The only way you climb rank

Yeah, that explains a lot. They hard boosted the lower ranks to push GMs up and populate Champ. That’s not a normal reset, that was intentional boosting

They never did

Ranks Reset happen every 6 months

You don’t even need rank reset to climb. But I think it’s important to only play during peak hours, especially if you play in a less populated region. Otherwise, you’ll be put in dodgy matchmaking.

I tend to win more games if I play between 6pm to 11pm during weekdays. On weekends, I can also play during the morning and still get decent games though.

This is how.

Skill Rank Reset

  • With a huge wave of new Perks and tuning to existing Perks, this soft reset is designed to put players on an even playing field and give them a chance to climb even higher than ever before.
  • The highest Ranks (Master, Grandmaster, and Champion) have been tuned again to include a higher percentage of the player population once players are well calibrated.

I climbed, exceeded my former peak and have now “stabilized” there. How come I can do it while you claim it’s not possible?

If you play “excellently” as DPS, you’re in, what, Top 100, or rather in an OWCS Team above qualifiers.

I notice that some days I end up with a mean losing streak but 9 times out of 10 my gameplay and overall effectiveness is never any different from one day to the next. There are just some days that I get regular teammates and some days I get the backup crew dancers all day.

The matchmaking as far as I’ve researched, is win rate based, it doesn’t count any other status like aiming, kills/deaths rate, your performance with roles, heros, abilities, decision making.
So if the game puts you in a lobby whit ppl that only plays 1 hero or don’t know how to team work or how the game works, well, it happens what happens; you are pretty much left on luck’s hands, it sucks.

The amount of damage control in these kinds of threads is suspicous to say the least.

If you climb you’re boosted, if you fall you deserve it.

And of course we have “the ranking system is fine” together with “I feel the strong need to reset my MMR over and over with new accounts”.

The only boosting we’re talking about is the boosting the devs literally told us they were doing.

This is part of the problem and always has been. Nothing there should be tuned. Theoretically, everyone should be able to be in GM if they are good enough. Its always bugged me that the % of people per ranks largely stayed the same, even though the skill level has raised considerably. This was even worse in OW1. There’s absolutely no reason they couldnt, or shouldnt swap to glicko which has been amazing for years.

The percentage of people in any given rank is only going to change if the devs manipulate ranks. That’s because rank is proportional to effort and skill. Very few people are going to care enough about the game to get GM, and of them, even less go about it the correct way. Hence why it’s such a small portion of the playerbase

And the UR2GM is done. 97% winrate, placed GM3. Because I’m actually good at the game and understand that winning=ranking up

im not even saying GM should be a huge pop, but definitely there should be some rank creep as average skill levels increase. This is doubly so given the level of team work needed. Instead, skills levels feel more random than qp. Often playing better feels like you more often draw worse teammates. Usually this seems to be in the form of teammates who dont know kill orders, or that enemy tank is generally not gonna die till at least one healer does.

But…no? High ranks improve too. That shifts the playerbase back to the same place. That’s literally how you maintain a high rank; you have to improve much faster than the people around you. Skill levels don’t stay static just because they’re near the top. As a T500, just within a couple seasons, I found myself easily killing the same exact people I couldn’t beat before. Just because we’re at the top doesn’t mean we can’t raise that ceiling higher. T500s get a LOT better every single season just to stay where we are.

Then I invite you to see what happens when a GMs teammates suck. I JUST finished an UR2GM and had games like that. The thing is, it didn’t even matter. I was playing low enough that just going for kills basically negated the issue. And if I was playing higher, I could’ve gotten a similar result playing normally.

The thing is, good players can have bad games. You can have bad teammates no matter how good you are. But ranks are averages. If you play enough, you’ll win more than you lose if you deserve to climb. Even if you can’t carry the so-called “unwinnable” games like a GM could, you can still win the next one. You can’t have bad teammates all the time, and if you seriously think it’s a large percentage of your games, you’re not climbing because you aren’t trying to learn.

ur2gm is just an ego trip though. If you’re enough ranks ahead of everyone it doesnt even matter when you solo teams. This does matter when you should move from say, plat 5 to plat 2 for example. This is because there is no consistency in teammates, or tbh enemies in most ranks. And the higher you climb, the less likely you are to match with/against people who just dont have a clue. A player is rarely going to improve to several ranks ahead of where they are, and that is the kind of improvement you need to really move a rank up.

Nope. It shows that no game is unwinnable. Being better than your opponents drastically increases your chances of winning even if it’s not by a lot

Maybe you won’t, but I’ve seen this happen. (And done it myself, but most of my climbing happened during OW1)

So it may seem to us that it is a 50/50 cause you are good at one thing but another…

Like you may be good at aiming and getting elims or you are better at seeing how team fights play out and how you play the game
