If he had died first on Cassidy his team would have had a better chance of turning around the fight compared to his Rein dying first.
But, how do DPS characters even have an effect on the outcome of the fight if Tanks don’t first create a good opening to the fight? Rein’s death in the beginning of the video was unquestionably the reason why they lost point. The DPS could do nothing to save the fight at that point, because the Tank fed.
I don’t necessarily disagree that DPS value rises as a fight progresses, but DPS heroes can’t get value if their Tanks don’t first put them in a situation to get value. It starts with Tanks. Tanks have the largest effect on the outcome of a fight, because if they don’t put their team in a position to win the fight the fight is already lost. DPS heroes are capable of not doing a whole lot for a good portion of the beginning of the fight and still getting their desired value. If Tanks don’t do their job from the start, there is no midfight for DPS to take advantage of.
That’s my point. Maybe you were talking about yourself in 3rd person saying “He has a history of doing things like this”? I’m not sure.
Cassidy couldn’t do anything once his Rein died, even though he was hitting some really good shots, it didn’t matter. However if he had died on Cassidy & Rein lived instead, his team would’ve had a better chance to turn the tide of the fight because Tanks have a greater effect on the outcome of winning a fight than DPS do. That’s the whole point
What are you even talking about. Electro replied to me saying that I’m looking way too into things, but I’m not even looking too much into things at all. You clearly have a history of making posts like these, where you try to make cassidy look worse than he actually is. I.e “Look look, cassidy wasn’t played in one OWL match!”
And you how do you know the rein didn’t die because of him going on a flank? That pressure onto the enemies brawl could have actually saved him. But no, instead you blame the character.
I don’t see how saying Cassidy wasn’t played in a single OWL match “makes him look worse than he actually is”
Considering the devs are thinking about buffing him… maybe he really isn’t as good as the forums think he is? I don’t claim to know. I’m no expert.
Flanking for a few seconds in hotel was the right play. There’s really no reason his Reinhardt should have died that quickly. His Reinhardt played too aggressive.
I don’t think Cassidy necessarily needed this buff, in fact I’m surprised he got it. And Cassidy is my most played hero since launch
This is true. It all starts with tanks. Without good tank play you’re pretty much doomed from the start. DPS often can’t get value if their tanks aren’t getting value first, unless you’re playing someone like Widow or Hanzo who can hit 1 shot that kills someone from across the map
Yes you are. It’s called cherry picking.
Same with this original post.
The devs are insanely wrong it’s not even funny
It’s so obvious they use winrate because it fits their narrative. That’s why they buffed cassidy but nerfed ball despite ball having a low winrate.
Neither is the balance team. This patch does NOTHING to the meta, except makes the strong DPS stronger, and make reinhardt insanely cheesy.
It didn’t work at all. If the cassidy sticked to the frontline the enemy rein would be pressured and not able to swing so much on his rein.
Stating Cassidy wasn’t picked a single time in OWL is an observation worth discussing considering some people think he is absurdly overpowered…
I posted a Cyx video where he says he feels unimpactful on DPS compared to Tank… not sure what your issue is with that. You don’t have to agree, feel free to express your disagreement on why you think DPS are equally or more impactful than Tanks. This is a discussion forum after all. For some reason you seem bent on discussing things other than the actual topic and are referring to other threads & unrelated topics for some reason…
Cassidy standing behind his Reinhardt would not have prevented his Reinhardt from taking all the damage he apparently decided to take in those few short seconds. Reinhardt played too aggressively, Cassidy couldn’t have changed that, and shouldn’t be forced to sit behind his Rein if flanking hotel was the right play.
Yea, the tide of the match turned drastically once Cyx swapped off Cassidy to Mei. She just has so much more space control & utility than he does, particularly on Kings Row. It was a great match if you watched it.
Who here has said DPS have no impact? I didn’t see Cyx or anyone here say that. While Cyx does feel like he has less impact on DPS, I don’t think he or anyone here has suggested that DPS have no impact. That would mean they aren’t contributing anything at all.
Tanks can do their best to put their team in a position to win, but if their team doesn’t capitalize on that then you will probably lose
That’s not an effect on the outcome of the fight directly, it’s indirectly effecting it. Once the fight is won or lost, then the outcome has been decided.
Mm, same here. Curious to see if Mauga does drop in with something similar to “bloodlust” for the team.
You’re probably not looking at this in the right way. If you’ve ever played an RPG or an MMO, or Dungeons and Dragons, you know that the classes or characters offered tend to provide more than just damage to their team. Look at FF14’s Dragoon, a damage-oriented class/job that also provides support functions with abilities like Battle Litany and Right Eye of the Dragon.
Or you can look at Rogues who tend to provide the ability to pick locks or find traps, or Rangers who can track different targets. It’s not just simply high end damage they provide to the team, but useful abilities or skill sets that bring them value outside of combat, or in situations where combat is required they enhance the effort.
Overwatch made the unfortunately mistake of designing too many heroes in the Offense-role to just deal damage and offer little to no support or utility to help the team. The Defense-role heroes tended have more utility and control options than others (See Hanzo and Widow’s Recon abilities, Junkrat’s traps, Mei’s… whole kit, and Torbjorn’s armor packs). Of the few Offense-role heroes that did offer support or utility (Deflect… Biotic Field and others) some of them ended up being regulated as being limited in their usefulness, or their utility just didn’t contribute as much on the greater whole than needed to.
