Supports are acknowledged as "undertuned" by Blizzard

I mean the highest DPS on a primary weapon is soldiers 180. outside of that it’s limited to abilities cooldowns with restrictions like echo’s beam needing an enemy below 50%. Which now does 175 dps.

Cassidy does 140 dps.

What I would like to point out is that brig now has a flat 30% damage reduction on anything that hits her armor. So a fully charged hanzo head shot only does 170 POD.

She also has two forms of self healing, and a 250 barrier. With added mobility with shield bash that in it’s self does 50 pod.

with whiplash doing 70.

so using those two and a single swing gives her a burst of 155 damage. which can kill tracer, or any squishy tapped by 50 damage.

Mobile Husky-medic. Can leap, heals two players at once with a drone. Carries a turret on the back which shots automatically

Where exactly was this acknowledged by Blizz? Is there a link, post or something?

I would actually love that…

  • All Mercy needs is mass rez back…or alternatively more healing.
  • Ana needs the healing denial removed from her nade, its completely bs from day1. Meanwhile a slept target might as well be able to be 1 shotted by Ana herself with a melee or something without the need to use like 3 different things to finish off the target right in front of her face.
  • Good idea for Moira, fade should be able to leave a smokescreen behind or something.
  • Good idea for Brig as well, never thought about that in particular. Slap an instant full shield regen to it instead of inspire and its perfect. It could work like Mercy dash.

Mercy, lucio, and brig are main supports, not flex supports. Moira yea I completely forgot about her but apparently she’s along with ana are pretty strong.

If your tank is a troll or significantly outmatched, the team is doomed. Trolls are given too much agency and the matchmaker has always been very poor. I expect a severe decline in the player experience.

Honestly though, that moira one does sound interesting! Like 2 secs after fading enemy primary fire has a chance to miss her? Beats upping her damage or her heal

they need to give brig her bash back, you cant increase mobility across the board and take away supports counter to it, Ana has +3 seconds to sleep for some reason. It is extremely shortsighted to force more frequent 1v1s and then take way supports ability to not even win, but hold a 1v1

5 v 5 is a self created problem.

Kind of a weird blanket statement. They had very different opinions before Andy said that. Some even putting heroes like Lucio or even Mercy at S tier and not needing many changes if at all. I think this is just appeasing self-identifying support players who are being highly pessimistic over not getting anything new.

I just wish they tried something new, the other roles got some new toys to play with but supports just got nerfs (justified, but lackluster)
Ow2 is the perfect chance to innovate, it’s frustrating they did nothing, at least for this first round of Beta testing
Fingers crossed they do try to give supports a fresh coat of paint and really get creative with what they could give to them, and not make them either DPS’ with healing abilities, or spawn simulators

I hope this is true, because the state in the Alpha, in which they’ve received basically no changes despite such a different landscape has me gobsmacked lol

That’s because Mercy and Lucio are the only supports that wouldn’t really need any changes to fit into 5v5 effectively, so they automatically become S tier supports.

Idk, working out that killing the squishies with minimal tools to defend themselves that keep the rest of their teammates alive are the best target to take out first isn’t really a cheese strat; it’s online multiplayer game 101. It was the case in OW until the (at the time) monstrosity that was brig came out.

Lucio definitely needs healing buffs - he is the only support whose healing got consistently reduced by 16% with one target less for his constant healing.

New ping system ensures that supports will have to constantly fend off coordinated assaults from enemy players with half the potential peels. Even a half baked coordination and focus fire is very easy to achieve with ping system, as players can easily follow up on very clear directions. OW1 supports needed to play at the back and not draw aggro and play out of vision to be able to play the game and have value and survivability to do their thing, in OW2 with ping system they can no longer do that and will have permanent marker on their heads and bloodthirsty enemy players hunting them down like wolves. Sombra exacerbates this problem because she can scout in stealth too. Sombra pinging enemy supports and coordinating with flanker/diver is actually going to be OP and will make players feel overwhelmed when they’re suddenly hit by a casual turbodive on qp.

This is probably a major reason why supports feel poor to play in OW2. A major reason why the most evasive, mobile supports feel better than stationary ones is because they can juke enemies better and Moira can disappear and drop the enemy ping with fade too, so she stays alive and doesn’t draw all the focus fire.

A fairly big oversight imo when implementing the ping system, which can be abused against a role which has far less tools to fight back now, especially against coordinated assaults and focus fire.

I’ll agree that Moira does need a powershift. If you want o give Brig more damage then you need to give her less sustain.

Otherwise supports can 1v1 dps just fine.

It seems like as a support you can no longer sit behind your team, with 2 tanks between you and the enemy and be in relative safety just healbotting your 2 tanks and occasionally your dps. Not that’s the most optimal way to play even in the current game, but you can get away with it a bit more.

It sounds like the support players that heal bot in the current game are in for a rude awakening come OW2

That’s not to say you shouldn’t be healing. But it sounds like you’re going to have to contribute to the actual fight more and take actual duels now. Like people are gonna be coming for you. Cause you’re what’s keeping the powerful tank and your powerful dps alive.

I think that’s what’s worrying people about supports - whether they have the tools to survive well enough against being targeted a lot more heavily and when they have to take a duel, whether they feel like they’re just getting run over. Cause being run over again and again isn’t exactly fun. It seems like some supports may be better in this regard than others.

I do think supports - definitely some more than others - are going to need some love. I’m not talking let’s just full on buff all supports to the brim so they can survive anything and do what they want and blah blah blah. But it seems like they’re gonna need some tweaking and a bit of help. Again, some heroes more than others.

But it’s still really early days. Only a smallish group have got to play yet. There’s still a lot of things to figure out about the game. There’s plenty of time to make changes and gather feedback. And it seems the devs are aware that supports might need a bit of love

I think the best thing we can do is see what changes have been made for the beta. See what’s what. And make sure we all give feedback in a constructive way.
