It’s been so long since I played rq tank pretty much only can play: ram, sig, orisa, mauga and I think a good Dva and hog(ish) can work. Purely if I want to win it seems.
I’ve never considered Junkerqueen a real 5v5 tank and the rest of them obviously can work if your team makes up for their shortcomings but overall this pretty much seems to be the deal with randoms.
I know so many players complain about tank but at this point there’s no sense in being stubborn about it. Again purely if you want a better chance at winning. My 2 cents
And I know it’s basically throwing but I appreciated my first match being against another ram just kept running at him all game idc
Sure but nothing about her has ever said tank to me except the shout but I guess you could argue the same for Mauga. The mini guns are a lot more fun than the shotgun if I’m gonna go that big DPS route. I love Zarya with another tank it beats having to play chicken all the time with my bubbles being solo.
JQ really is a monster with the right Supports and a good use of her abilities. She survives a lot longer than you really think she should and it’s nuts that they only made her better.
With Zarya you really don’t have to play chicken as much as you need to recognize when you’ve got solid support and can walk into a ton of damage, bubble, and melt everyone on the opposing team. A good Zarya with good heals really is one of the most obnoxious things in game.
Tanking right now really does require GOOD support and support protection though, otherwise you’ll die a lot. One of the biggest crimes I see in tanks is the lack of awareness of who, where, and what’s going on with their supports. Like I’m sure you’re aware, but I’ve been playing Ana lately and i can’t tell you how many times tanks walk out of my line of sight and die and complain when THEY messed up.
You’ll get a Mauga up to about half health then they suddenly have a stroke and charge not only into the center of the enemy team but out of line of sight and INSTANTLY die.
Then you will see that blue text pop up “Intank:???”
It makes me want to grief and not heal them lol I run into this a lot with DPS too, like mate, come near me or in my line of sight if you want heals, or just find health packs and get heals when you can. ESPECIALLY as Ana, I’m not going to be your backpack healer, I’m far away for a reason lol
I partially blame they fact that the most popular/meta healers have more mobility so everyone has gotten spoiled with things like tp+suzu or moira fading in to dump all her heally juice.
What is even crazier is thay while playing ana 3-4 of the enemy team are all actively diving you and some how your teammates are all fixated on the one lucio that is skating circles around them.
All while your screams are an echo in the background.
On no planet is holding M1 + M2 and pointing at the enemy tank while supports pump everything into you, funner than JQ’s fast aggressive brawl.
Mauga is only fun when you alternate your guns at squishies at mid range and I never get tired of lasering pharahs as mauga, but playing like that isn’t optimal when you can just pump bullets into the enemy tank and never die.
Are you kidding, there are no screams or indication of your death and then you get a “Thanks” as people die or “I need healing” and “Ana you &%*$ing suck, heal me” it’s great life
As Ana I love playing into Maugas lol many overextend and can be slept, ignored, anti-ed, and killed by me or my whole team. he’s also a lot of fun to play, but I can say I’m immensely glad they nerfed him.
I’m typically in comms when I play, but I’ll make sure to ask “supps where are you” next time I’m playing so I don’t lose sight of em. Thanks for the tip
All of your supports will appreciate that, often times it’s realized too late because the tank is busy being dove on, but if you don’t see players on the frontline it’s safe to assume that they’re in your backline. Also taking note of who you’re up against helps a lot to so you can be mentally prepared to turn around and help out. It all depends on a lot though, their skill, yours, the DPS skill etc etc, but I will say it’s very much appreciated by supports across the board to see your DPS especially sticking with you to help because many won’t engage at that point and then also counterswapping to even attempt to stop the incoming pressure, even if they aren’t your main, many will be sure to keep you alive as well (at least I most certainly do).
The thing about Tanking is that it’s Uber hard to manage both a Frontline and a backline when your second DPS won’t even try to help. I’ll CounterWatch all day long even if it makes me want to die, but if the supps are getting dove and I can’t break away and our other DPS is being a Selfish Steve, the supps die and five seconds later you see the blue text…
“Tank?”
But the thing is, is that I’ll definitely make sure to start asking where they are. I usually keep more or less in the open so they can see me, and I can mitigate any damage that comes my way.
