Supports are in a very bad place right now

You ain’t dominating any same skill level DPSer as a none Valking Mercy bro.
Same for Ana
Bap even… Same boat to some extent.

If a DPS is near you, you’re pretty much dead.

thanks bestie. having adhd and depression, its really hard to get actual sleep, and when i DO manage to sleep, being woken up is miserable because i /cant/ go back to sleep. just because i cant sleep, doesnt mean i should be deprived of any type of game. this other guy is absolutely frickin weird.

Yes this pretty much was my thought.

Supports are in such a good position that there are two support queues. regular support and flex both get you a support game … cause they’re in such a great spot.

Support is the only role that I have gotten to almost GM with, 3856. It is an easy role if you position yourself well enough.

Won’t disagree with that you that much because now you’re talking about the PvP side of the game.

But then again, PvP in that game is mfs hugging a pillar for 2 hours straight while no one dies.

Nothing wrong with playing characters like Moira however healers are not tanks or DPS characters. If u want to play then they just play them. Healers are ment to heal and will therefore be a prime target too the enemy. Its up too the DPS and Tanks to protect you and its up too you to stay safe and heal ur team. Characters like Moira and Kiriko are already powerful and tanky enough and focused on doing DPS rather than Healing

Zenyatta definitely needs his heal orb looked at. It’s laughable that it even exists in the game right now considering how fast paced everything has become.

its a tier thing to be honest.
I have multiple accounts and they are all in different brackets of comp.
Bronze to silver is total chaos as you can imagine. Healers are getting insulted in chat/comms (wonder really if the anti toxic thing will clean that up).
Then it is gradually better. Gold is still a mix bag. A lot of people still haven’t understood what 1 tank only means for the team dynamic.
Diamond is fine and I would assume above that as well. Everyone works together and don’t leave a support in need.

My advice is to not play comp for the first season at least if you are in bronze. The only thing you will get is genji on you and your team complaining that you died and that you suck. Blizzard did a poor job of educating the community about the transition. Tanks won’t protect you but your entire team has to. Tanks are just glorified dps at this point (junker queen/doom fist are good example). Sure they will show you streamers in masters doing great but for most of the support players, it is almost impossible to play properly. I don’t think it is a tuning issue (ie adding more defensive won’t change the dynamic) but more a player maturity issue. Removing LFR is a dumb decision. At least you had an option to communicate before entering a game. Now it is yolo land and no wonder you get more xp by playing those class.

There is no git gud here. In order to git gud you just pick tank. The end. Healers are trash.

Cope harder.

So this is a more complex problem than is being given credit for. Here are the problems and why a simple adjustment cannot help.

  1. Part of the transition problem is that a number of peel tools has been removed from a large chunk of the cast of Overwatch. All the CC that everyone hated so much was often used to keep suppo4ts from being roasted.

That being gone has two detrimental effects on the lifespan of supports. First being the obvious “you aren’t being protected nearly as much as before” but the second, crucial component is “the other team’s bad guys have a lot of time freed up from peeling to devote to killing you”.

  1. The role of tank has changed pretty dramatically. Tanks no longer act as defenders, but as “charge leaders”, and this leads to supports being responsible not only for the lives of their teammates, but solely responsible for their own survival as well.

  2. Smart groups avoid tanks amd focuse supports first then DPS then tanks. Even tanks are focusing supports first.

  3. Tanks are really screwed up in this game. Really, really screwed up, bad. Some do way too much damage relative to their survival tools (I’m talking to you Sigma, Dva and Orisa), and the game was literally broken with Junkerqueen’s character model not being immediately distinguishabe as a tank, like every other tank in the history of Overwatch.

  4. There are a lot of new maps and people aren’t accustomed to all the flanking routes yet, and a lot of deaths occur from map ignorance. This is a problem which will eventually solve itself, but when added to all the above, feeds the “supports suck” view.

  5. This is a universal problem but it affects supports in a inique way. There are abysmally low amounts of accessible healthpacks on the new maps. This leads to injured heroes ducking out of combat and high pressure on supports to chase them down and heal them.

  6. There seems to be an abysmal level of positioning discipline universally in this game, from tanks charging headlong into multiple opponents to not paying attention to or using flanking routes, coupled wiyh positioning and cover being of crucial importance.

All of these things added up are causing the frustration that a lot of folks are feeling as supports in Overwatch 2, and they aren’t solved with “git gud” or making supports stronger.

I really hope they don’t nerf supports to do less healing. They need to be able to do more healing. Support healing is a fundamental part of this game and it needs to stay that way. I don’t want supports to feel like they could be better replaced with another dps. I want their healing to feel valuable to the team.
