Theory about Moira

What if Moira used to work for Omnica corp. before working for overwatch. It’d be fitting due to the fact that she’s the type of person to give the omnics the ability to think freely without worrying about the consequences.

Moira is a geneticist, not an AI programmer. It was Dr. Mina Liao that was responsible for the omnics.

Technically we don’t know what Moira was practiced in. She managed to build a lot of her equipment both in her lab and on her body.

Except that’s not true at all. There’s no indication that she built her lab equipment, and we’re specifically told that a) Moira is a geneticist, and b) that Dr. Liao was responsible for creating the omnics’ AI.

Occupation: Geneticist

scientist Moira O’Deorain is on the cutting edge of genetic engineering

Over a decade ago, O’Deorain made waves when she published a controversial paper detailing a methodology for creating custom genetic programs that could alter DNA at a cellular level

Building the Omnics AI is not a one person job.

The proof is in the fact that it took Liao many years to build echo and program her. This means that multiple people had to work in the omnics for them to be able to be produced how fast they were.

also we don’t know that she didn’t build the equipment so we can just say it’s possible and isn’t canon until someone at blizzard confirms or denies it.

Occupation doesn’t mean that she isn’t able to do something.

Engineering could be a hobby that she started learned at a young age and worked in the skill.

I could imagine her being really interested in science and engineering which lead to her career and primary study.

Also can we just finish and say that it’s possible but less likely. I really don’t feel want to have to respond again and again.

But prior to joining the organization, Dr. Liao was widely considered one of the preeminent experts in the fields of robotics and artificial intelligence, and an employee of Omnica Corporation. There she worked on the team that was responsible for the design and creation of the omnics that would ultimately wage war against humanity during the Omnic Crisis. Ultimately, it was this expertise that led her to be recruited into Overwatch to help stop her creations.

Dr. Liao was part of a team.

Genetics and AI Programming are vastly different areas of study.
(Also, it’s almost impossible for Moira to have been on the team that created the omnics, considering she’s 48 and the omnics were created over 30 years ago.)

But its not. Omnica would have shut down while Moira was still a kid.

Mercy is younger than Moira and was part of the early overwatch.

This is because of the healing from her healing beam. Her healing beam keeps her alive as much as possible which would keep her from aging.

Moira could have a similar scenario.

Omnica shut down before the Omnic Crisis.

The Omnic Crisis started 30 years ago.

Moira is 48.

Your suggestion that Moira was part of Omnica is quite literally impossible. She was not inventing Omnics when she was 10. This is also all ignoring the fact that she is a geneticist, not an AI revolutionary.

Moira was also not part of early Overwatch. The earliest Moira was in Overwatch was after Overwatch shutdown her research “a decade ago”. Mercy has been part of Overwatch for ~15 years, give or take a couple years, according to Valkyrie.

I have no idea what you are trying to say here, but we were told that Mercy’s biotic tech doesn’t change aging.

It’s actually highly likely that Mercy’s tech does. Mercy would have been 7 when the omnic crisis broke out and Overwatch wasn’t created to long after that. This means that Overwatch was created more than a decade after the omnic crisis for her to be able to invent her nano tech or Mercy wasn’t de aging backwards but had slower healing.

Mercy wasn’t a member of Overwatch until she was about 25. She was not a member at 17, she wasn’t even a doctor at 17, still a student.

Mercy does not keep young from her healing. That myth has been debunked countless times by the devs.

Mercy is 37, was born 37 years ago, and (imo) looks like she’s 37.

Mercy was not a founding member, so it doesn’t matter how old she was when the omnic crisis started. She also didn’t invent her nano technology while working for Overwatch - she invented it while working as a doctor in Switzerland, then was recruited to Overwatch because of it.

She was recruited early Overwatch which means that she couldn’t have been much older. I don’t expect Overwatch was created way after otherwise tons of people would have died before someone decided to stop it.

We know that Overwatch was established 30 years before recall. So if Mercy was 7-ish then she would have to wait more than ten years to join Overwatch. It would make sense if she had decreased aging (not stopped) so she could have been part of uprising.

Her healing beam is meant to keep people at the healthiest they can be. Since we are all going to die one day, it makes sense for her to slow down the process.

Yes, Overwatch was founded about 30 years ago, during the crisis. Mercy was recruited about 15 years ago, long after the crisis had ended. Uprising (the mission) was 7 years ago, so she had already been a member for a while .

There is no reason to think Mercy has stopped aging.

What’s your source? How do you know specifically 7 years?

A year after the Venice Incident, the omnic separatist group Null Sector took control of King’s Row, holding the Shambali monk Tekhartha Mondatta, the mayor of London, and a hundred other hostages captive. In response, Overwatch sent a strike team comprised of Mercy, Reinhardt, and Torbjörn to London, aided by the idealistic former test pilot Tracer on her first mission as a cadet. Together, they quelled Null Sector’s uprising and saved the hostages from the belly of the King’s Row power plant, and the mission’s events were quietly tucked away into Overwatch’s archives.

The Venice Incident (aka Retribution) was 8 years ago.

That makes a bit more sense. I guess I didn’t do a very good job but I was trying to say never say never. Lore can be adapted and sometimes misleading so we just need blizzard to tell us what’s true or false.

The thing is, never say never works within reason. You can say we have no idea about what Moira’s hobbies are, if she has any interest in bioengineering or gunsmithing or development of necrotic munitions, etc. But we do know that she was not part of Omnica as a child. She had absolutely nothing to do with the development of the Omnics, nor the Omnic Crisis.

At best, she might have been drafted because she was 18 when it started. Or maybe she just went to school and was able to dodge a draft. If there even was a draft.

Moira is 48 old.

She was a child, when Omnica Corporation was closed due to uncovered evidences of corporate fraud. Case closed.
