing.
The problems that occur in Overwatch are just things that reduce the amount of fun players have, so to that end, I believe they’ve been doing a better job at looking for processes that are frustrating to deal with.
You have to admit that they have been far more accepting of community feedback than they were before.
I think anyone who genuinely thinks they literally ignored their own forums is delusional. A much more rational realization is that they just weigh it as one of many sources of feedback and are aware that there will be a certain level of bias, and are probably also aware that there is limited value in actively discussing topics because its too easy to spiral out of control.
That it had to be clarified that the “Official Forums” were included in a list of media sites not actually affiliated with Acti-Blizzard should tell all of you, that indeed, the DEVs do not care about these forums.
They never had.
They never will.
When was the last “Official” Blizzard blue mark posted in here that wasn’t Aaron’s PR rep repo-posting something posted anywhere else, except here.
You are cash cows.
They pull the meat grinder lever.
Never knowing who you are except you make them money.
