The term DIFF should be banned

I dunno man.
I don’t personally say it but I don’t think banning GG EZ was good for the community. I think saying GG EZ or diff or whatever to the other team is a perfectly appropriate kind of trash talk. I don’t think that’s toxicity and if you’re going to play competitive online games with strangers, that is the kind of comment you should be okay with hearing from the people you’re playing against.

I do think that harassing your own teammates is poor sportsmanship and I think that should be a reportable offense. But trash talk is, for some people, part of being competitive and I really don’t see a problem with it as long as the comments aren’t personal.

It’s weird to me that the community is so sensitive about these particular phrases when there is so much, like, actual racism, sexism, ablism, antisemitism, etc in Overwatch. Not saying you can’t be upset about both, but, ya know, this one just seems kind of tolerable in comparison I guess.

If it were up to me, they should also ban the word “lose”. This game is in itself very toxic because the mechanics allow you to “lose” to someone else.
This promotes the idea that other players are better than others.
Blizzard should fix this.
Maybe instead of victory or defeat they should display something like “GREAT GAME!”,
and remove the leaderboard.

How soft has the world become that people can’t handle the word “diff”

This is the “everyone gets a trophy” world we live in I guess

its called hide chat

Oh my god, its a word. If you dont like getting diffed then get better. Im sorry you let word hurt your wittle feewings .

Wrong, even gg can be used as a toxic comment. For example in Warcraft 3, usually the loser writes gg and leaves the game. But sometimes a toxic person for example who basically already won the game writes gg - in this case he is making fun of the losing person and wants him to leave the match.

So gg can go both ways. In the case of diff, you can only assume it’s meant in a negative way. It can also be meant as some kind of a statement or observation.

You know they’ll just start using code words for everything right?
And then what are you gonna do, ban those words to?
Where does it end?

Eventually people will use a 3rd party platforms while playing games to get around the censorship. Then complaining here will become useless.

gaming is just wrong

Why did you intentionally misquote me? I said it shouldn’t be accepted anymore than GG EZ. The EZ part changes the meaning entirely.

You sure about that?

Point taken about the preemptive gg. But post match gg should be assumed to be positive.

This is pointless. Then they will just say “X Difference”. What are you going to expect them to do? Just start banning every word of acronym that you don’t like? Seriously, just mute that person and move on. Blizzard needs to balance the game, not worry about “diff” lmao

options - social - text chat - off

I’m 100% sure this would cause people to just do it more same thing with gg ez people don’t waste time avoiding the filter because you know exactly what they’re trying to say which makes it funnier

You, this post, and other snowflakes that defend or support you is the reason modern gaming is so bad. Calling a feeding tank that mindlessly charges in without regard, DPS who is not dealing damage or a healer who doesn’t heal out? God forbid, thats toxic. Words are the worst. Ruining the games for everybody because you dont care or want to troll is fine, as long as you didnt say “Diff” so another sensitive snowflake could be saved. CRINGE. You are definitely the type that gets diff a lot, its apparent. For a good reason.

This is comical-and has to be a troll post.

Do you have any idea how many times I’ve seen the healer called out when they’re actually doing an amazing job? It’s insane.

At least 80% of the time, the person complaining about their teammate is the problem themselves. It’s just because they’re too fragile to admit maybe they were the problem that they call diff on someone else.

How ironic of a post considering how absolutely cringe you are

Where do you think DIFF comes from, words change but context stays the same. Tell people not to say DIFF it will change into something else. It is a useless endeavor and a waste of time to deal with, people are gonna tell you your bad regardless.

No, problem is you crying about irrelevant words ( not even offensive words ) of a random nobody on the internet. Deal with it. If this is too much for you, real life will eat you alive. Do you think your boss will be polite when you mess up? lol. Also, i am support main and i am very much used to people blaming me for their own mistakes. Comes with territory. I just know their iq is room temp. Also, im a big girl their mean words wont kill me.

If you can’t handle name calling in a multiplayer game. Please Please Please, go back to drinking out of a sippy cup and watching Elmo.

Sure, but if you do that then ban all blaming and get rid of duos and grouping while we’re at it. I rarely start fights, but if someone gets snarky or toxic I’ll push right back (or block; mute isn’t sufficient). I’d much prefer that these 1s and 2s get banned from Team VC and Team Chat.

“Diff” is just a symptom of a bigger toxicity issue, especially from groups.

Example: I just got out of two games where a duo played poorly and started blaming me; then they avoided me (but swapped roles) and I proved them wrong.

  • AN859A : Classic snowball due to poor decision making in the first minute by our Rein (his duo is the Kiriko). Cue blaming from the tank why I’m not healing; I try explaining that staying in sight and not charging in so deep would help but…more blaming from the tank. Eventually I drop the “tank diff”.

  • N5QQ0D : Different tank on my team. The duo avoided me (thank god; I forgot to avoid them before queuing). Note that the duo’s roles are swapped around. Funny enough they start blaming one of their DPS, who isn’t the greatest, but that’s not why they lost. I didn’t even do amazing with Ana because I was not warm.

After they lost I told them to stop blaming their DPS. I didn’t even drop-in a “diff” the second round because honestly, it was pathetic.
