Thank you for the many enjoyable years of Overwatch

Hey guys,
Firstly this is meant in the highest respect and more of a way for me to get the last bit of vent out of my system before laying this game to rest.

2017 Anniversary of Overwatch
I first joined after a drunken night at my friend’s place, he introduced me to Overwatch and I was hooked, as soon as I got home I bought the game and would play every single day, it was nothing like the games I was used to!
There wasn’t a thing I disliked about the game, I would spend weeks exploring new options and ultimately found my pride and joy Reinhardt. Nothing felt as rewarding as pulling off a six man shatter and hearing everyone in the voice coms scream with excitement as we found ourselves climbing through Platinum to Diamond.

Overwatch has had its hard times, Brig really took the game by storm, Bap’s immortality felt cheap and not to mention some funky formats like Goats had managed to make its way into most games. Many of us have lived through it all and it has mentally branded us with PTSD but we loved the game enough that we made it work, we looked for ways around these things and that’s where a great deal of fun also came from, problem solving.
Problem solving has become less and less of an aspect, Character’s ultimate now come at no cost, Moira and Roadhog are the prime examples, abilities are now becoming far over tuned such as Mauga becoming a near cc immune truck running at your team, Kiri being able to cleanse two ultimates in the span of seconds with just her abilities and the OG characters that required skill are slowly losing their identity becoming nothing more than a pick to trigger your own team mates.

Some will call it nostalgia but the game isn’t what it used to be, the community are hard driven to report anything they find remotely offensive like you dying a bit too much or requesting a swap, the characters identities only remain in the cinematics we fell in love with 5+ years ago and games don’t feel fun let alone rewarding.

In a poorly written way what I mean to say is it’s time I stepped away from the game I once loved and to stop expecting it to go back.
Thank you to the Devs who work on trying to improve the game, coming from an era where patches were a rare occasion seeing them apply days each other to maintain balance is a dream come true!
After the latest blog it was made clear that the 6v6 format was no longer viable due to stress on the new engine, this was an indicator that I need to stop clinging to straws and forcing myself to play a version of the game I dislike hoping for it to change, it’s unhealthy and the blog has given me a good amount of clarity that I don’t need to keep hoping for a change because I now know the its direction.

I’m wishing everyone the best and I want to thank you if you read this, again it wasn’t a rant or a slam, I just wanted to type my mind out, like a pyre to clear any emotion to the end of something.

Honestly, I’m heavily considering abandoning this game after this season is over. I’ll probably keep track of updates or whatever through KarQ and see if anything meaningful actually happens.

Because I was right there with you. My friends invited me to play the game with them during a free to play weekend, that was back in like 2016/2017. I bought the game and played it religiously. Probably put about 40 hours in a week to comp and farmed the crap out of events.

But with Overwatch 2, there is no reward, only constant misery and I’m coming to accept this, hard as it is to let go. When the most reward you get is an overpriced cosmetic for $20-80 (so at the cost of bankrupting yourself), then it’s time to let go.

Give Marvel Rivals a try. It looks like something you might enjoy.

Hey AgtMaryLand I feel you! Yeah time has certainly aged the game and it has greatly changed, I hope you can find the answer to your decision, being in limbo really is stressful.

Hey Konstas thanks for the reply, haha you caught me red handed already, I’ve fallen in love with Luna Snow and already soaked hours into the game!

It looks like cheap trash and the 3rd person perspective just highlights how jumping all the time looks dumb and lame.

If you think it competes in any way with peak OW 1 then you aren’t a fan of OW because it was the best objective based hero shooter team game out there, but only a fan for the character designs.

Hey EnglishBob I think this is an unfair approach, at the end of the day it’s a very enjoyable game and I do suggest giving it a go!
I wasn’t a fan of the 3rd person aspect but it works and with how some characters swing, twist and turn it’s the best way to keep an idle camera.
We’re all fans of Overwatch hence why we played it and no one is discrediting OW1, it’ll forever be in our hearts, but branching out doesn’t make anyone less of a fan also, sometimes a fresh scenery is what we need.
But yeah give it a go, it’s still in alpha so it obviously has some flaws and understandable why you’d feel it’s janky but overall it has a its thrill.
