i dont know why we have to bring up so many social justice and political issues here either, but we do!
you just listed why BR in general has gained so much popularity
It’s weird but this is the first BR I’ve actually enjoyed. I found Fortnite and Pubg not to my taste, but Apex feels different.
I’m pretty sure it’s also because it’s basically brand new and there isn’t really a competitive scene associated with the game, making playing it simply be “for fun” instead of what competitive games end up becoming.
It’s not a team game in reality, each person pretty much can do what they want and still win.
It was when it first came out, when arcade came out we even had popularity bars bellow the mode icons and 3v3 always had a full bar and was always the big square.
Then they changed it and people stoped playing, the people that played 3v3 complained about the lockout thing but it fell on def ears and the mode slowly died because the hardcore 3v3 community left because of the lockout changes.
Believe it or not there was even 3v3 tournaments starting to pop up ORGANICALLY, not like OW league forced crap.
TL;DR mode was popular as hell and devs killed it by pandering to casuals.
it likely will still be less toxic than ow, because in apex, even if two other teammates are down, you can still become a champion by yourself.
Abilities in apex are not overpower nor game changing. It’s all about your map awareness, your aim, your positioning, your movement etc.
Apex doesn’t heavily reinforce role. Let say that you are missing a dps, or a support, or a tank role in your team, you can still win.
There is no “throw pick” in apex.
It is not about competitive mode, it’s about the core game mechanic.
Plenty of other games have competitive system for years, and it never generate so much salt like ow.
The real reason is that bad to below average players can hide better in Apex. Even if they are not aware they are bad.
Yo play the game drop down a plane, look for guns, play hide and seek and die. Start over. No biggie. Even if you did awful, you can just start over.
In OW you are graded. There is a big Bronze, Silver, etc icon next to your name to let everyone know you are not good at the game.
No one likes to hear they are bad, and everyone (IN THEIR MINDS) thinks they are better than they are.
So they make it their mission to climb to a rank they think they deserve and when they struggle they blame the game, their team mates, and every other thing they can think of. This is not fun to most players.
Solo caring is not ez in this game and winning depends a lot on others more than your personal skill.
SO in short any game where you get graded and everyone can see your grade will turn out to not be fun after a while.
The only 3v3 mode is elimination which is a terrible game mode. 4v4 Team Deathmatch is very popular and still would be if it were 3v3 Team Deathmatch.
Mods plz give us an offtopic section for stuff like this just like other good forums.
A little different than 3 vs 19 teams of 3
tbh in my experience the rule changes to 3v3 were very well received. Before it was Soldier/Ana/Hog every single round or lose and it just got boring after a while.
Lockout made the mode much more strategic and exciting.
also nobody was hosting quality, serious tournaments for 3v3 wtf are you on about. Maybe a little thing here and there set up by a streamer or discord server but nothing actually important.
I’ve had plenty of Apex matches so far where Johnny Awesome runs into the middle of a fire fight, gets slaughtered then proceeds to spend the next minute over mic explaining how the other player and I are trash, should kill ourselves or some other general verbal diarrhea. I am thank full however there is no all chat.
When I joined Overwatch, it was way less toxic. It was such a breath of fresh air after LoL. Just this niche game with a cool and open-minded community full of people who were nice to me.
It was so great.
It’s not the game. It’s the mindset. Overwatch became this thing that revolves around Competitive and the superstars of the community are teenagers who play this game for money in a professional setting or stream the game online. The same thing that drove me away from LoL happened here too.
On the flip side, we’re the community, and so if we want Overwatch to be less toxic, we have to make it so, and start being nice to each other.
Please.
It’s not that hard. Just be positive, kind, patient and understanding with other players.
I think toxicity really started building up in games when people got better at the game or at least they thought they did.
The more invested you are in a competitive game, the more you tend to rage at things that bring a loss to your table & it’ll just make the overall experience much worse.
I remember when I bought this game I played for 12-14 hours straight. I kept dying but I was so excited even when I did, I just kept wanting more.
Now I know why I die and what my mistakes are, I mostly know when I failed and it makes me mad. I don’t rage at other people through my mic but I’m certaintly more toxic by myself.
It’s a new game. There are much less players. In time, it’ll turn into a toxic wasteland just like Fortnite, Overwatch, LOL, or any game for that matter. Overwatch started out with a great community as well.
Give it time. All multiplayer games return to the toxicity whence they came. For you see, toxicity is the multiplayer genre’s true essence. (Fun little Kingdom Hearts reference there, for any fans)
He made a comparison to OW and how the mentality always seems to be to blame other people, where as in other games you can really tell when you aren’t pulling your weight.
Another theory: in Battle Royale you kind of expect to lose. There are so many teams, unless you are playing in a really elite squad you will lose most of the time and that’s OK.
In a Team v Team match up, people obviously get more frustrated at every single perceived error by their team mates.
Totally different game modes and mentalities.
Overwatch is very team dependent. With Apex Legends, a player can carry a team. You cannot really do this in Overwatch.
Also, there’s “match making” in Overwatch. As such all the players in the team are supposedly the same skill level. This further forces everyone in the team to depend on each other because there’s no skill advantage (no carry).
In Apex, I don’t think there’s any match making, so a rank newbie can be grouped up with a couple of pros.
I know I suck at the game (I’ve only played 2 games) but I’ve already won a game because I played support for two random hot shots that won it for me. I got no kills or anything. I just made sure to keep them alive and that was about all. So players in Apex aren’t dependent on each other.
