Symm only looks good because

taxibotting is not a niche/role.

Taxibotting starts and ends at being a taxi and in this game there is no magical 7th slot for heroes that are defined purely for utility.

Symmetra is not a support and never was and wont be without a massive playerbase-destroying rework, and she is unable to fulfill a DPS role AFTER deploying her taxi portal due to being a contradiction of a close range dps without the ability to stay at those ranges.

There is a healthy balance between agency and teamwork, and Sym had that kind of balance between agency and teamwork before, when she had survivaiblity AND utility that wasnt map dependant. In fact her first rework set out to fix something very similar to her current issue: TP was extremely situational to a point that made Sym not worth picking, and they did so by giving her an alternate ability that covered the situations where TP was worthless, and gave her more agency in the form of 75 barrier HP. Shield Gen was one of the best and most intelligent additions to Symmetra’s kit.

I agree completely. Which is why it’s confusing they put her down a soft brain set it and forget it turret route.

It was meant to be a flexible skill - both taxi and selfish mobility- but it came a the cost of Symmetra’s survivability. Which wasnt a good trade at all. In fact Blizz nerfworked it intentionally to nerf Sym’s solo potential with the infinite TP rework.

Its not worth it if it comes at the cost of a whole entire ability. Its like deleting Tracer’s recall but giving her a global team passive that increases movement speed by 5%.

I dont think sentries per se are easy to use, they have a lot of drawbacks that make them too precious to misuse - I think the issue is sentrybombing and how cheesey it is.

Sentries on their own are even underpowered, but construct TP kinda makes Blizz to balance them all around dumping all 3 into a support, hitting them with your blue balls and the TP-ing back to safety.

But that only works really once, then people understand how easy is to just pop a Sym or just destroy TP to strand her in an incoming 1v6 collapse.

Sentries are no longer Sentries they are now just a bootleg lock-on beam with 30s of cooldown after some people clamored for the removal of lock-on beam.

What makes you think it comes at the cost of anything? If they removed teleporter they are going to give you something of equal value.

Have you not seen people TPing through spawn to pin players? Rip Tires and Bombs going through TPs? That’s ignoring the obvious benefit of the TP - being able to just skip past choke points (i.e. Hannamura, Volskaya, etc.). The TP has a lot of utility beyond just getting out of spawn faster.

But the character is limited in design and requires too much support. You basically have to compose the entire comp around Symmetra and keeping her alive if you’re going to run her. This is why she sees a lot more success in lower ranks on ladder and in the Contenders/OWL than in between those two extremes.
