Japan still very much celebrate lunar new year. They just dont do the ridiculous 2 weeks holiday where the entire country just shutdown to celebrate like China or Vietnam. there are still family reunions, ceremonies, fireworks, lion dances and festival

OW having poor voice direction isn’t anything new, back when the Mei cinematic came out people were upset at the VA’s performance because of the poor deliveries of lines, when it was obvious the cinematic would have been better quality if her lines were in Chinese. Like it or not, poor VA directing is a point the OW community has been very consistent in critiquing and just dismissing that as “people just want to complain” comes across as being very…what’s the word?
You mean like every single hero in the game? Yes. Having someone who grew up supposedly in Japan sound like the single most typical American person in the entire game and that’s including Flashidy is extremely distracting. We’re talking about consistency at this point and she has ruined that.
I don’t see why it would be… the subtitles spell it shimada as usual, and the japanese equivalent lines do not say Shimaba.

I think most of the complaints are all based on the same line (after the winston fight) where she says “you’re not the doctor” or w.e
I also didn’t like that particular line either and felt it didn’t match the flow, but it might not even be her voice, it might just be the wording of the line, but it seems weird and considering multiple people have been bringing up the same part it can’t be a coincidence as they didn’t complain about the other parts.
I don’t think her VA is bad per say, but she sounds pretty bored with some lines?
I don’t know her from anything else so that may just be her voice though (or the direction).

I’m talking about “Rise and Shine”, not the OW2 trailer. When Rise and Shine came out there were many complaints about her voice acting in the cinematic, because the delivery felt stifled since English is her second language.
I won’t lie, I don’t like Kiriko much but it’s not the fault of the voice actor, it’s the characters personality. She’s a bit too snarky and rude for my liking and can be pretty harsh with some of her lines. That said though, I don’t think she or her voice actor need to be changed. Kiriko isn’t for me but other people do like her. I already have characters that appeal to me and I’m happy with them.
She’s nowhere near as “cringe” as D.VA. Hana Song is not “adorable”.

Back in brig release days when that hero obliterated any chance of having fun in the game and created the dreaded triple tank triple dps meta, Some people actually started harassing the voice actor of her character. You really have to be a piece of SH$T to do something like that.
