Many changes couldâve been made to keep it high risk/high reward, but making it more possible to survive in more situations (super jump being probably the ONLY change I would need for this), like an E with some form of additional mobility to secure herself or a damage reduction instead of invuln. This wouldâve allowed her to be ulted, but allowed forced ult if she was stuck or bladed, etc. because she could survive a bit better, but would still be killable, ultable, stunnable, hackable, etc.
Then why are all the data that we have from that period suggesting that mercy was a throw pick as a healer before she got invuln? Certainly such a powerful ability that has no counterplay would put her way above being a throw pick.
Her rework in its entirety (before the invulnerability patch) shouldâve been giving her Valkyrie (minus everything but the movement) as an E ability, on a reasonable cooldown and a reasonable duration to escape every now and then with. Thatâs it. Thatâs all old Mercy shouldâve gotten and nothing more.
first of all i remember her being played a lot
and ana being op? (not sure)
but see it this way
mercy was strong
specialy on low ranks, just like every low skill hero
and her skill ceiling was also low
the devs wanted to give her a boost
they buffed her the worst possible way
she became extremly strong
and then
everyone and their mother wanted rez removed on the proscene
the devs agreed that it was cancer
because it had no counterplay
and couldnt be balanced
removed
With changes, it could be useful. The super jump in specific can easily launch her in unpredictable positions to res, while also giving her higher survival naturally. But I am an avid user of super jump, so maybe not a lot of people could utilize it.
A damage reduction could also help, while allowing forcing res as a strategy because damage reduction could still save Mercy and allow her team to react enough to save her, while also forcing her to res.
When Reaper flanks to make a play. Itâs a common request for his teammates to push forward without him, and distract them as damage sponges for extra surprise. Yes people have died as a result or take a lot more damage when itâs 5vs6, one teammates is at different corner of the map while putting a lot more pressure on a tank or healer.
Please no double standard or bad arguments for when dps/heal/tank hide to make a play.
People are so paranoid of resurrection or heals making big play, while DPS get to team wipe and congrats on taking cover and pew pew. Itâs hypocritical.
Also Mercy doing Mass Resurrection wasnât always done out of sight. Sometimes the enemy team is distract, just bad, and out played by Mercy.
You remember that is all fine and well but she was below both Lucio and Zen and when Ana came out below her too. That is why Mass rez kept getting more and more buffs (also called the suicide rez) with every patch till finally they added invulnerability and only after that did the no counterplay argument started being true. The pros started wanting rez removed after the moth meta which was even worse than invulnerability, on the pro scene she wasnât even used with mass rez unless the team ran a pharmercy and then mercy kept her rez just for pharah.
I called her Suicide Mission Mercy, and I actually loved that version of Mercy for God knows what reason.
I would always start the match in match chat (not team) and day, âHello. My name is Angela Ziegler, and I will be your âHeroes neverâ EUUGGGHHH!ââ
I just loved her, I loved memeing with her, and I loved ressing people into death (still do. I just love meme resses in QP).
When one of my friends told me Mercy was getting the invuln buff, my literal only reaction was, âWhyâŠ?â Because it was meant to be high risk/high reward.
healers are made to make teams extremely strong, in exchange theyâre easy to kill
yet they have their potential to make big plays and carry
itâs just not the same kind of big play
if you want a potg u can always play a hero whoâs made to do big plays, like rein and genji
or u can play those heros who rarely get potg but carry like orisa and 76
but guess what? aria roseâs video is based around her proving that mass rez was fine, which is wrong, and if we go deeper into her video, she has no arguemnts, just comparing stuff to other stuff and thinking itâs the same context
There was more to just hiding to res. Most times Mercy was considered âhiddenâ because she would back out of lost team fights to reset them and stack the odds in her teamâs favor more. This was seen as not actively participating in the ENTIRE fight, which is true. Mercy didnât, and still wonât, stay in a lost fight and try to heal through it if she canât. That wasnât exactly hiding. It was her waiting for the already lost fight to finish to put it in her teamâs favor again. This would typically only consist of 5 seconds out of battle, maybe?
Yes, I prefer her that way. If you hate her you donât have to play her. The E rez is useless midfight, mass rez was useful for those who preferred tempo rez.
I do blame them. I blame them for not adding LOs requirements so she couldnât rez through walls. I blame them for not giving her an E ability instead of invulnerability and I blame them for the moth meta giving her such a bad cred that I am still paying for it today.
i prefer her this way, if you dont like dont play her
see i could say the same
feelings dont matter
sheâs more balanced and less cancer
midfight rez is great and has a lot of carry potential
but people want to make big plays which is something i can understand, but some heros dont have that and i agree with mercy not havung it
I personally disagree, but being in GM and having had around 400 hours on Mercy at that point, I knew how to properly use res, gained extreme amounts of strategy building, game sense, and ult economy tracking, as well as being able to predict exactly when an enemy will ult (I will tell my team when enemy Rein will shatter and almost always, he does, etc etc.), all thanks to Mass Res. It taught me a TON of skills at a higher and more precise level than most players.
It had more strategy behind it than people give credit. But that also depends on how YOU decide to play her. You could play her braindead, or you can play her super strategically and mapping everything out like I did.
But thatâs the magic of this game - you can play any hero braindead. Because Mercy is seen as an entry-level hero, almost all people played and still play her braindead.
