The silent "death" of Soldier and Reaper

there is a part of Solder and Reaper’s lore that is often completely ignored: if they weren’t “dead” in the explosion in Switzerland, where were they until Overwatch returned? what prompted them to get back into action now? I have some theories:

  • Reyes survives by being carried away by Moira. we can see a “soldier-24” file in Oasis, we can therefore speculate that it is there that Reaper has been healed / changed drastically over the years?
  • Morrison simply decides to disappear from circulation, much like Ana did. but it is more a speculation than a real plausible theory: some voicelines between Ana and soldier suggest that she retired by going to Hawaii, while soldier … we don’t know.

question: what drives them to return? especially Reyes, in stealing Overwatch data.

Theory: Talon waited for the Russian Omnium to reactivate before taking action (and with Reaper in Gibraltar) while soldier acts following news of some ex-overwatch agents killed by the mysterious assassin Reaper.

do you think it makes sense?

Return? Return to what? There is no confirmation that soldier will be coming back to Overwatch and Reyes is now Reaper, who has no affiliations to Overwatch

by “returning” I mean “in action”.
Why is reaper only now deciding to attack Winston rather than shortly after? Why did soldier just start collecting weapons in Grand Mesa to hunt down Talon just now? Why did they decide to come back NOW, during the Recall period? what has suddenly changed? what were they waiting for?

that they are no longer affiliated with Overwatch is already known.

Who said all the shorts are happening directly within the same time period?

Michael Chu did at GDC. Recall/Alive/Hero/Dragons all take place around the same time.
