As a support main, with over 200 hours on my main, the few games i’ve played on 2-2-2 lock have been absolutely atrocious. I’ve lost all 5 support placement matches due to incompetent teammates who have no clue how to play their newly acquired roles and decide to blame the support players their own lack of skill. I’d much prefer healing 5 decent DPS players as oppose to 2 decent team mates and 3 brainless idiots. The biggest consequence of this for support players is now the MMR reset as many will be placed in a lower skill ranking due to no fault of their own.
My experience was the exact opposite. I thought having, for the most part, a couple of dedicated tanks to be a luxury. i think everyone’s experience is going to be up and down for a couple of weeks (this is a beta after all) but I had GREAT matches.
As a support main, I’ve had great matches as well. I like being able to play a guaranteed role and have a guaranteed balanced team comp. Yeah, ranks are a little wonky now but difference in player skill levels existed before 2-2-2. For every decent 5 DPS comp that existed before, there was also a terrible 5 DPS comp.
I will put up with potentially crummy DPS players in exchange for not being the only support or not having a match with no tank.
I’ve had a few potatoes on my team but there’s usually just as many on the other team too.
OP does have a point though, all these tank players coming out of the wood work “now that I’m guaranteed to have two supports and an off-tank tanking will be fun”
stands on the wrong side of the choke with shield down
walks toward sentry Bastion 30m away with shield up out in the middle of the open
charges straight onto point with half health and misses the entire enemy team
“WHY AM I NOT GETTING HEALED?!”
Yeah, that’s what happens when people are either rusty from not playing or have learned bad habits from the previous disorganized state of the game. If you do dumb things, you tend to get punished for them much harder now. People will adjust (or severely derank), but it will take some time.
I will say that, as support, I find that bad DPS are much more obviously bad now. When you had a bad DPS on a team with 4 DPS, stuff still died. When you only have two DPS and one or both of them are terrible, nothing ever dies. No matter how good your heals and tanks are, if nothing ever dies, you aren’t going to win.
If you were placed lower than you actually belong then you’ll slowly but surely climb to where you belong. I placed lower on an alt account back to where i should be.
5 matches isn’t enough to decide where you belong yet.
If you feel that not enough stuff is dying, you can always go Moira / Baptiste / Zen. The difference between a pickoff and an opponent surviving to get fully healed can be razor thin, sometimes a discord orb is enough to make the difference.
Also, don’t forget, on attack, you usually only have to win a couple teamfights to win. Losing teamfights is okay if you’re winning the ult status war. If the defenders blow like 3 ults on a teamwipe and we don’t use any, I’ll take that trade. Make sure you’re getting good value out of your Support ult and you can swing a lot of battles that otherwise look nearly unwinnable.
This right here. Without others to flex to dps to help fix it, it can be a nightmare. Im sure many people have had “great amazing” matches, but mine have been absolutely terrible. I was pretty excited for 2 2 2, and overall I think it has potiential, but right now its a cluster. Most of my teams have had terrible dps and I really try not to be critical of people, but its been bad (for me anyway). Sadly I cant get assits when nothing is killed, its felt pretty unrewarding.
Hey. I lost all my support placements as well. Then went on a 10 game winning streak. Its luck of the draw.
I agree, sometimes it seems luck has a lot to do with it.
Heres hoping I can secure even a fraction of your winning streak
It has been great for me so far. Having guarenteed tanks and another healer is awesome. And while people may still be figuring things out with the separate role SR people are going to get put in the rank they belong at with that role anyway.
This was my experience with my PTR tank placements. Got bad DPS several games in a row and was hard stuck silver despite having played tank for 100s of hours comfortably in plat. Hadn’t seen silver since season 2, literally.
The few I’ve played have been wonderful
(over 400 hours on my main and I’m a support main)
Sounds a lot like the same problem that happened before 2/2/2
This is not new
Your toxic nature is showing
Couldn’t disagree more. I’ve had fun matches, 3/5 won and keep in mind I ended up placing 400sr lower than what I was at the last time I played comp.
I performed well, I got complements on my play (probably because I was playing with diamonds even though theoretically I should be master but w/e) and I had fun, because no one was yelling at another person to play something else. The roles worked with their partners and switched accordingly it was great. My support partners were probably the nicest people I’ve met in OW in a long time.
Even when we lost no one was like “OMG IT"S YOUR FAULT YOU *************”
Actually no, before 2-2-2, people could play the heroes they were decent at. Now all of a sudden, some people are deciding they are going to start playing rein when they have about 5 hours on him.
For me it’s actually so good, won 14 out of 18 games since it’s released. It’s heaps good. All were hard victories though, not easy. Haven’t had so much fun on overwatch in ever.
My games have been going really well lol. Of course there’s the few one tricks that are trying to play a diff role but, they’ll drop soon so
This is my EXACT experience after 3 placements. It’s terrible. Team death match every game. No grouping. No idea how to play the game.
It’s the least fun Overwatch I’ve played in 1500 hours. No I’m lying. I played with a broken finger once and that was worse.
