I can concede i have softer skin than most, I’m not very stoic or confident.
That being said, every game i’ve played for the past month or month-and-a-half I’ve been constantly BM’d and flamed by my own teammates and sometimes the enemy team. Constantly having people throw matches on my team and then ego me the following game.
It’s gotten to be too much and after all my years of playing I’m genuinely considering putting the game down for good now.
Communication is dead on this game, might as well turn off all your chats and voice. You won’t be missing anything. They’ll still have a meltdown, but you can’t help that the game went F2P and you end up with literal children and angsty teens playing. Though I also know there are plenty of adults that behave this way…
I had a guy meltdown yesterday after I said “gg” for an honestly close and good game.
This is a game where people are encouraged to blame each other, rather than the faults of the game, letting Blizzard off the hook.
In the core of the game, one player is allowed to ruin the game for everyone else and there is no consequence that matters, other than in the fictional mind.
So this game has been toxic since it dropped, for 10 years now.
I finally gave this a dedicated playthrough this past year. It had a profound impact on me. I got heavily invested in the story and my character. Just like a book, I can’t replay a game for story - so now I’m left feeling empty…
(Still on sale for 70% off if people are debating on picking it up, historically lowest price on steam)
nah, dont talk like that about yourself, you are right to complain about toxicity, we should want less of it regardless of how ¨stoic¨ people is, unacceptable attitude is just that.
id say mute the chat if want to, in my experience its mostly not required to improve nor rank up
Game gutted me a few times through the story and side quests. Probably has the best redemption arc of any game made imo. Came out unfinished, glitchy, buggy, now it’s one of the best games ever made.
It became a standard for me that once a game goes bad, either for enemy team or my own team. That people start duking it out on each other. I guess people don’t get punished harshly enough.
I still go through my screenshots just for the nostalgia of the experience. I don’t do that with any other game.
Keeping to the thread: Consensus is to disable chat. I also find having even 1-2 people you know/play with semi-regularly can really change your experience on this game. I have way more fun, personally, when I play with my wife(phrasing).
I’ve made quite a few posts about this, and as I’ve always said, a partial solution would be the “Prime” system used in R6 and CS2. While this system doesn’t completely eliminate toxicity, it does help reduce it. I’d at least like ranked modes in the game to require a paid access system. It wouldn’t completely eliminate smurfing or toxicity, but it would significantly reduce both. It would encourage people to play ranked matches more respectfully and fairly.
Don’t get me wrong, experience you have is awfull. But it clearly frustrates you, frustrated people tend to play badly, so your teammates flame you for it and you frustrate even more.
It’s a vicious cycle, that you need to break.
So my advice: Take a break from OW. Just go play something else for few days. Tehn come back with fresh energy and clear mind (-;
possibly, but the lower skill people is allergic to accountability and love blaming others, so the more casual the game becomes the worse is going to get
the thing here is i try this, I try taking days, weeks, and even months away, but it never changes.
It has never gotten easier coming back and it sucks because i genuinely love this game, but I am coming to grips that maybe online competitive spaces aren’t for me.
