Because Ana has not been relevant for so long and now that she is people can’t take her nade and dart.
I made a big long post about this in another thread. But upshot is, yeah, it’s other support mains.
I’ve seen a grand total of one person who plays mostly DPS that has an issue with Ana. If you have evidence to the contrary, I invite you to link it, because hearsay is cheap.
For transparency’s sake, here is my post on the matter. Wrapped in escapes so it doesn’t spam people’s inboxes.

ok but ana is like picked 99% of the time.
Like it doesnt matter what hero it is, if theyre literally in every game they need changes. Like rein/zarta/hanzo comps earlier this year, it just wasn’t fun to play against the same things over and over again, and it got changes.
lol what? Ana becoming top dog had nothing to do with the disasters of the Mercy rework. It wasn’t Ana that sent her into the state shes in
I’m sure if Dive meta makes a comeback, Ana’s pick rate will go down since she is countered by Winston, Tracer, and Genji.
Ana is perfectly fine. Her kit is “high risk, high reward.” Using bionade to tanks and not herself, she can be flanked easily and has lost her self-healing for 10 seconds. If she uses bionade on enemies, she lost her burst healing ability and self-healing for 10 seconds.
Nano Boost is only as good as the person using it. The HP buff just makes it a more useful “instant” healing tool and not worrying too much about hitting all your shots to keep a teammate alive.
People forget that Sleep Dart has a lengthy cool down and is extremely difficult to hit. If Ana misses, she is screwed.
Genji witch Hunt ***
And yet, she leads in damage frequently, not just elims. That is the issue. Even if she doesn’t lead in damage, at least bronze is very possible. This is significantly harder to achieve with almost any other support Brig who can’t also get the healing out.
If a support is dealing more damage than her team… that’s not OP that’s bad DPS.
AND her team is recieving enough heals that’s just a good healer who deserves to move up. Bronze players aren’t necessarily going to be great at managing both
Nobody reported you for playing Zen or Lucio in the moth meta either buddy.
Statistically this isn’t true though.
Moira averages the 4th lowest damage in the entire game across all ranks. Only Brigitte, Ana and Mercy are below her.
Even in Bronze, the only DPS who averages less damage than Moira is Sombra, and that’s by a measly 100 DPS.
Statistically if Moira has Bronze then your Tanks and/or DPS are doing a garbage job.
If we look at the 3 most picked DPS (Genji, McCree and Hanzo) and Tanks (Reinhardt, Zarya and Dva) across all ranks:
As a reference, Moira averages 6559 damage per game.
Reinhardt averages 10839 damage, over 65% more than Moira.
Zarya averages 13379 damage, over 91% more than Moira.
Dva averages 13885 damage, over 98% more than Moira.
Genji averages 12651 damage, over 81% more than Moira.
McCree averages 12648 damage, over 81% more than Moira.
Hanzo averages 15976 damage, over 128%! more than Moira.
If you’re being beaten by Moira as any DPS or Tank besides maybe Mei, Doomfist, Winston or Sombra (who statistically do less damage than Zenyatta) then you’re either doing incredibly poorly or the Moira isn’t ever healing.
And if you’re looking for how much of a reference Brigitte does, she averages 6091 damage per game. Even less than Moira.
All my stats were taken off Overbuff, and they show the literal opposite to what you’re saying.
What on earth are you looking at that shows Moira to be a DPS powerhouse?
It was 10 more damage per shot, which is actually 12.5 DPS given Ana’s fire rate. DPS means Damage Per Second.
Ana had 10 shots, from what I remember. She now has 14. That’s a difference of 4.
No, actually, it’s not. Prior to the changes you listed but still after the Ana nerf and the subsequent Mercy meta, Ana received changes to how her weapon worked, allowing it to pierce through full health allies. While that’s in specific scenarios a disadvantage because it prevents her from pre-firing against expected incoming damage, it’s a significant advantage in many more scenarios.
Ana has received extremely significant and numerous buffs since the Mercy rework. People keep trying to downplay them, but when you actually stop to look it starts to look a bit ridiculous.
That said, the nerfs to Ana before the Mercy rework were also ridiculous, so she needed the buffs. Let’s stop pretending that she didn’t get anything significant, and instead simply acknowledge that she needed all the help.
Ana is in a fine place since her buffs. She’s where a support should be, and Moira and Mercy need to be brought up to her level, not the other way around.
Nerf Swiss cheese moth.
Imo, the Support roll ussually has healer mains going after eachother to make the one they play the new best (Ana mains on mercy, mercy mains on Ana etc.). I think it’ll only get worse as more supports get added, someone’s always going to be on top.
Actually, they did. I actually entered a 4 stack who didn’t want to touch her, looked at my profile to claim ‘you’re a support main, go Mercy’, and then report me for doing otherwise. This happened quite a bit and so-
I actually stopped playing Comp for awhile after that season, because competitive was just full of toxic manchildren bent on forcing me to play a hero I don’t like playing.
Yea, you can call it one-tricking: But I’m a flex player. I play everything under the sun, but I don’t want to play Mercy for how easy it is for her to obtain value.
On an unrelated note: Apparently the forums are too. Good to know.
Even if I take your anecdote at face value, you’re still making a very important distinction here.
You weren’t reported for playing Zen or Lucio. You were reported for not playing Mercy. I played plenty of comp during the moth meta and the only heroes you’d get “REEEEE SWITCH TO MERCY” for playing is either Moira or Ana. Lucio and Zen were never questioned (though people absolutely preferred Zen over Lucio).
This meta is no different. All we’ve done is switch Mercy and Ana around. Ana is just as strong as Mercy 2.0 was, and instead of “REEEE PLAY MERCY” if you’re Moira or Ana, you get “REEEE PLAY ANA” if you’re Moira or Mercy.
I mean ever since S2, the game has been dominated by either Ana or Mercy being ridiculously overpowered. (Except for like a month or two gap where nobody played main healers because Ana was garbage in Dive and Mercy was pre-rework Mercy).
And that’s always gunna happen so long as Blizzard just replace one broken hero with another.
She’s picked the most right now because of the tank meta we have. Not because she’s overbuffed. Once GOATS is gone I’d say her pickrate will go down again.
It happens because there should not be only one viable main healer ever. It was a joke when Mercy was only viable and it’s a joke now that you need an Ana in every game. Just make multiple main healers good. It should never get to, “Oh they have an x and we don’t, guess we’ll lose.”
The variety is just awful.
One buff of 300 health per nanaoboost took her from f tier to A+ tier? I call BS. I think people just forgot how good ana always was and they thought they wanted her back. They forgot her power and now regret it
Then why doesn’t Moira have a 15% pick-rate?
Or Lucio? Or Reinhardt? You know, the two heroes who literally define deathball?
Why does only Ana have such an obscene pick-rate?
It wasn’t one buff.
But even then that’s actually what I said? Ana was always good. She was just kept down by Dive hard-countering her and Mercy being horrendously overpowered.
When both those things were out of the picture, Ana was always going to come back. All those buffs did is ensure that when she did come back she’d be horrendously overpowered.
Sad as it may be, there’s a decent number of Mercy mains that just take their bitterness out on Ana. It happened way back in triple tank days too.
Not that it doesn’t go both ways, a lot of Ana mains pulled the same crap whenever Mercy was stronger. It’s a petty, self-destructive, and seemingly never-ending war between the two groups.
She’s only picked so much because not onky do people like playing her but she’s also extremely strong with and against goats and brawl comps.
