You nailed it. I can completely outplay a Rein who has superior heals and still get bodied because Moira popped Coal or Ana nanod him. Using a Trance for one duel is poor resource management, and Mercy has nothing to compete with that, so they can be reckless and just walk over our tank line while bathing in orbs and/or bionades.

A collective 55% damage increase on the main tank between mercy and Zen damage amps really should make that focus fire easy. Again, kill first and the healing is not an issue.
Complete nonsense. Obviously if everyone is dying over and over, then it’s a problem. If the enemy team is running a comp with heavy heals/spam damage and you can’t break it, then one of several possible answers would be to switch and give the team more sustain.

you cant sustain a rein zar with poke comp heals like that
there very much is a thing as not enough heals just not for dps
you can run zen lucio or zen brig or zen mercy
your team just has to be on the same page
and know you are limiting your options for tanks severly depending on if you have burst heals or not

Not really a handicap when the enemy team has either heavy spam damage or Rein pocketed by actual strong heals and can just run over your Rein with ease. Lucio/Mercy is probably my absolute least favorite healer comp in the game to have (partially because so many people run it on ladder) because the whole point of Lucio is to go aggressive yet every bit of damage to your team is significant when you have to rely on Mercy’s single target healing to keep every single person up while trying to be aggressive. If I get Mercy/Lucio, I’m not going Rein cause of two points. One, I will not have fun playing Rein and not being able to drop my shield for fear of taking too much damage and not being able to have it replenished fast enough. And two, the comp is extremely bad and you would be better served playing self sufficient tanks than trying to force a comp to work when it doesn’t.

There is no such thing as “enough heals”. Ask genji.
Zen Mercy can absolutely work, but you need the tank lineup for it. Brawl will not work, and it’s not the DPS’s fault. This is a spam/dive Support line.

It all depends on your composition.
Each composition requires different things.
-
Brawl for example is a very slow composition that relies on attacking slowly yet surely.
This comp requires ton of heals considering they fight face to face, starting with the tanks and dps. Zen+Mercy is a terrible healing for this composition considering your team is built to get hit a lot in exchange for longer fights. -
Poke on the other hand, fights from range where you don’t risk anything and can take your time with heals. This composition requires very little healing and so Zen-Mercy can work amazingly with stuff like widow or Torb. But what it can use is extra damage to help with the pressure, so Zen’s extra damage or Mercy’s burst increaser all work really well.

Lastly dive, this composition works around speed. It doesn’t need a lot of heal as the composition works a lot around on avoiding with fragile bodies but it does need a lot of utility in order to achieve its goal quicker.
Sure, in theory you can run every support with every composition but it’s like fighting Reaper with Pharah… In theory you can win but it would be very hard to do and require you too much resources that you can use for different target.
So overall, while it is possible, it’s not recommended especially not in the ladder where people don’t even understand positioning and synergies well enough.

Bruh, these exact same tank players that make posts like this sit there, feed to solve world hunger and blame their dps when they play Rein-Zarya into Mercy Lucio/Zen and then cry that tank is unfun to play.
If you have Zen/Mercy then YOU as a TANK shouldn’t expect any help from your supports, irregardless of what your DPS do or don’t do that game.

Yeah but the tanks can blame you when they get zero resources and die within seconds. Giving them the options to play dva ball or Winston. Just dont expect rein zarya.

Rein can’t stay alive or brawl with a mercy. He needs ana bap Moira to brawl. So no you can’t use mercy.
Mercy is a healer that pockets a dps and is some extra heals. To be paired with bap Moira or ana.
