Support Role and Specific Heroes - Why are they here?

  1. I’d say it’s to give them more sustain as supports are the ones keeping the team alive. After all, supports are the primary target and will get focused often. If they wouldn’t have strong abilities to stay alive or be have enough damage to carry, no one would play support at all. That being said, there definitely is a support power creep and I hope they don’t buff supports too much to be unbearable to play against.

Combining dps and support wouldn’t do much - why pick a support over a dps? It’s much easier to do only one thing (damage) than two (damage and healing).

  1. Especially in lower ranks, damage is way better than healing if your dps aren’t doing anything. If you can hit your shots, you can easily carry on support. Which brings me to your example - generally being good on one role doesn’t mean they’re good on the other, but mechanics, game sense and whatsoever carries over.

The matchmaker only looks at the mmr from the role you’re playing with the other player’s mmr on their respective roles.

  1. Supports are supposed to keep their team alive AND help them with utility (e.g. Kiriko Rush to help push through chokes, …). The utility can be anything - anti-nading the enemy team, getting picks, flanking to take pressure off the tank and pressure the enemy, creating off-angles, following up on ults like Sigma’s flux or Rein’s shatter.
