The unwritten rules of Overwatch

When playing comp it’s 2/2/2 or we riot. Unless the meta comp is triple something or other.

or soldier, he also has a “sit down!” voiceline

If another Lucio boops you out of the map and kill you, you lost the showdown and now you gotta switch. There can be only 1

Rule №1:
IT’S YOUR FAULT
Rule №2:
Amount of golden medals Moira has is a good indicator of how horrible her team performs.

If you’re playing king of the hill there will ALWAYS be someone who doesn’t pick their character until after the match has already started or will wait until they’re timed out leaving you 5v6. This rule does not apply for the enemy team

How to bake the typical rage kid

  1. If we win, I carried.
  2. If we lost, I still carried, but the rest of the team just sucked.
  3. If you doubt I carried, you suck, because you don’t understand my blatant genius.
  4. If you think I carried, you may continue to praise me for hours.

if you pick widow, you are automatically the one to blame for the lose.

If someone’s spamming crouch at you on the red team, it means they want to be friends.

How I hate that, whatever happens, it’s always my widow that’s the cause…

I think what makes this pseudo-acceptable is that the BM is directed at the entire enemy team and not towards any particular player. Having said that, I don’t do that anymore… so much toxicity in the game already and I wouldn’t want to upset someone just for the sake of a POTG. On rare occasion I’ll throw in an emote but that’s it.

As for unwritten rules / conduct:

I think it’s a given that if the team comp is really really off and the team SR’s are widely spread that the much lower ranked DPS players will fill on easy tank/heal roles, not the much higher ranked DPS carries. For ex., 2 Hanzo mains: It’s just silly to run a 3000 SR Hanzo + 3500 SR Mercy when you could run 3500 SR Hanzo + 3000 SR Mercy.

There’s actually quite a few unwritten rules to coordinating effectively with teammates and playing at a high level… things like “if team has to push forward to catch staggers, slow solo healer stays on cart” and “in overtime it is the tanks job to make sure they die on point, and die first”. Actually, quite often someone being ignorant or forgetting these unspoken rules results in lost objective time or a C9 match loss.

Don’t want to spend forever on this post, but some misc. examples:

  • ana nanos blade after pulled (& certain other dps ults)
  • rein does not drop shield suddenly
  • not mei walling off enemies if your DPS could be shooting them
  • there are 2 healers on a team because the healers are expected to heal each other when they get focused
  • zarya/hanzo: hanzo sonics for zarya without being asked, zarya ults and hanzo always ults even if hanzo can’t see enemies (trusts that it’s a good grav)
  • 6v6 elims had a lot of unspoken hero pick rules due to hero synergy dominating that mode: things like rein+zarya, hog+orisa, etc.
  • zarya saves bubble for monkey leap/rein charge
  • winston & dva dive together–in some contexts one or the other will be expected to be the initiator
  • or even things at a very basic level: like peel for your teammates, focus fire on one (low target)

If you spray a spray in spawn and someone else sprays over it, you are now mortal enemies and must either cover it again or shoot/jab in their direction

ANY change is OP…

even after it’s been proven to not be so…blizzard always overdid it

This is of course mandatory to spam all, over forums

  • If you see that the Reaper has Death Blossom ready, you are not to nano boost anybody else.
  • Never harass the Reaper on your team for any reason, they’re trying their hardest with one of the crappiest characters out there.
  • Always pocket the Reaper.
  • If the enemy has a Widowmaker that’s proving a problem for your team’s Reaper, run a genji/winston and dive them the entire time. He will thank you later.
  • Understand Reaper is your savior.
  • Do everything for Reaper.
  • Worship Reaper.

There is only one unwritten rule (actually it’s written in the rules of internet):
Thou shall not teabag, unless the ownage was absolutely unquestionable.

I used to spend a great deal of time playing Mercy in no limits for bizarre comps.
A lot of people raged at me for not choosing the same hero as them, but they were easy wins haha
