Taimou drama — your thoughts?

Yet more drama from these OWL kids with potty mouths and no maturity. Another perfect example of why OWL is a fail.

people are asking the world to be something it’s not a safe place and really I don’t really care about something that insignificant in a pro video game players life my what I care about in a overwatch players life is how good he plays everything is completely irrelevant

Probably just like every other person of that age. Talks about stuff, people, things etc.

We shouldn’t judge people on a personal level simply because we disagree with a few things they have said. People are far too willing to ignore the “opinion” aspect and just jump on what is said because they dont like it and shame them for it.

Which to me is wrong.

“Professional” is a strong word for these guys. They are just popular streamers slapped together.

Their rules are all over the place, and OWL isn’t fun to watch when you see the same heroes in every match and half of the matches are blowouts

Pol Pot writes a scathing critique on government brutalities and human rights violations in Soviet Russia under Joseph Stalin, thereby absolving Stalin of any wrong doing, because Pol Pot is just as bad, if not worse.

Makes sense.

It’s really making me regret ‘picking’ the Fuel as my team - though the decision is pretty arbitrary. At the time I was into xQc’s streams and got a couple of their OWL skins with Blizzard balance from birthday money… Hog and Winston. Now I wish I could just refund them to get 2 more Dynasty skins I don’t own since I’m getting Dynasty skins with all free tokens - have gotten 400 free tokens so far between the initial/setup and watching OWL.

But I think I may need to choose another team to watch… maybe the Outlaws. I like Fuel’s color scheme but the players are really turning me off (not all of course). I really wish I could get my 200 tokens back and get 2 different skins.

Why doesn’t the new generation have a reason to be upset about it? It shouldn’t be socially acceptable to say something like that just because you used to say it on the playground, there’s plenty of things that we used to say that aren’t acceptable anymore, and ffs that should be one of them.

How exactly is OWL a failure when they consistently get 100k viewers per stream on Twitch?

It isn’t a failure, but that doesn’t mean that Overwatch League, and esports as a whole, shouldn’t be cleaning up its act.

And i didn’t say it shouldn’t. I’m just questioning how he can call it a fail, when it seems to be doing pretty well.

taimou is taking time to react to it accordingly to his twitter:

I myself am not an Overwatch League superfan, so I don’t have a horse in that race. My particular interest in the conversation and the ongoing drama surrounding the league is watching how the community reacts to Blizzard and Activision’s ongoing efforts to curb esports’ long-standing GamerBro toxicity in the effort to achieve mainstream recognition. Popularity itself does not seem to be sufficient, and so the viewership isn’t relevant to the price of tea.

Translation – “No”. And I doubt that he intends to stop using such language as well.

Hard to believe people actually want to watch streams and even pay money to someone who casually lets that sort of stuff slip when someone annoys him.

yea… i honestly think taimou is worse than xQc.
just go to youtube and search for “envyUS taimou calling his viewer” … there is srsly something wrong with that guy.

I agree. It is a bad sign for your league if you have to ask, when hearing about a player, “is that the homophobe or the racist?”. It is an even more forceful accusation when that answer is “yes”.

I think there is something pretty wrong with xQc too, but I still enjoy his streams from time to time. That’s why I also became a Fuel fan, that and their color scheme which makes most of their skins look sick. Aside from the Dynasty skins of course.

Frankly, OWL pros should have their streams monitored by a PR team. These teams have so much money being thrown into them, but nobody thought to pay attention to what a 21 year old does on the internet without a filter?

A lot of these guys are pricks, I’ll say that outright. But they’re also all so young, and so out of their element. I don’t think a single one of them knew what they were getting into by joining the OWL. They all need the help of some actual PR/TV/Sports professionals before they can be expected to handle themselves professionally.

taimou has long been my least favourite professional player, and you only really need to look up his liquipedia to figure out why. at least xqc has the “excuse” of having a mouth moving faster than his brain.

that said he doesn’t bring quite as much negative PR as xQc does so i don’t really expect anything other than a slap on the wrist.

also don’t really see how tweets from ~5 years ago are meant to discredit what is a very recent incident, but that’s just me

Most people I know managed to grow up without calling people racial or sexist slurs. As for this being a “new generation” thing, it’s not. It’s just a lot easier to call people out for their poor behavior now and women/minorities are much more comfortable doing so.
