The PTR Is Worthless

The PTR is SUPPOSED to be where Blizzard tests new ideas and gets feedback. Well, there’s tons of feedback on the Sombra changes, and Blizzard’s straight-up ignoring it and pushing the nerf on the PTR through. So the Sombra players get to eat [CENSORED]. What’s the point if Blizzard’s not going to listen to the feedback?

And yes, the Sombra changes on the PTR are a nerf. Certain points might not be, but the changes overall make her weaker, and no you can’t convince me otherwise.

Im honestly not surprised at this point. They’ve done this multiple times. They did it with Mercy. They did it with D.VA. They did it with Roadhog.

All of that feedback got ignored.

Its upsetting considering its Sombra of all heroes getting hit with the nerf hammer.

PTR is only used to find bugs, not for testing out how heroes are. I’m not saying that it shouldn’t be for seeing how heroes work and get feedback from that but it’s only used for bugs now.

I relate to the ptr!

the issue with ptr is how overdramatic the playerbase is

look at all the players that said d.va was useless after her rework, or the people that raged that mercy got reduced to 2 resurrects because it would’ve “killed” her

sombra’s changes are actually awful though

I don’t recall them saying that the PTR is for trying new ideas. Blizzard has never done this. They do all their idea testing in-house with just Blizz employees. When they find something they feel they like then it goes to PTR for bug testing.

Now it somewhat worthless when it comes to bug testing and balance.

Maybe because they made it unplayable to everywhere except 1 region?

You know I read somewhere that PTR is more for bug testing but hilariously Blizzard also pushes through buggy patches, too.

The PTR exists for literally no reason than testing new heroes and getting them as-is with the default client. It’s amazing.

I do agree that PTR Sombra is booty. Yes, the second set of changes were obviously better than the first set of changes; they reversed the detection range, they made it so that reload could be interrupted by hack, and they made a few more small changes. However, the PTR version of this character is still worse than the Live version in my eyes; they did not reverse the vulnerable translocator and they did not reverse the Stealth changes.

So now Sombra’s whole kit can get cancelled by some random D.Va/Reaper pellet (and you’ll get penalized for it).

I prefer 75% speed bonus and the ability to contest, by a mile, over Infinite Stealth. Infinite Stealth makes her look more like some useless spectator cam; the reduction of her speed while in Stealth mode makes her feel a bit poky and sluggish, and it kinda makes it more difficult to get past choke points. So, from what I see, they’re basically they’re slowing her down and making it so someone can wait until the perfect time to attack, in an extraordinarily fast-paced game. I also feel like it would make her (more of) a throw pick in competitive.

Since Blizzard didn’t reverse the destructible translocator or the Stealth changes, it seems to me that they weren’t genuinely listening to the overwhelmingly negative feedback we gave them that relates to the two nerfs. However, a great number of non-Sombra players argue that “PTR Sombra > Live Sombra”, without really saying anything sensible to convince me that this is the case. Not to mention that some people lied about having tons of hours on her, and that’s where I became more confident that most of them are either trolls or just mad bigoted Sombra haters. I don’t need to “change my playstyle”, no. I’d rather just quit playing her, even though I don’t want to (if you know what I mean). I think it’s just that they can’t get used to Sombra in her current state; if they did, they would have been much more likely to understand why we’re not okay with this change.

…and that’s my honest opinion on these changes.

Yep. I get what you mean. Heck, I’ve barely touched the character since the 2-second cooldown nerf got farted out, I hate it that much. Well, that and it’s harder than a slab of granite to find a support player in Gold.

Yeah I noticed the cooldown nerf like weeks ago, and it’s actually ridiculous. It’s kinda like Mei’s self-healing being interrupted by 1 D.Va/Reaper pellet.

Symmetra would like to have a word with you, simply put, “Welcome to my reality.”

The PTR is primarily Blizzard bug testing and people trying stuff early.

You’ve got a bit of feedback and listening to feedback mixed in but, it’s not terribly serious most of the time on either side.

Yep. and Yep… and Yep.

The PTR is a wonderful idea, but it has turned into a gimmick to get veteran players to keep playing the game.

Blizz can’t admit to that, and I totally understand, but it would be nice if they never needed to and actually listened to feedback.

That would be a revolutionary idea, right along with Valve doing quality control on Steam.

Maybe these changes put sombra in a better design space to be buffed in the future? I honestly have felt pretty great since the last patch of LOS fixes, but I still don’t think they’re enough.
I dunno, I’m going to try and stay optimistic, and maybe, just maybe, this will all work out. If
Hammond becomes a meta thing, I think we’ll see bae come out in a good place.

Just, give her back the freaking speed blizzard. I get the not being able to contest, but why oh why make her slower? Did anyone ever say “sombra is TOO FAST!” No, so why?

I don’t trust Blizzard to do that.

Um…they did listen to the playerbase. They reverted the detection radius back to 2m and made translocator not have the audibility of a fire alarm. Plus her hack can interrupt her reload animation (which probably should have been there from the get go all things considered)

Keep in mind they didn’t inform the playerbase that translocator had the audibility of a fire alarm, and that the 4 meter radius made sombra unplayable.

And yet they listened when the players gave feedback.
