Throwing a $40 bundle without specifying the worth (or even the nature) of its components is, inter alia, a way to measure the reaction of the community and the involvement of the average OW gamer.
The commercial staff at Team 4 are smart people.
We just learned today that the 2k credits in the pack are enough to buy the following two seasons of battle pass.
40 bucks to get 2 exclusive skins and 3 guaranteed seasons of battle pass is a phenomenal deal, considering each battle pass will also earn you currency that could be used to buy those same passes (traditionally, that’s how the format works- if you complete the pass you can buy the next one with the currency earned from it).
That puts one season of the battle pass at about 10 dollars, probably. You essentially pre-purchased 3 guaranteed passes, or a safety net to fall back on if you don’t earn enough by playing. Seems fine to me.
Yeah i heard about that.
Seems like a fair price if true. We still miss few details though.
I was more thinking about the possible thought process behind making such a move initially.
Offering a quick catch-up bundle for new players who aren’t already OW1 players, and giving enough value to get established players to buy it?
I bought the Watchpoint Pack today ![]()
I still wish they would show what kind of rewards we can expect from the battlepass. If theres a mythic skin for tier 100 and you can break even or profit on credits from the battlepass I’d buy it right now, but my expectations are low. It’s probably gonna be epic skins and charms at best. There’s also the issue of how grindy it is
That was the initial impression for you? Even before knowing any details?
yea this is my take on it too. Jon Spector brought OWL back from the brink and is far too smart to screw up a product release without some good underlying reason.
I think they said you pay for Mythic skins directly. Makes sense as it’s going to be something that they put a LOT of time and effort into with all the unique VFX/ultimate animations, different weapons, color schemes, etc.
Throwing it into the 10$ battle pass would be a big profit loss for them
I knew the battlepass would be around $10, since the closest competitor (Halo) charges this much for season passes. Figure $10 for battlepass, $20 for two skins, $10 for Overwatch 1, and free player icon and beta access, you’re already at $40.
LOL so you guys really think they would smear the debut of PVP OW 2 with a crank kit with poor value? Really? What do they get out of it exactly?
Considering that the pack is probably $10 I would be VERY surprised if there were currency in it to unlock the next one. Usually I would assume $20 when given that deal but then again it also comes down to what is in the BP. If the mythic skin is in the BP I would say there is a near 0% chance you can get premium currency in it because that skin is the prize and that skin is worth $40+ in other games.
Yeah i was thinking they’d be something like $20-$30 similar to the legendary league skins, hopefully they have a discount shop if that’s the case cause I can’t really justify spending that much on skin in a game
Speculation. Could be 15 or 20.
According to?
The actual price before the event is 20 (or 25). And they could’ve consider it a giveaway because no one will buy OW1 after the event.
Things that cost 0$ normally.
+You know nothing about the pricing scheme in OW2
+You knew nothing about the virtual currency
I don’t know what to tell you man, if you want to believe that Blizzard is trying to scam you after fundamentally damaging their only successful IP in the last 15 years, go wild.
I didn’t expect that Blizzard would give us $10 worth of content for $40, which would be a scam.
So you consider a social experiment a scam?
All of ow 1 was a fair price too…we technically got a lot for our money. Like years of content. But the community doesn’t like to acknowledge that too often lol
This was asked many times in the AMA and they refused to answer if currency would be in the battlepass. Show your source of this information.
So tired of this “huurrrr … ItZ SpeKuLaTioN” nonsense. It’s really not.
Just admit y’all mad as hell over not getting in beta full time and mad about anyone who bought the pack.
they refused to answer if currency would be in the battlepass.
I wouldn’t expect people to be able to play OW2 for free if they grind hard enough, because as soon as you open that door people will figure out how to become power-grinding bots.
APL does apparently let you earn currency to unlock new heroes by playing the game, which is probably where people are drawing the “you can just pay for the battlepasses by playing” conclusion from.
