My impression from among reasonable posters here is that match making is broken because they want to shorten the queues – I get really fast games, but the skill-level is all over the place.
The developers said they’re going to fix it in the next patch, but I expect to see long queues when they DO actually fix it. Well, no choice but to wait.
At most ranks, people overestimate the impact that being in a group has. A metal rank group of friends is not doing advanced shotcalling and coordination. They’re just playing the same as always. Whereas in top 500, a 5 man is probably an OWL team.
Bruh. Bruh. You got me in them feelz. But seriously, I concur. I’ve been tempted to uninstall. I finally decided I would try to unlock Sojourn. Been trying to get my 35 wins on DPS characters. Been playing Hanzo because I enjoy the novelty of projectile. Lose 20 freaking games in a row. Granted quick play is full of cheaters these days, aimbot is like at least once a match or every other match. Sometimes you run up on the other crap too. But I thought, still that’s day in day out, am I that freaking bad at Hanzo? I’ve got 40% weapon accuracy and 9% critical hits. Went and looked up the stats of the top 100 players on a website. Dude at number 1 for Hanzo was 38% weapon accuracy and like 10 or 11% crit? Now granted I’m playing in quick play and he’s playing against competitive/pro/diamond whatever. BUT JEEZ, I’m comparing my quick play stats to my success in quick play. It’s awful. 40 and 9 can’t be that bad on Hanzo especially since my primary focus is always heal supports and then the big easy targets like tanks if I can’t get LoS on support. I shouldn’t be dropping that many consecutive matches by being that terrible on Hanzo.
Something is FREAKING WRONG with quickplay match making, unless it’s just the fact that so many people are cheating lately that it’s completely destroying the metrics.
I saw a masters alt account in silver quick play today. Yeah not great tbh. If only comp wasn’t trash I probably wouldn’t mind quick play being bad but they’re both awful.
This is why I can only play with friends… getting steam rolled by yourself sucks, it’s like preparing a meal and then right as you’re going in for the first bite someone scoops it up and throws it in the trash.
When I’m playing with friends and we get steam rolled, it’s legit nothing more than “gg next”, we’re still all laughing and having fun. Obviously, if were all grouped but lose like 5 games in a row, that is typically the point where people start dropping out of the group, but as team, that is rare. But when you’re playing alone? I find it’s much more common.
So the reason this to me is a bigger issue is we have more tools to see if someone is too 500. Even OW1 I’d play against gm in quickplay at least. But I’d only check if I was getting my butt handed to me. I with it being a title it’s far more obvious when it occurs. Obviously they admitted matchmaking is working different now and they’re working on it. But some of this is having easier access to a this knowledge.
This. This is incredibly annoying and it really discourages family and friends to play with me because for whatever reason (I am plat at best) I get placed against players 4 or 5 ranks higher than I am. It isn’t fun for me, solo queue qp is a nightmare, and it especially isn’t fun for my sister who just installed the game to try it out and play with me. I hope this gets changed soon because I really don’t have any incentive to grind the game if matchmaking feels so rough.
SOMEWHAT this. But it seems it’s when I play with multiple people.
Maybe i’m biased cause I just played the worst string of QP matches prob ever but this will happen more when i’m with multiple people.
Them being good/better is fine. But there’s being good/better and then there’s tryharding over more XP than me.
One of those games, 1 player on the enemy team was low gold for 2 or 3 seasons and then masters for the next 2, like??? 1500SR increase in 1 season. Not one of those, didn’t play comp much so they were just gold either, they had quite some time on being gold.
I’m plat. I’ve been plat for years. I routinely get matched up against GMs and occasionally top 500s. These players are very good and there’s absolutely no way that we are at the same skill level. I’m assuming that my teams also have GMs to counteract that, but that just means that anyone but those GMs is having a miserable experience.
Blizzard says its due to people grouping up and they’re looking to address it. I’m very much hoping their solution works because this is a very frustrating experience.
I also hope they shrink the window of matchmaking so that you very rarely see players more than a tier higher or below you.
