TF2 is outliving even Overwatch

Not another TF2 vs OW threads.
Anyway I didn’t played the game from a while because cheaters, still fun to play and people there are very friendly

They also nerfed shields hard making demoknight useless

Demo got a fat nerf in general and thank god for that

Most games that can be modded tend to outlive their intended lifespan by years or even decades. As do games with competitive aspects. Both Super Smash Bros Melee and Brawl (Project M) are examples of things living way longer because of competition/mods.

OW’s inclusion of the Workshop is their way of allowing us to partly mod the game without actually having to be game/computer savvy.

Care to elaborate? When is the spy not viable?

TF2 has always been better than Overwatch. It’s more community based. I for one never really have played TF2 alone, but my boyfriend and I play together every once in a while and its certainly less stress inducing than Overwatch is, and we find ourselves playing longer.

Here in Germany we have a funny turn of speech:

“Totgesagte leben länger.”

It means that someone who is proclaimed to be (as good as) dead will actually have a longer life :woman_shrugging:

Only t1 is owned by huge corporations.
T4 is basically every organized team
T3 you need to get a number of top places in tournaments. Or come in top 32 in OD.
T2 contenders level.
T1 owl and owwc.

The main issue with tf2 esports is that you can’t make a living off of tournaments in that game, especially for the time requirements.

money is also an issue for t3/4 teams but at least that goes away once you reach t2/1

Means it’s failing hard and can lead into a dead game, but knowing this company not likely. Blizzard can bounce back once whatever weight is holding them back “cough E-sport focus and Activision”

These are all fairly niche, though. The majority of the player base has left the game because these wren’t really all that compelling for the average player. Much in the same way that Overwatch has some popular workshop/custom games (with some wildly loyal players), but they make up like 0.01% of the players, if that. The players who remain in TF2 probably did stay because of a lot of this stuff, but it’s not going to bring back the other 90% of the player base who left 7 years ago.

The classes got reworked quite a bit, actually. So I’m not sure what you mean.

Plus it’s a lot different because you have teams of 12 with only 9 classes available. Just statistically you’re likely to have one or two of every class on your team which makes it very difficult to end up in cases where one team has harder counters to your team comp.

I’m not really sure I’d say it’s “doing well.” There’s always a loyal fan base for most games, especially those that were once quite popular. But I’ve tried playing TF2 a few times over the last couple years and the base game, at least, was essentially dead. After 10+ minutes in queue for some of the most popular maps and game modes it would put me in half filled servers and then half of those players would leave.

Meanwhile blizzard was astroturfing the hell out of the comp scene since day one.

Pretty much both companies in a nut shell go like this:

Valve thinks more about balance, and actually balances correctly (Most of the time, i’m not saying always, because they nerfed the Bison when it was already a crud weapon, so.) while content is slower.

Blizzard/Activision think about new content to keep players in the game and spend money, and doesn’t balance very well or is just poorly done and they don’t care.

You don’t really need workshop to add new maps into game. You can host TF2 server, using free software from Steam, and players joining it will automatically download your custom maps, sounds and other content from your server. You don’t have to register it, get permissions, etc. unless you want your map to become part of official map pool.

im going back to minecraft

exactly this. from within the first year, TF2 allowed the community to make maps and host their own servers and run them they way they want to. 12 ppl, 24 ppl or even 32 ppl … custom maps with 5 CPS … even modified default maps to make them larger or smaller or even better …brand new game modes (hide n seek, prop hunt, zombies, etc) … complete admins tools to kick, mute and ban players from their servers … multiple clan servers …

sorry, but even as old as it is, TF2 is still the better game when it comes to community support.

Oh look, we got a broken and unused LFG … thanks. Yeah, endorsement system … crap. Workshop … meh, 12 people use it.

OW is severely lacking in several areas that could easily make this better yet they refuse over and over. or give us something that no one cares for or needs …

Some problems with what you said

TF2 doesnt have tracers and genjis dashing all over the screen, doesnt have sombras teleporting arround invisible either, this is Why CC In overwatch is necesary

Essentially your saying remove the whole special feature of OW…None of the ultimates are “press q to win” For each Q the enemy has, you also have your own, a lot of ultimates can flop and fail

None of these two do too much

I mean thats because the official game was meant to be 12v12, not 6v6, this is not about blaancing arround the highest level, but adding a gamemode that the game was not designed to sustain

thatsl ike adding 12v12 to overwatch, a lot of heroes would be weak, or OP,

Yeah, because most blizzard games don’t level off with a hardcore commited fans base at the end of their life cycles…Wait that is not right.

Overwatch will end up just like TF2 when it’s time comes. It just has fallen to the last stage of it’s life cycle yet

Are you kidding me the queue for 2fort is like 5 seconds at any given time.

I wouldnt touch 2fort with a 10 ft pole. That map is pure trash and I cant fathom why anyone likes it.
