The cowboy change isn't made for you or for twitter

any report that says they changed the name of a highly popular character, and doesn’t mention the lawsuit isn’t reporting right. The action is for the stockholders. if you find a legitimate news site, gaming or otherwise, that reports on this and doesn’t mention the DFEH suit. You are right. It is a PR move.

Leadership was complacent with sexual abuse and harassment against their employees for years. If they cared about how their employees felt, those abuses would not have happened.

What makes you think they would entertain the idea of changing McCree’s name unless there was some gain to be had, or some loss to be averted, in doing so?

Who’s saying this? Who’s saying anything about the victims besides you?

Those people are being cleared out, and voices that did care but were unable to act or were unaware at being pulled forward. That’s how these things work. That the leadership that are being kicked out didn’t care (and there’s been multiple high level firings including the President JJ Allan Brack) does NOT mean that the people who are left don’t care. That doesn’t follow at all.

Time will tell if this new group cares, but you cannot and should not assume their motivations are the same as the actual harasssers that are being fired. It does not make sense, and is grossly unfair. Blizz is not a monolith. Their actions and time will tell.

Because they are auditing what they can do increase workplace morale right now, and negotiating with employees to make a better work environment. And those types of things often include things that mostly meant to make the employees feel better about working there. Companies love low cost things that will get employees that are so mad that they are doing walkouts back into a happy place. In a way, that’s a financial benefit to the employer. But they are probably looking it at more from a workplace morale and productivity standpoint, rather than the a financial gain standpoint. This is probably viewed as a cost that will be worth it to get over the scandal rather than as profit maker.

I’m sure the leader ship told the employees to destroy evidence, too.

Overwatch team is probably not the people that did that.

Its still blizzard, though. Every branch of it is likely to have the same dudes as overseers in one way or another.

Sure, but it’s also important to remember different teams have their own management and their own employees. The Overwatch team in specific was defended as being much nicer place to work than the other teams within Blizz by the employees. That’s something that’s not insignificant when discussing their sincerity.

…You mean you wonder if you can go out of your way to traumatize people by throwing a continual temper tantrum over someone changing the name of a child’s toy?

For real, if you’re above the age of puberty, you should have a bit more self-reflection than this. If the theme of the game really was inspiring to you, then you would take their post to heart and get behind making what is really a minuscule sacrifice on your part. Not shame on them, shame on you and everyone who doesn’t get that.

The problem with what you say is that you are being willfully ignorant on the matter and you should have a bit more self-reflection than this. What they are doing is even worse, they are giving that person power over them while also creating chaos and confusion for the player base. All while not accomplishing anything other than saving face, they aren’t trying to protect the victims which is the worst part, as they will be constantly reminded of this BY THEIR OWN ACTIONS. If they had chosen to make the name mean something good instead of allowing it to mean something bad then we could all have truly been able to move on, not allow this person to taint the name for the character and every other person who shares this name. They basically took the cowards way out of this situation instead of standing up for it.

Exactly, and most will continue to use his name.

That’s fine. I wasn’t addressing people using his name. I was addressing you demanding the messenger employee use it.

That’s the thing; Activision Blizzard doesn’t have control over how third parties frame this move. I imagine there are/will be a lot of news articles covering this story while referencing the court case. There will also likely be articles that do not. What matters though, is how Blizzard frames it. And as we can see from their announcements, they tiptoe around the lawsuit:

Please, you’ve been around long enough, you should know how forums work.

We make demands, they go ignored for years even when it would have been in their best interests to listen.

I’m honestly amazed some of you are still here, swinging away at the same rock.

He’s actually responding though. He’s actually reading, and multiple threads too. Like he’s actually doing what we’d want him to do in this situation. So we gotta do our part to on the whole “If Blizzard actually listened…” type thing too, let’s be respectful. It’s already probably bad enough he to read us being hard on each other, and deal with this whole thing internally. He’s probably got a lot on his plate.

You wont be missed.

Then he should listen, and realize the name shouldnt change.

This was done for their employees primarily, not for us. They aren’t asking for our vote. They knew you’d be mad and they are here to listen to feedback to how to make this change better, and to give a listening ear to our frustrations.

If a fictional character having the same name as a terrible ex co-worker bothers them so much that they cant work maybe blizz should look into hireing well adjusted adults, because if something thatcsmall bothers them i hate to see how they handle the real world
