Tank mains and supports

Mains: Ram, JQ, Winston
I’ll break them out sometimes: D.Va, Rein, Hazard, Sigma, Zarya, Doom

Supports I prefer alongside: Kiriko, Juno, Bap, Brig, Lucio
Neutral: Others
Avoid: Moira, sometimes Mercy drops here

I’ve got a lot of time on Support, so I’m not all that picky. I know that most of them are earnestly trying to help, and it’s not the easiest job at times. But that also influences who I don’t want to see. Moira players in general just aren’t all that helpful or are even trying to help, and at best, they’re just being Bap without the utility or execution requirements. It’s like the coin toss of what type of Lucio or Brig or even Kiriko you’re gonna get, but heavily skewed to the negative end. In Mercy’s case, I don’t inherently have a problem with her or her players, outside of the ones that are clearly only there to make their duo relevant. I just think the pick puts a lot of pressure on what the other support has to do, speaking as the person that has had to play as that other support for a long time. They at least mean well and want to actually play the role, though.

I honestly don’t have an issue with LW, and have even been breaking him out in my support games as of late. I think the main things are that he’s not easy to get even decent value out of, and Life Grip is not only difficult and not designed very well, but it’s VERY visible when a mistake is made. So to me, it’s more of a Bap-styled issue where the pilots are just very prone to error while learning them, and the resulting value you feel as a teammate varies a ton. Just like Bap though, I’m a huge fan of being with one that’s mostly got it together.

I rarely get these personally. I usually get ones that are passive and use grip at poor times. I’ve lost games because I was pulled at the wrong times like off the point with 50% HP in Overtime when I’m the only one on the point.

But I’m also thinking that grip benefits some tanks more. I can see grip being great for Ball. If the enemy goes to chain CC him then yoink! Kinda interesting to see the different perspectives.

As dva i like having Juno, Kiriko, Moira, Ana or Bap, but overall someone who can land their heals while im zooming around

As Ram lucio isnt that bad for boost but then again i rather have Juno Kiri for the boost and cleanse

I play every tank to some degree, but I have a bias towards dive tanks. If I had to pick one, my favourite support to be healing me would be Brigitte. Obviously she doesn’t pump out crazy tank heals, but she’s the most reliable at keeping my backline stable.

It doesn’t really matter if Ana or Juno can pump out 100 HPS if they’re dead or have to abandon me to fight a flanker, and Brig is the best at preventing/minimizing that.

I find this interesting. I have always thought of Moira as a solid pairing with DVa. You can dump massive heals into her, fade to close distance (or reposition if you’re following), use the healing orb when she’s way out front, and DVa is a great target for coal.

For the reverse question, I play a lot of Bap and Moira, so I prefer brawl tanks, where I can stay close and keep them alive. I do okay on Bap healing a dive tank from range, but it’s easy to miss a shot and have the tanks die.

Moira is way better in classic than now, especially without the DPS passive. I can keep a team alive and melt flankers so much more.

Maybe I’ve just been lucky! Or am in better Elos than I give myself credit for (despite seeing what certain teammates pass off as decision-making :face_with_diagonal_mouth:)

This has happened to me literally once or twice and it FeelsBad but hopefully I’ve seen way more good.

It is super interesting! But like I doubt any tank mains hate Ana (on their own team…) which leads me to believe other supports need major buffs, or what should be more prudent is they nerf that old bat into the pillar of salt that she is. Never gonna happen, but a guy can dream.

It’s mostly because it’s a coin flip if you get a Moira doing what you are talking about or the flank Moira who is constantly in the enemy backline and not really healing you consistently. I don’t reliably get Moiras focused on supporting me but instead trying to trade backlines, so that’s why I’ve got her there. But a good Moira is good with D.Va.

Nah man its not even a contest. They grab you when you’re critical of cd, even if critical on tank is waay above the break points of whatever enemy you’re currently fighting and you have a cd to mitigate several hundred damage. They panic grab you when they’re critical as you’re trading backlines. They grab you out of fireball 0.2s away from a mega, literally cc’ing you in a way worse spot then when you where in.

Its a none issue in comp becsuse i only get diamond or higher supps so 95% of pulls are good or great. But getting backfilled into a qp game with lower rank supps? Way worse then any other bad supp. But its qp so who cares.

I generally play a lot of Junker Queen, but I also like Winston, Zarya and Ramattra.

I don’t have any personal preference to what my team plays - they can play whoever they want to play, no skin off my nose.

Junker Queen - especially recently - tends to be my preferred choice because of all the self-healing. My supports, no matter who they play, tend to be healing less than I do; so the self-healing I get from playing Junker Queen, seems to relieve a lot of pressure from them.

Sides’ that, I tend to carry my games, and if I can’t, there’s very little likelihood of winning the game anyway.

for tank i play zarya alot, for support well…

My tank pick varies from game mode and map or just what I’m in the mood for in general.

I play a lot of JQ, Ram or Sigma, but I’m getting up my Mauga and Hazard playtime. I find Hazard a lot better since Mauga got nerfed.

Not a fan of playing as D.Va and Zarya bores me outside of 6v6. Doomfist can be fun and I’m good with him, but I rarely get teams that’ll work with me over a Winston. My Wrecking Ball is better in 6v6 just because otherwise every stun under the sun will hit you.

For supports on my team I do and don’t like it’s more which pairing than overall single character. I’ve won with odd pairings before like Brigitte Lifeweaver as Junkerqueen on Circuit Royal or Zenyatta Illari as Rammatra on Mid town.

But Lifeweaver and Mercy is not a great support comp. Half the time you’ll be begging for better utility or heals while the enemy team has both and more lol.

Why would anyone want to tank in this game? And even if some masochistic individual could be persuaded, why the would they also play support? I pity teh foo.

I guess I’m just not as infuriated by them as much as I am allied Mercy and Zen players, who are arguably more popular so I would see them and be mad at them more.

I think I can count truly bad LW pulls I’ve gotten over the past week on one hand. :person_shrugging:

I don’t even know, playing support is like throwing dices and see what kind of player I get.
And because of my exposure to the most toxic dps players me I swore on my heart never to be a main dps.
So now I’m stuck here

Moira is genuinely awesome to play in classic.
