These team mates are so bad

Comp is just luck to see if your tea mates are brain dead or not. I’ve been on overwatch since 2016 these new people should be no where near my rank.

Because they never did a full MMR reset you have old OW1 Bronze - Plat players mixed with all the new players.

At the end of OW1 Bronze was not all bad players. The player base was small, so they had nowhere to rank up.

They also majorly screwed up placements in Season 1. Now all old accounts are stuck grinding out of the B5 bug. Players that didn’t stick around when it happened and came back are now littering the ladder to get to their true rank.

Add the insanely stupid MMR know best about your rank Matchmaker and you have players that should be Gold or higher stuck in Bronze/Silver after OW2 was released.

It’s been proven that accounts with hours of playtime will not rank up vs a brand new 25-hour account going straight to Diamond.

That would have been awful if they did.

Imagine all these people who moan about smurfs… Imagine every game being that for months while it all settles. Fun…

I agree just a blanket reset would suck. They should have restarted ranked and made placements like 30 games before showing your rank.

Then then needed to remove all the MMR knows your true rank algorithm and let players fall/rank backed on those 30 games.

They are doing a small soft MMR “reset” for next season. I wouldn’t expect a world of difference. If you are diamond, your new placements (yes, placements are back…) will probably start in high gold low plat.

I disagree.

OW2 doesn’t play like OW1 and have a lot of new players.
For a new game, it would have make sense to reset MMR.
The MMR moved so much for some people (especially for people who didn’t adapt immediately to OW2 gameplay) and now you have glass ceiling around gold just because to prevent smurfing, they put new players with Silver grinding to desperately climb or salty losing Plat.

MMR reset would turn the first games into clownfest but it’d fix new players MMR faster.

But its not only the MMR reset, MMR needs a whole change. For months devs talked about it and now we’re back at deafening silence. But imo, its a better idea to make any new player start in Bronze and increase the MMR faster if they get winstreaks.

Afaik, MMR is based on winrate, sothere’s also that doom for long time players ; its barely possible to climb to certain point without any change in the Matchmaking formula : when you play your 1001th game, MMR would barely move, no matter the outcome of your game. You need to either reach beyond 60-70% of winrate to climb. With matchmaking farts and potentially new players put there cause they played only 10 ranked games, good luck on that.
It makes the game unbearably grindy just to climb one tier.

Setting the MMR variation on MMRs of opponents would be a step to move smurfs faster and higher, you know like SC2 or Street fighter. But based on what devs told, its not the case for OW. Beating a Plat team won’t put you out of gold but farming low gold/silver teams could…

OW2 devs tell they find it more interesting to put you with worse and better players than you in one same team but tbh, I’m not convinced its a good way to set up matchmaking since its a role based game and there’s only one tank so one role is either better than you could keep up with or worse and lead to frustating game.

All that would happen is there would be a period of chaos that would upset far more people that it pleases, and then everyone would settle around the same sorts of places they were before.

Whilst it looks like an attractive click-baity type headline thing to do… It wouldn’t actually add any value, and may end up costing the game.

I’d admit they should have done a reset. Now the game has been running for too long to tell people they gonna reset without setting the community on fire.

But they could still fix things up imo, like changing the MMR formula or working on matchmaking to avoid stupid situations like meeting someone who still hasn’t learned Hanzo will oneshot them when they peek.

Those kind of games eventually poison everyone MMR in the end either you helplessly lose or freely win but it could affect your MMR and create glass ceilings for no reason.

I assume it may vary with people rank, but being around gold, its not unusual to meet total newcomers who “try a hero for the first time in ranked” or ask “how can I counter Bastion” when they not shooting Zarya bubbles…in Gold yeah.

Don’t u love it that it’s free now?! :joy::roll_eyes::wink:

They had a “reset” when the game launched in 2016. Since then it has never needed, people just wanted it for various mostly well intentioned reasons,.

Yes. Best move the game has made. From a business and player perspective.

Yeah they resetted for launch. OW2 is a different game and there are problems with matchmaking but I guess I’ve no reason to comlpain or even hope they’d fix it.

I assume the helpless lose and free wins are an expected part of a game sold as competitive.

You can complain. Everyone is allowed to do that.

But MMR and match making aren’t going to change. It is a fairly pointless endeavour to blame them for any issues you are having for both that reason, and it most likely isn’t the cause of the problem. They are just the buzz things to blame.