Which then brings up issues with the Tanks in Overwatch and how they just do everything on par with Damage-role heroes (damage output) and just nullify everything else defensively (barriers, fortify, ultimates like Earthshatter, Gravity Surge, etc). Mei has got one of those really powerful ultimates that can shut down entire teams in a single area, but lacks the immediacy of Earthshatter’s disabling knockdown. And this is fairly true with a number of ultimates and similar abilities in the game. Look at the mobility options provided to the Damage-role, then look at how Supports are just better at it, and how one Tank added later into the game just completely blows away all other heroes in terms of speed. So Overwatch is running into a situation where your Damage-role heroes just can’t compete with all the perks given to the Tanks or Supports, even if they did offer (on rare occasion) some kind of utility. Sombra is the most utilitarian damage-role hero in the game, and yet she’s barely played at the competitive level. Why take her when you can pick a Tank who can be just as disabling as her, have twice as much health, and the capability to one-shot non-Tanks?
Damage role doesn’t really need more damage to be impactful, they needed abilities that they could offer to the team beyond just damage. Any time they did, it was either taken away (as is the case with Torbjorn) or came with some stipulations.
Sombra is a good example, while can Hack and EMP, and has high damage per second, she lacks the ability of most Damage-role heroes in having a controlled burst. So much of what she does is damage over time on targets. Her kit’s design is based around the idea of indirect confrontation and avoiding it whenever possible. In OW2’s early tests, they gave her the ability to do more damage to hacked targets. Which apes Zenyatta’s Discord effect. Not really a bad idea, but adds another damage-boosting effect (the ability to hack while stealthed is overkill, however). This isn’t a bad idea, but with so many other heroes available in the game that can offer damage-boosts and other support options, is it really helpful for Sombra to have a similar effect with Hack/EMP? That’s something we’ll have to wait and see; but it definitely shows some efforts to address Damage-role heroes and their relevancy.
For a team-dependent as this game is, flexing can definitely win you games when you switch to the right the team needs. But this can also further the argument about relevancy within the roster and especially those in the Damage-role.
Tanks aren’t weak at the moment, dude. Numbers haven’t gone up for a solid year.
Issue is more on the map design than it is on Mei. King’s Row is especially notorious for having a payload run more than half the map through and 8 meter wide path, than even Tanks struggle to fit in.
Yes that’s called cherry picking. Do you know mercy 2.0 wasn’t picked 1% of the time in OWL? Must not be absurdly overpowered. You could literally make the same argument that you did.
Clearly not because you mentioned how he swapped to mei and instantly won. Mei is in the DPS role? No?
Actually yes. If the cassidy pressured the frontline the enemy rein wouldn’t have been able to swing on their rein so he would have survived. Heck, just the pressure of flashbang would be enough.
Moth meta Mercy wasn’t even picked 1% of the time in OWL? That’s really surprising considering how OP she was. Do you have a link for that?
Well lets be clear, he didn’t “instantly win”, but yes… Mei is in the DPS role. That doesn’t change the point being made…that he feels like he feels unimpactful on DPS compared to Tank even when he’s doing good. He never said you can’t have impact on DPS… no one did.
Cyx’s Reinhardt died near instantly from a whole lot more than just a Reinhardt swing. Reinhardt somehow died near instantly with a 1600hp shield & 500hp. A Cassidy standing behind him or even flashbanging would not change that, clearly the Rein misplayed.
Honestly knowing that OP still enjoys the game & has a better grasp on the game & balance compared to the people you think are “dunking on OP” is even sweeter While others are getting salty… OP is having a great time Nothing better than that. Oh wait, it does get better. Not only is OP still enjoying the game, but OP is also excited for OW2 because it looks like it’s going to be awesome. Meanwhile those who you think are “dunking on OP” seem pretty miserable & like they’re going to hate OW2… now that is a chef’s kiss.
Here you go https://dashreset.com/heroes/owl-2018/week-6
Go through OWL 2018, week 6 is the highest mercy ever got, with a 99% PR. She never hit 100%.
He only said that while he was on Cassidy.
Neither of us could know since the cassidy was in the hotel room. We could not see what was going on. But I bet the pressure from the cassidy in the front line would have helped the rein survive.
I misunderstood what you were saying. I thought you were claiming Mercy 2.0 wasn’t even picked 1% of the time I was like there’s no way…
But he didn’t mention Cassidy specifically. He said DPS as a role.
Just watch the video… you can see Reinhardt through the wall… the Reinhardt died with close to full shield HP literally 10 seconds after the game started while only being in LOS of the enemy team for maybe 3 of those seconds. The enemy team did not have a team comp capable of burning through 1600HP of shields and 500hp of Rein within the 3s that they were in LOS of dealing damage to him, he didn’t use his shield properly and the Dva on Cyx’s team didn’t defense matrix her Rein so he’d survive while he swung, which again shows how much of an effect Tanks have on the outcome of the fight/game. Cyx could do nothing to save his Rein there.
