This is why the game will never be balanced. Blizzard doesn’t want it to be.
That’s because bastion bunkers are teamwork that lower ranks can pull off, and teamwork in lower ranks is the most broken thing in the game.
Tp bombs, or Car wash/Tp gates. Both deal 30 less dps and it feels awful.

They keep constant imbalance and shifting metas to attempt to keep players interested.
The problem is that when someone is playing the game so badly that it can be considered wrong their opinion of balance is based on incorrect information which makes their idea of balance worthless.
For example a player never groups up, ignores sound/visual cues and has no awareness of their surroundings.
This player keeps trying to jump on point where the enemy team has 6 players, They keep dying and decide their hero is under powered.
Or someone who keeps shooting Genji’s deflect for the full 2 second duration then claims it is OP because they always die to deflect despite it being entirely their fault for refusing to let go of primary fire even after seeing the deflect animation.
Their opinion isn’t irrelevant because “elitists” say it is, Their opinion is irrelevant because they don’t understand game mechanics and ignore lots of information which can make something balanced or not.
Higher ranked players often but not always understand the game mechanics and play the game as a team game which makes their opinion more valid than the bronze player who wont stop shooting deflect and claims it is OP.
tl;dr players doing the wrong thing and ignoring important game mechanics do not have valid opinions for balance because they ignore what makes something balanced.
Blizzard needs to decide what they want her to be and draw a line in the stand, that will make balancing her easy. None of this pussyfooting around anymore, because frankly, the OW player base is dumb as hell when it comes to Symmetra. Nobody played her correctly when she launched as support, even though she was great, and now, even after they have CAVED to the demands of the masses by making her have less turrets and require aiming, they still nerf her!
They need to pick a side and lead with it:
- A sym that functions as a spike damage character - high damage, low health turrets, throw them out and fry characters alive that don’t pay attention. Make it all about the TURRETS, not the gun or the ramp up to complicate things in balancing. That’s how most people want to play her anyways, turret bombing. Increase the time that turrets start zapping people (you know that animation where it sets up, but most die before that happens? remove that) and increase damage. Give her a movement speed increase or a skill to recharge her turrets instantly so she can continue building offensive, MOVEABLE turret webs. The ramp up gun will have to go, or they can make it like Moira grasp to keep with the less aim intensive design. Sorry, but Overwatch players will abuse or misunderstand a character who functions as a dual arena control and faux-melee character so all of the damage comes out. Then the rest of the community dies because they are not proactive enough to deal with Symmetra in engagements.
- OR go the opposite way and wake her a defensive character. Low damage turrets, but DURABLE. Increase HP on turrets, increase the speed at which they fly through the air, add an invulnerable period after they latch onto surfaces so they aren’t complete fodder, decrease the damage of them, increase the amount sym can throw out Make it so she has to build up webs between attacking, but it can be useful. Damage on gun and design says the same. Turrets will have a cumulative effect when attacking, you’ll either need to focus on getting your ramp up and throwing a couple turrets out for distraction and additional damage like moira orbs, or constantly adding and tending to turrets. This design is about fortification and DOT either through the gun or the collective turret amount. I suggest giving this sym additional health to make sure she can stay alive, or perhaps Zenyatta like design where she has a LOT of shields for natural regeneration.
Yeah, because she was kinda OP and oppressive in those ranks and that is coming for a person who mains Symmetra on the DPS slot and has been advocating for buffs for whole year…
But that does not mean that she deserves how she has been gutted, but really people in Platinum and below still present the grand majority of the player base and simply ignoring them in such situations makes no sense in a game like Overwatch…

There were plenty of complaints about sym after the beam “fix” from both low and high ranks

And after that not a peep, because no one played her in high ranks after that first nerf. People already started going Reaper/Doom instead.
Then people still complained about her, and she was just now nerfed 3 more times.
Honestly, i don’t think that these changes will make much of a difference rn. It looks like dive is coming back(to an extent at least) and the extra turret damage wouldn’t have helped her much.
Not exactly sure how strong she would be outside of double shield(pre nerf), but with it she’s over performing a bit, at least according to the stats.
30 damage total for all 3 is a lot.
The thing is, if the enemy run dive(especially winston dive) you’ll probably have nothing to turret bomb and your “nest” will be also shut down quickly. So, in this case, is making very little difference.
In other metas, however, turret bombs can be a major threat for some supports. That’s probably why they were nerfed.
Then maybe the question should be, “Why were they even nerfed in the first place?”
Considering OWL finals got rolled by Bastion, they kind of have a point. When characters like Bastion, Reaper, Moira and Brigitte stomp low ranks, it is at least a design problem even if it isn’t a balance problem.
He’s poorly designed, but overpowered? Nah. But I think he should have a partial rework. Not like sym or torb, but definitely like dva did.
Edit: actually I take that back. Not a sym/mercy rework, but a torb rework wouldn’t be bad since they kept all the same elements. He might be able to use that rn but bastion mains would riot.
Getting dive meta 2.0 is just an assumption. We may get another meta where her turrets would be much more effective. If so the turret nerf might have been a decent change.
My guess is that blizz are trying to make low self sustain supports more viable. People are getting tired of moira, but since there are several heroes(sym is one of them in some situations) that can make other supports live a living hell people can’t/ don’t really want to pick them.
