Guys I am going to be real, while the game is still well populated, Overwatch had a unique fanbase. fan comics, fan artists (Shippers too), OW songs too, fanfictions and so on. There was a community also engaged in the lore, but it started slowly diminishing, but in the year OW2 was announced and the game basically said “eff lore for a few years” that part of the fanbase have all but died. Like it’s there, but barely.
Overwatch had made a variety of characters that a huge amount of people liked and even played the game for (not for the gameplay, but for the characters), but that part of the game seems to have died. We had dedicated content creators to voicing comedic or other fan comics that were successful (their channels are dead or moved on)
It feels kinda sad. Like a part of Overwatch has died, and I sometimes watch old content and see how much more there was. Now the game feels dead.
I kinda blame the content drought in terms of lore that OW2 caused.
Well the thing is this game is 5 years old. The Hype around the game has died and thats why most content creators HAD to move on. A lot of them need the money they earn to pay their rents and stuff.
I still remember a Time when Overwatch was the most searched thing on a specific “offbrand” website.
However. A lot of that might come back IF Overwatch 2 manages to create the same hype Overwatch 1 did nack in its days. A lot of content creators from back im those days would love to make more Overwatch content.

Reaper and Soldier: I mean… The writers have been throwing a ball to the shipers saying “they loved eachother” as an official statement. Seems sort of interesting as a dynamic. And the content can be good, except when they turn into a sassy latina woman stereotype. Please none of this.
Gency: Its basically canon at this point.

Generally I wasn’t there for the shipping though. I loved the more comedic ones (I am glad stuff like perfect harmony is still ongoing. its dumb, but I love it), like the series of comics where talon is broke and share the same apartment on rent
OW devs couldn´t make any content, because it took them all resources to remove one tank slot and several maps.
BlizzActivision moneybags thought if they give us anything then people won´t be thirsty enough to buy OW2.
This enormous greed combined with horrible marketing and terrible community managment brought us here.
Look how other big companies treat their fans and what they offer their community.
It´s just sad.
Yes its actually what I meant. find them cringy or not, there used to be more heart to overwatch, now it seems everything is focused around esports, and there is 0 regard to the fanbase
