The reason for the support bottleneck

You No Touchy My Heal! lol

Healing is what I love. I don’t mind having other utility (I actually like it), but I want the heals!

:joy: Well if they released more support heroes we could have both. I guess I’m advocating for more off supports.

It’s less about supports being so good and more about the lack of variety and the more weakened position of supports in OW2.

With one less tank to peel, less barriers to block damage and an already limited cast of supports, it feels like supports have gotten the biggest nerf in terms of impact and survivability, and unlike other roles, new heroes haven’t been added to really offset this effect.

Queue times for support alone suggests a high level of apathy for the role.

Doesn’t she have 200HP now in OW2. When I played her I could’ve sworn she had regular HP.

Before you get jumped on for this statement and hit with a, “position better” or, “learn how to play.” I’m going to say that in the first beta supports criticized the “new” game for forcing supports to play hide and seek.

This is still true to a lesser extent without the speed passive.

Is it? Is it really? If they were leaving OW1 in place, I would agree. But they are sadly not.

The best thing about OW2? That is makes the balance in OW1 feel SO much better lol

Oh don’t worry. I’m speaking on behalf of myself, as a GM Support player (I say this and mostly play Mercy and Zen lmao). I know I have a lot to learn in terms of positioning for the new maps but I think this aspect of playing supports is hardly important in the grand scheme of OW2.

Yep. Noticed this especially on Push maps.

And is worsened by Junker Queen who has both anti-heal and DoT. Playing support against her was a nightmare. My healing was less effective overall and my survivability dropped dramatically.

I’ve seen the support positioning argument pop up alot lately for those saying OW2 is fine for them. The thing is most supports already had to do good positioning in OW1, the last beta had DPS able to reposition so fast the mobile supports were able to escape but the overall positioning aspect shouldn’t be any great leap for those that were playing supports well in OW1. II don’t think alot of them want to make teammates unkillable either, the issue is it feels like its not fun for a good portion of them. This same argument was made for DPS and tanks in OW1 with the changes reflected in OW2. Now it’s supports turn. We’ll just let them voice their opinions and feelings and see where Blizzard goes. the “you have to adapt” threads aren’t really helping.

Shameless plug: can we slide in some reaper buffs next patch…thanks.

I actually am enjoying the queues, I’m playing support.

I think hide and seek has always been true from ow1 to ow2. It’s seen more as a ability to win or carry complaint and not a complaint about the roles identity.
A tank got removed and the tank left over was uber buffed at the expense of supports skill expression.
While I don’t play much Lucio, I imagine it’s more a game of tag than hide and seek. idk. I played a lot of zen in the first beta. Zen was basically another slower and less effective DPS.

Makes sense. I forgot that ML7 cant dps diff with relative ease.

Keep whining man. Don’t whine about queue times though.

After the earlier support buffs, supports right now are the strongest heroes in the game. They’re the most impactful and I’m honestly confused how I hear complaints from support players here in the forums. The only reason people are saying that support sucked is because they didn’t get anything new. If they would’ve moved sym to support and released the fox girl this wouldn’t have been the case.

Good position is relative. When you can create more cover anywhere with ease there’s positioning that would normally be bad that’s now good. You can still do the create cover, but there’s less of it and more opportunity for people to coming at you from an off angle.

Another thing that most supports aren’t used to is also contributing to damage. If it’s not a Zen main or someone playing Bap, most supports don’t really think doing damage and getting kills is something they should be doing. However this is almost a requirement in OW2

They are very strong, but I’d definitely still say that tank is the strongest role.

I watched a Horse and a Soldier pewpewing straight ahead while getting shot in the side (not even the back) by a Torb. I tried to keep them up and shoot him, but with his cooldown Mercy does not stand much of a chance when he decides to get rid of me first after that.

No need, Making dps run 30% faster if below 50% health will do, and reduce 20% of health pack cooldown if used by dps hero, if the 30% movement speed is not enough. So that dps could run faster to take the health pack if they have low health.

And below is my opinion for support:

honestly this.

ive played almost exclusively supports, mostly brig and the most of them are playing the exact same as i would expect them to in ow1

the only real difference that has been made is that ana has way more opportunity’s to use her utility aggressively and zen is able to hit the squishy back line more with discord and orbs acting like additional lite dps.

if i had to say something about the support role in general in ow2 is that it feels more like the average match during dive era pre mercy rework. characters running around everywhere with support struggling to keep up with them and having to fight solo matches with dps or tank that hunts them and getting no peel in return.

this was awful time and probaly reinforced the idea there was only ever 1tank or 1 support at times and many people going dps instead during this since it was more fun and easier since you didnt have to put with no peelas a support, or the lack of healing from the supports never being there as a tank

Making the game harder for casuals who don’t have the time to no life the game is a sure fire way to keep the game healthy, absolutely! :man_facepalming:

I don’t think the learning curve for supports is any harder than it is for any other role. If anything it matches that of others now.
