Man One tricks don’t work
explains why unlike alot of flex players who are blaming one tricks for their loss, I actually climbed from bronze to my high of 3639 masters.
Sitting around 3400 usually since I’ve hit mu current ceiling on rat and only way to increase it is to focus on myself, and keep playing rat to improve on him.
You can NOT get reported for being a off meta 1 trick. The report system even SAYS this.
You CAN get reported–and punished-- for harassing a 1 trick who is actually trying to win.
This game doesn’t revolve around YOU. Nor your selfish egos.
Play the game.
You have to put the blame on the Devs for not making every hero good at the very start. If heroes weren’t made to be “situational” then one-tricks would not be an issue.
Wait huh?
Dedicating your time to one hero means that’s your most favorite. However it’s up to the player to switch if things are going south. The game is meant for switching to a certain extent, but if you’re not good on some heroes then it’s up to someone on your team who is. Nevertheless look at OWL and how much switching did they do just to revert to their best one trick hero?
You can get away with onetricking in a 6-stack. There are flex players in OWL, too.
OWL is very much rock-paper-scissors, though. The last time I watched some of it (forgot which teams) they had an amazing Widow player (Fleta maybe? idk) and they got rolled because he didn’t switch and got countered.
I like playing Zarya. Can she use McCree’s gun, or DVA’s DM, no. So that’s why there’s no way to encourage anyone who one tricks, to play someone else. Unless you want to be draconian with your methods, in all game modes. Overwatch isn’t Uncharted. Where I can like playing as Sully, but I can use all the guns and bombs.
They got steamrolled alright, but that goes to show their team potential as whole was limited. You can swap, but if you can’t recuperate and turn the tide then all was for naught.
As long they’re not Torbjorn and Symmetra one tricks then it’s fine. That’s pretty much how it is.
That makes no sense. All one tricking has to be banned and blocked. REGARDLESS of character and win rates. You are not fair any other way. You block all, or you block none.
I hear ya, but that’s the truth. Torbjorn and Symmetra are the unforgivable one tricks in this game among other one tricks heroes. Even as bad a Ana one trick is she’s more acceptable than Torb and Symmetra.
Well, it doens’t matter. If you want one tricks gone. Than someone has to setup explicit rules. How much time the person has played on characters. So that you know when you become a one trick. Your rank doesn’t exempt you. Your following on things such as twitch doesn’t exempt you. You being in the OWL doesn’t exempt you.
You cross X Y Z line. You are now banned from playing ALL MODES. You can not cherry pick comp only. You are not fair any other way. If you have rules that differ from the modes. I want balance changes per SR rank.
If you specifically want to eliminate one tricks then to counter that is creating a ban system for competitive play. This game have enough heroes to at least ban 2 heroes on each team meaning 4 heroes will be eliminated that match. One trick heroes will always have their 2nd and third favorite hero to mess around. However their best performance one is taken away.
That’s how you handle that problem.
Just trimming “” to the meat sans examples.
however many players we see, probably at least half that many different motivations/reasons going on, is where i begin.
For instance, sniper is not a class, it is a real world personality type. The sniper player always picks the sniper in every game and no matter how many snipers the team may already have. This well predates OW. It is part of why some game server ops changed the rules to limit classes in their game servers. Or a team can easily have too many snipers, playing stay away from the goal object and just shoot at it, for a viable go at pushing a TF2 cart to the end.
Or in some cases, like in MMORPGs, I almost exclusively play a healer class even though there are tons of other choices. Healer is not only the most challenging class to play, but the only one that never has to wait for a party to form up.
In other cases, after say 3-4 OW rounds of either i play a healer or we do not have one…gonna not have one from time to time then, I’m a just get tired of that role and want something different. As a player more interested in the play then the end results, the extra challenge of trying to win with no healer is actually fun from time to time.
Some players are just going to want to bring their A game every time, and they may very well be a one trick pony player, knowing full well they come up rather short as any other class.
In the end OW has one real fundamentally defining design characteristic compared to commonly found online FPS team PvP games. OW has a far far higher bar to entry than it appears to in art style and basic game objective play.
And by “bar to entry” I do not mean, are you tall enough to reach the keyboard? I mean are you really playing the game yet? Are you making well informed decisions yet?
This game has way way more game knowledge demand than most any other FPS i have played to date.
Most games are 90%+ hit scan weps and a few minor projectiles, generally rockets/explosive projectiles of some kind. And more games have a universal movement speed and type for all players. And those that do have differences, like TF2 are fairly minimal. Just 9 toons, and most of them move at about the same rate and do not have specialized movement options.
OW has so many different styles of weapons, hit scans, a wide variety of projectile types and speeds, and close up melee weps, unique character weps, and a wide wide variety of movement powers.
Until you know how to cope with every other toon, as whatever toon you are playing, and know all the maps and any unique character options a spceiffic map has to offer. Then not yet really playing “the game” until our decision are informed and not just best guessing.
With so much to know and so wide a variety of characters, it would seem to naturally fallout in that system that way more players wind up specializing in just 1-3 toons.
And upping that proficient toon count probably comes fairly slow compared to other FPS games, unless we commit job levels of time to it.
Than what do you do about the counters?
The old fashion way. You outsmart them as a team.
Oh, but than one tricks don’t matter.
I’m not going to wordplay with ya. We’re not going anywhere with this.
I suppose Blizzard forget to check with you on what characters where acceptable picks and which ones should not be allowed to be picked?
Maybe you should call them and make sure they get the message this time, because I am currently able to pick any of these three characters in any game mode where one can pick their character
Please hurry before anyone exercises their free will and god forbid plays Torb
Lives are on the line, here
You’re not making any sense to me right now. What are you talking about? Do you want developers to do something with the heroes I mentioned in my post or do you want players to stop ridiculing Symmetra and Torbjorn players?
then we’re even, I suppose
Um…yeah I guess so?
