Odd that you say that considering the main point of my thread is that healing has taken power away from tanks and that we should reduce healing but increase tank survivability.
They did, and the game is better for it Now they need to do just a bit more.
Well, if anything I do have an idea that would make it possible to remove some healing from healers.
Make it so that after getting a healpack, you get a temporary selfheal passive, that heals 10% off the remaining missing health per second. However if you take or give 1 point of damage, this effect is cancelled.
Would make it so healers could do a lot less healing.
Cant watch that video now, but ill look later. My math was based on medic doing 56% less healing while combat classes only have 12-25% less hp. Thats about a 30% difference. Regardless, you get two supports, and usually the second support will have better healing than mercy.
The enjoyment of playing tank is directly connected to the amount of healing in the game. I promise you that the number 1 problem people have with tank is the fact that it is so team-dependent.
The role of a tank is to create space and set up fights for their team. This is already a fundamentally team-dependent role. ON TOP OF THAT, your hp bounces around from the enemy dps and allied supports. Your healthpool is their battle ground. And if your support loses, you die.
In early overwatch, all the dps were basically āfairā. You could get in the face of a dps player and actually bully them for a decent amount of time. But over time, players started deathballing more, dealing more headshots, tank busters became viable, āfairā dps were buffed to compete with burst damage, and healing was increased to feel more āfunā.
This MMO mentality that healers are meant to heal tanks needs to go. Having an fps game with enough healing to properly sustain tanks will never be healthy. Tanks should be able to get in and create a fight, but they shouldnt be full health at the end of it.
Honestly Iām starting to wonder if healers even need compensation, their mobility and peeling is so high already they already can provide meaningfully.
I couldnāt agree more, Reinhardt shouldnāt need an Ana attached to him in order to function, he just should. It prevents the reinhardt from doing things without an Ana and it prevents the team from getting a supports attention.
What are supports meant to do, and if you give a pithy answer like āsupportā without expanding on it, then you are just avoiding admitting the problem there.
The issue is, the supports should be able to have some impact in the game, if not from healing then what?
The issue with pushing supports away from healing is that any utility that isnāt healing is hunted to the ends of the earth

Every supportive utility that isnāt yellow juice is always complained about, from lucio boop to fade. I personally wish supports were made more like old brig and zen but itās gonna take major changes and a lot of people whining
