Symmetra should get small lock-on like Moira

Syms beam is already the same as Moira’s. Neither lock, big hitbox. It’s just the animation that’s different

I’ll try this out right now and get back to you.

Or you could git gut and learn how to aim or learn that her secondary fire is her primary fire while her primary fire is mainly good at melting barriers. Only buff I say she needs is a buff to the range of her primary fire.

people saying “moira doesn’t have a lock-on, just a huge hitbox” as if lock-ons don’t have huge hitboxes. :joy:

Pretty sure bending behind walls and getting glued to enemies out of range doesn’t fall in hitbox category.

It’s a straight beam with a large hitbox… We know this because once it leaves this hitbox range the beam breaks, unlike a lock-on beam which does not.

Just tested this out - go to practice range and try Moira on the bots - aim to the left of the bot then move sightly towards it until it locks on. Then try the same with Symmetra - you will 100% notice the difference. Then come back here and comment.

i mean… it’s not as flexible as mercy’s beam if that’s what you’re comparing it to, but it’s still a lock on. the huge hitbox is what allows it to lock on.

They should just make her a long range hero. Swap her primary with right click feature and make her new secondary a beam. When you charge the beam to full power. It shoots out a mega beam similar to Zarya. but it fires across creating creating a devastating splash damage.

Functionally, both Symmetra and Moira’s beams work the same. Just because the animation locks on does not make it a lock-on weapon. The beam’s animation could literally go in loop-de-loops all across the map and it would still be literally the same thing.

i tried this and moira’s beam literally damages the bot even when my cursor isn’t on it.

i guess it’s settled. i mean, it’s been settled but some people are still in denial for some reason.

Prett, incorrect, see my previous post.

She definitely needs something. If not a lock on, then a mobility ability, or a defensive ability, or regen, or any semblance of range.

I’m sick and tired of the “just learn to aim” argument too. I main Zarya in comp. Tracking aim is my bread and butter. I like to think I’m reasonably good at it. But come on, if I’m sticking my beam to my target, you gotta reward me somehow. At the moment, If Sym and Zarya both open fire on a target at 0 charge, Sym doesn’t do more damage than Zarya until about the 4.25 second mark. Keep in mind, that’s if Zarya doesn’t gain any charge at all. Also, keep in mind Zarya has twice the health pool, and half again the range of Sym. Basically, you have a tank who, at her weakest possible state, is out DPSing a DPS by every conceivable metric. That’s inexcusable.

Yeah, “Learn to aim”. I know how to aim. And I also know enough to know that some heroes just flat-out don’t reward the skill they require at the moment.

Ok, I know we’re arguing about technicalities, but bear with me for a moment.

True lock-on exists in this game, and is defined by being “sticky”, staying attached to the targets out of its usual range. That’s mechanic of Mercy, and old Sym beam.

Moira’s is different because it lacks that quality of persistence. When it’s out of range, it instantly breaks.

I just think it’s important to differentiate between the 2, because one is asking for simply bigger hitbox, while other goes back directly to old Sym’s beam design.

It’s not incorrect… Did you understand my post?

Thank you DSPMankey, my thoughts exactly.

okay but the defintion of lock-on isn’t “sticky”. the definition is “locking on a target” which is exactly what moira’s beam does, allowing you to track with no effort.

Yes mysaeron, that’s exactly what I’m talking about

Please no the ability just need a slight damage buff nothing more.

Moira just has really really big area of actual targeting, and confusing animation to pair with it. That’s it. It doesn’t lock on to anything - it just hits inside its hitbox. Just like meme version of Hanzo is shooting logs, and not homing arrows. It’s virtually the same as Zarya’s beam - except Zarya’s is smaller and doesn’t have sticking animation.

Mercy’s beam though? Allow me to spin around like a madman, go behind that wall for a moment, and then all the way to the other side of the map. Still being healed for 2 seconds after that? Good.
