You can apply the same logic to OW as well. OW has forever been on battle.net launcher directly from blizzard. I’ve absolutely no reason to swap over to steam to redownload the game when the old launcher still works just fine.

I mean The Finals has many problems. It’s made by a dev team with absolutely no passion for one, with a less inspired prompt. It uses AI for voice acting, it’s pretty clearly not a project of love at any stage in the pipeline.
I mean I’ll continue playing Valorant and actually enjoying my life instead of eating the slop of either The Finals or Overwatch.
Yeah I know that now. It still wouldn’t surprise me if it just falls into the pile of ADHD movement shooters that die after 3 months.
I thought XDefiant was a Call of Duty clone, not a movement shooter… Did something happen?
Player numbers are not a good indicator of quality, only popularity. I highly doubt Overwatch will ever get dethroned at this point. Despite all the drama and negativity, this game somehow manages to retain a decent sized playerbase.
What’s keeping me interested is Season 12’s Space Ranger, my beloved.
Dead by daylight has more players than its own sequel too 
We live in times where we will have “Flavor of the Quarter” games. They will be played A LOT for 3 months, then their audience will drop sharply and become steady after 6 months.
Right now we are living the Helldivers 2 quarter, lets see what happens.

I think it’s a fantastic game, incredible depth for the current scope.
The main issue is i don’t think it was built for more than that by the Dev’s and they are using a game engine that is no longer developed.
So i don’t know how they will modify it to be able to add consistent content like say warframe or destiny.
As it is the gameplay loop will get boring after a while if they don’t have a way to keep it going.
But there is a lot of good approach made in this game.
What sequel?
Besides this whole thread is ridiculous because OP is bragging about having a difference of 8k players like if that was a huge deal lmao. The Finals is still on the top 20 sellers on Steam, 8k players less doesnt mean anything.
Actually, OW should be worried about XDefiant because if there is a company that is used to live service games and whose fanboys keep supporting thats precisely Ubisoft, and XDefiant is apparently a quality one.

Finals is kinda done though, it has plenty of good innovations like server side destruction sync but it’s modes were bland.
At most xdefiant can challenge cod not ow.
And cod knows what they are doing, cod is not a game with identity issues or fundamental problems like ow, it’s like Goku wearing weighted cloths while fighting, interms of monetization and stuff.
The moment it’s threatened too much it can easily drop the weight and start punching back

And cod fanbase is 100x fanatical than anything ubi Bois have.
Thats like when we thought Apex played in a different League then they are mopping the floor with OW.
Its still free, its gonna pack a punch. People who already tried the game all coincide its probably gonna be a big thing because it has really good quality for a f2p, and they were smart enought to delay it to avoid the CoD fanboys wave.
FYI OW2 actually had a much quicker and larger player drop off than the finals did. OW2 lost nearly 35 million players in a couple months lol.
I always said the finals has tremendous potential, but no matter how good the game is, it ALWAYS comes down to how the devs handle patches and player feedback. In some areas they handled it very well, in other areas very poorly.
Feedback for general gameplay has been highly positive but the 2 biggest mistakes these devs have made is 1, They’ve done absolutely nothing to improve their ranked system which is every bit as bad as OW2s last ranked system if not worse. It’s just fake. There is no matchmaking, bronze and diamond can be in the same game together.
And 2, they failed to get medium class under control. It is extremely over powered with wall hacks and instant rezes so the meta since launch has been MMM or MMH.
It’s sad that people let games and companies become part of their egos. This post reads like someone hurt you by saying the finals was a good game and now you’re out for revenge or something…so cringe.
It will likely see a resurgence at some point anyway if the devs ever fix the problems I mentioned. Apex also fell off hard in its early days but it’s made a major come back and has been in the steam top 10 for several years.

What happened to the finals is that CHEATERS ran everyone off. They didn’t get a handle on it, like Blizzard does. Sure, Blizzard isn’t great at it either. But at least they have more active mods here that worked on flushing the cheaters down the drain.
In The Finals, Every match has someone lasering people off the map, and I get plenty of team mates with dookie aim and they insta-snap n’ track players. and i get the occasional team mate kicked from the server for cheating. So yeah. it was going to take the world by storm. But they broke the cardinal rules.
1 ) Never make a game free to play under 40 dollars.
2 ) If you do not get a handle on cheaters and take a major approach to it.
They could’ve at least implemented a kill cam, or replay option. This way you can’t even tell whether someone is seeing you with walls abilities, or hes is using walls cheats. But yeah, getting two shot into the head across the map, is what made me stop playing that game. Cheaters and incompetent devs killed The Finals.

Overwatch is one of only a handful of games that is STILL doing well after nearly 10 years, and doomers will still spam the forums saying the game is dead/doomed lmao.