I don’t get this complaints at all… so maybe having not experienced it I am biased. But I’ve just played games tonight, and all have felt fine. One was a bit one sided. But that was because we played a rubbish comp and didn’t adjust to what they were doing.

But you can’t blame the game for that, that is on me and my team individually to adjust faster to the situation.

We’re probably not on the same rank.

But I can tell with my experience going from bronze to gold in first seasons, that I’ve met gold players playing worse than Silvers. And not like they don’t know how to aim/adapt kind of bad, but more lik :, running 3 timse in a row before a hanzo without any cover kind of bad and ofc blaming supports cause they have low numbers as they keep being heashot.

I’ve been gold for 2 or 3 seasons. Season 8 is about to end, I’m at silver 5, something like 35% winrate.

So I have completely melt my brain and forgot everything about the game I shouldn’t be allowed to touch any video game ever, despite the fact I play every week, the same hero since OW2 release.
Either there’s some explanation on why I have games where I have most kills, most heals, least deaths in my team, and still losing. I guess I deserve them ?

Like 2 days ago, I had more healing than the sum of opposing supports, my DPS were tied to the opposing team, Same for Tank. Then suddenly, Sombra sees she’s alone, she casts ultimate, dies, Dva who just rejoined from the spawn runs into enemy team to take advantage of EMP, dies. We lose the game. That means I’m being matched with at least 2 players who think they have to rush 1v5… One year after game release, and they’re not bronze players…

Like, how would you explain this without thinking matchmaking acts weird or is actually unfair ?
At end of season 7, I could win games with average plat rank being Gold 1. And it doesn’t matter cause for some reason, I’m back to bronze and the only thing I’d blame, would be … me ? Like, my brain melted in few weeks ?

And the worse is, as MMR is based only on winrate, since I’ve now something like 35% winrate, jsut to get back to gold 5, I have to play either 200 games or winth 30 games in a row with being matched with either true bronze players or newcomers going down from gold.

I know they won’t MMR reset but I can tell, if MMR/matchmaking doesn’t change anything in S9, it’ll be my last season. I’m tired to being matched with people that manage to die up to 2 times in just one minute and have to pray to get steamrolling victories which don’t feel good at all as its just about sitting on the point while my mates do the killing.

And afaik, Season 9 gonna change nothing except visual progression of SR.

I play in most ranks tbf, gold support, plat dps, diamond tank, masters open queue.

I was sub 500 sr back when I started. I have climbed through most ranks. I’ve seen what they all do. I can tell you now, only you stops you from climbing.

This is rough, I feel it. People in diamond and masters still do weird things like this. Had one earlier where the enemy Sojourn popped ult… We all played round a corner except the Hanzo… who stood in the open and lost his head. Apparently that was all of our fault not his lol.

Nah, Silver 5 to gold 5 shouldn’t take you more than about 40 games. If you are a gold/plat player, you should be able to adjust to the team around you have clutch at the right moments.

This 100%. It is just a cosmetic change. The underlying system aren’t changing. Other than a soft reset of ranks and having to play 10 placements… It is nothing more than putting a new coat on things. A placebo. Defintely looks better though.

Tbh I’m not sure if it comforts me or terrifies me XD
Either ranked system is so messed up to allow people doing such weird things being in high ranks ; either the difference between ranks is thiner than it seems.

LAtely I feel most of my games are out of my reach tbh.
Even with 40 games, like 20 min a game, it would take more than 10 hours with my time management, 5 weeks just to get back to a level where I feel I’ve things to learn…

A company only change a paid game to free if they are desperate…

If u have a good game, people pay money and most important people will stay.

Look at FF14… ESO…etc… all games with subs… millions of players , more then Ow2 will ever see…

They all earn money and will be more succesfull the ow ever will be…

Making something free isn’t always a good step… and we can see this at ow haha… The playerbase keeps going down…

And they were. OW1 was dying.

Which isn’t true. The player base is up since launch.

I get it. You don’t like it. Nothing wrong with that.

If u coint new accounts (as in smurfs) then yeah the numbers are def rising…

if u count New accounts by actual new players… Not so much…

New accounts aren’t smurfs, smurfing is a specific issue that requires manipulative actions by a player.

You creating a new account and just playing isn’t smurfing.

And, the player numbers have always counted all accounts, since day 1. So yeah, they are up.
