The problem is balancing balance with fun - supports may have been balanced in beta 1 but nobody wanted to play it, thus all these changes
The problem is the 2nd tank shuts down a lot of aggressive support play in OW1. If I flank with Lucio in OW1 a D.va will chase me down or Zarya will bubble whoever I attack. If I’m not behind my tanks I’m usually dead. In OW2 that happens a lot less and I can take fair duels which makes the game more fun, at least for Lucio players.
The way I see it.
OW1 with 2 tanks gives dps/mobile supports the option to play aggressively while staying mobile if they want. I play mobile dps supports and I love it. OW2 isn’t going to change my game. It’s just forcing more pressure and more responsibility. Now I have less options. Which isn’t bad for me because I have always played an secondary support as aggressive as possible. I have always played OW2 support style. But for people who don’t like that, they get screwed.
Ow 2 forces people to be mobile and aggressive, while also dealing with a shorter ttk for their teammates.
Ow2 has a longer ttk. Not by much, but it IS longer.
Then use your kit offensively too, what is the problem? May be you just play very passive heroes or passive as a player in general?
That is not true, mercy main value is still in her damage boost and resurect. You probably have never played with good dps duo.
That is true, because ow1 spoiled players, and now they are forced to play the same offensive as the other roles have been playing.
Well, sometimes you don’t have other choice, your will should be under your motivational control, or this will take control over you instead.
Maybe it just seems shorter with 1 less tank. And the one tank seems to go down faster because so much more damage is being spewed at the tank, making it harder to keep the tank alive.
You can’t stand out in the open for extended periods of time in ow2.
Which also means that it’s much rarer to get focused by 6 enemies at once. So lower ttk.
They are adapting - they are adapting by not playing support, same as I did when I became a Mei / Sombra main.
What I think the issue is that they can’t get into the flow of the game because they are constantly having to fight off flankers.
If you job is constantly interrupted all the time, you are not going to have fun trying to do it.
The flanker is able to get into a flow state, because there isn’t an interruption to their game play, however, they are the interruption to the support play. One side has their main game loop interrupted all the time, and the other doesn’t.
Since OW2 has flankers able to get to the supports more, and the game play is faster, the interruptions happen more.
So the support game play is less fun.
Then ping and move toward your teammates. You don’t have to duel although moiras wont let you choose not to.
see that doesnt work.
She could copy a support.
also Ana basically forces 2 support to not heal
A support is more than a healer. (they ARE called supports not healers)
echo specifically would of been extremely versatile to flow of a fight.
the talk they had around ashe’s release.
they said they know game needs more tanks and support and a tan kand 2 support were in works.
sigma was our tank, bap the sup, and echo was (originally) the 2nd support. They changed her thoguh due to them not liking her ult being on a support.
its because at time queue time were worse than now and ppl kept complaining.
They also said that they might also add some heroes on consecutive seasons if possible, so there’s that. But yeah, it kinda sucks either way.
Alright, good to know!
Hopefully they do that lol
True. But not only that, but because you had a second tank on your team as well that you had to keep alive, flanking in general and ignoring your tanks as a support was more risky. Providing sustain to your teammates was simply way more valuable as a support in OW1 than just being aggressive and getting kills in general.
It seems like you get punished a lot less now for not focusing as much on healing in OW2 since you can bring just as much value to the table by fragging as well even as a support.
Whereas before in OW1, supports didn’t have that many tank busting heroes outside of zenyatta who couldn’t flank that well. And tank busting was kind of necessary if you wanted to hard carry almost unwinnable games in OW1. But in OW2, tank busting isn’t as important because there’s only one tank now.
Funny you mention Mercy and Brig’s reworks when people did not, in fact, get used to them over time.
We lost most of our support playerbase over those reworks.
Mercy/Brig players gave lots of feedback on how the reworked supports were not fun to play, tried to explain what made them fun before, and offered suggestions on how to fix them… But when it became clear that the devs would never address support player’s grievances, support players simply left.
Why in the world would you think that ramming unpopular playstyle changes down support players’ throats will go any differently THIS time?
Or she could copy literally any other role, and team has -1 support, until her ult ends.
I still don’t find support very strong or fun. In OW2 the supports are left to survive on their own and are constantly being assaulted with little to no help accept maybe from the other support if they aren’t already in the respawn room.
Support generally don’t have the tools to take on a Genji or Tracer for example, or at least are at a huge disadvantage. Meanwhile your tank and dps are rushing down their support with little regards to your position or struggles with flankers and LOSing you and forcing you out into the open to try and heal them, exposing you to their Sniper or Hitscan hero or JQ. So you respawn and get back to the fight and their Genji ults and you just wait to die because no one has any reliable answer to that ability and he goes straight for the two support first ofcourse and almost always gets a free kill on the two support at least. So straight back to the spawn room.
Its all very frustrating and it feels bad. Its chaotic trying to manage it all and I feel like support spend more time in the spawn room or running back to the fight than playing the game. I have played dps a lot and yes you die quickly because time to kill is so low now but it still doesn’t feel so bad because you can also easily kill them first and it feels like dps have more self-focused utility. Every time I try playing support on beta I just end up logging out in frustration. and now they just nerfed Zen’s HP? They are are either clueless are listening to dps streamers too much.
Funny how some people think that a support need be offensive tand do a lot of damage to be fun, skillful and playable.
And that is 100% wrong. Just show an elitis way of think, like saying that the dps is the only one skillful and the only one who do stuff, thinking that healing is subpar.
Is like say on warcraft that the healers innraid are not so fun and are no skill because do not damage… Omg
Sadly blizz heard that people and now ow2 looks damagefest were all what matters is do a lot of damage. And to avoid make dps un happy, they with CCs and a second tank so flankers doenst have ansiety
