Ashe is a better done sniper because her reload is really long but I feel like giving her the force of nature was a mistake.
By having abilities ,that’s it.
Thats the only part of it that’s a MOBA ,yeah it’s a core mechanic but it’s far from being the only one.
It’s not leaning towards being a moba just because of abilities.
Thank you for agreeing that huddling behind shields/corners kind of sucks.
However, you say oneshots have been part and parcel for fps games since the beginning. This is, roughly speaking, true. The important difference is, basically all of these games allowed every player to oneshot. They all had access to various long-range weapons. If you got instakilled in CS, for instance, you probably could have instakilled them first, with enough skill. (for the record I despise CS, guess why)
Meanwhile in Overwatch, twenty-six out of 29 characters are close- to midrange at best. If a sniper is shooting at me, I cannot shoot back, unless I walk back to spawn and use a sniper myself.
In my opinion, Ashe is the ideal sniper for this game. Has the range and precision, but does “only” 85-170 damage per shot, with some fall-off over extreme range - this leaves room to react and doesn’t make entire matches revolve around her. Oneshots are still technically possible with damageboosts.
Without a time machine to make it so widow and hanzo never existed, I’d like them to be more like Ashe. Hanzo gets 180 per headshot and nothing in return, widow gets 190 per headshot, and a better grapple and venom mine in return. This is just my, probably rather biased, opinion.
In CS, you have to fight fire with a stronger fire. You say it’s ok to have one shots there because everyone can pretty much kill you fast enough anyway.
In Overwatch, you can fight fire with a stronger fire (a better sniper), but the game also gives you water to fight with. You have other heroes with kits that are optimal to fighting snipers, such as Genji, Winston, and Sombra. But it goes without saying that snipers should be good against some heroes too.
Ashe can’t be the ideal sniper, because she isn’t one in the first place. No, the ability to aim down sight is not exclusive to snipers, especially if they give you a measely 1.5x - 2.0x magnification, not be able to one shot, and has falloff.
Instakill from range by a precision shot is exactly what a sniper should be able to do. That’s the core principle of sniping. “One shot, one kill”
By making them like Ashe, you are essentially saying you want snipers removed from the game. Glad you actually admit to bias on that one, not many do.
However, I think snipers are very fun and necessary part of the game. Without snipers, GOATS is even a bigger problem, for example. That too, could be classified as bias, but then again, Overwatch pretty much prides itself on having a hero for everyone. And I want my FPS sniper in my FPS game.
I fart in your general direction.
when it comes to one-shots i view it like i do every other fps games, it’s powerful but has a criteria to fullfill, you just have to be proactive about your positioning against it.
if you know they have close range one-shots try not to get caught in close range too much. if they have long range be wary of long sightlines.
but there’s a clear positive and negative for each type of damage dealing and you shouldn’t get upset about it because all they are doing is what they are supposed to do.
I sat down and made a list of the number of abilities that can kill a player outright, or one-hero combos that result in a near instant kill (e.g. McCree’s flash & fan). There’s a bunch of them. Add in CC or multi-hero combos and it’s unreal.
Someone at Blizzard thinks it’s really fun to kill players that are completely disabled. Getting killed by stunlocks has been a common theme in WoW, HotS, Diablo 3, and now Overwatch. And these have been staples of each game, not some temporary imbalance that quickly got fixed.
widowmaker can deal 507 damage with headshots when damage boosted and when the enemy is discorded
of course, nobody thinks the iteraction of discord and damage boost is an issue despite defining previous metas because “teamwork lol”
Amusing, yet immature.
In a practical setting, once you’ve started hitting something it’s less likely you’ll miss the follow up shots if you’re using an automatic weapon. YOu won’t get 100% over the course of the match, or even 50%, but keeping your crosshair on a target for one full second isn’t difficult.
You do know that FB has a range of 10(!!!) meters, right? Test in practice room
7 meter throw at the perfect angle, 2 meter AoE. Max range is only 9 meters. Of course, you can’t fth at that max range
Why don’t you go do exactly what I said?
Test it in practice room. Then get back to me.
They went overboard with damage in this game
One shoting is a thing in FPS games that just the way it is. Not sure why people play FPS and don’t expect weapons that can one shot.
There is almost no FPS games that don’t have weapons that kill in one shot.
I did actually. When McCree is 10 meters away, it misses. At 9, where flashbang is thrown straight out, it hits. The training bot is at the bottom of the line, so you need to stand at the bottom of the 10m line. And again, how are you going to use FtH from 9 meters away?
Use the bot at the end, out next to the cliff. It stands at the 40m line. Standing at 30m you can hit it.
You don’t need FtH, you can use headshot against squishies.
Also, I believe you will have a good chance even with FtH these days, but I haven’t tested. The range is very decent.
That’s where I did it. THat bot stands at the front of the 40m line, so you need to stand at the front (away from the cliff) of the 30 meter line.
According to the forums, it’s McRightClick all over the place
I did. It doesn’t work reliably.
Not at 9 meters
10m.
Don’t make me make a youtube.
Exactly, heals are way too strong to justify slower dmg dealers unless that have a powerful gimmick like dragonblade or emp. I think a potential solution to fix this without necessarily gimping all the healer’s kits is to introduce more forms of anti-heal into the game. Maybe introduce a new tank which applies a -30% healing debuff or something.
