So I’ve had like 3 dcs in the past week (mind you I play a lot of overwatch), rejoined every game within a minute (and most of the time when I had a DC I still won the game) and now I have a 15 minute competitive suspension. It just seems dumb that you get the progress towards suspension even if you rejoined the game quickly when you don’t get the SR loss. It just seems like something that could be done pretty easily.

Unexpected DCs usually have a cause and getting suspended from competitive gives people an intend to try and fix the problem.
Even if it did end well for you most of the time it still bears a high potential to ruin a game for other players in the near future, so I guess the system is working as intended.

Unfortunately all disconnections and game crashes counts as leaving the match and will be penalized appropriately. The game server has no way to discern a legitimate disconnection or game crash from one that is forcefully caused by a dishonest player to bypass leaver penalties. Remember if you see the message, “Lost Connection to the Server” in the title screen or the message “Failed to Connect to Server” in yellow text in the text chat box, this means there is something that disrupted your connection to the game server and not a problem with the game server itself. There can be a variety of reasons this happens including those that don’t disconnect your computer from the Internet.
