Suggestion for Mei's primary, OW2

I’ll be honest, I don’t like how Mei feels in OW2. Primary fire does have it’s uses but doesn’t feel satisfying to use. I think it should be reworked a bit.

My thought is, let Mei’s primary fire fan out, and instead of slowing the enemy, it inflicts them with “Frostbite”, which is a damage over time effect.

Mei basically becomes a Pyro like character, where she does damage over time, and she uses her ice wall and alt fire to quickly finish off characters that try to move out of her range.

Its already 100 dps piercing

If it had a DoT the dps would need to go down, so Im against this

Damage is less consistent without the slowdown effect. The damage numbers would more or less balance out with Mei performing perhaps slightly better, which isn’t a bad thing since a lot of players believe she underperforms in OW2

Shes being used pretty often in OWL so far

Maybe they should lean into that. Like Icicle does more damage to Slowed enemies.

Or frost on the ground gives a speed boost.

I was playing her last night and froze and then headshot an annoying reddit Lucio and instantly a huge smile came on my face and I laughed. Then I remembered they are removing this. I suddenly said out loud ‘‘How the HELL can they remove this?’’

It is for me and no doubt others the most fun, satisfying thing in Overwatch, I wish they would change their mind, feels criminal removing it. It is so awesome and fun that it should stay even if it slightly annoys some people.

100 dps gets realistically outhealed by Zen orb. “Piercing” in a game where the maps are more open and 9 million characters got hyper mobility so nobody is ever grouped up. Her left click was less than useless. Slow projectile that has terrible range that gets negated by the worst healing in the game is literally useless.

They dont want people nullifying mobility cheese because corporate says Mobility Attracts Viewers.

100 DPS isn’t that much really. It SOUNDS like a lot, but how long does it take for anyone else to deal out 100 damage? Like, if you look at the cast, 100 DPS is actually kind of low.

I haven’t run the numbers on this, but I think if you apply reloading, and a 40-50% hitrate, or armor. Because Mei’s freeze isn’t 100% accurate, it isn’t entirely wrong. Even if it isn’t a complete nullification of damage. Something like 50% hit rate because targets jump and strafe is 50 DPS, not 100, then armor for… 20?30%? I don’t know what armor is. And a reload.

She has a 7.5sec spray time before needing to reload and it takes her 2sec to kill a squishy, or just under 3sec with harmony orb

Her spray now applies the 50% movement debuff instantly making it extraordinarily easy to track the target. She may as well have a longer range, higher dps Rein hammer in OW2.

Just for reference Mercy deals 100dps with her pistol and can headshot.

I don’t see why Mei would need to lose damage given that OP’s suggestion is to trade the slow for frostbite. Although maybe it’d work out better to trade piercing for damage; I can see the piercing, damaging beam causing Mei to be kept in the dumpster sit in a niche where you bring her out for the indoor Lijang and Oasis maps with Rein and Lucio (or whatever) but most of the time renders her an unappealing choice.

That’s a surprising amount of damage

On slow moving tiny projectiles.

That seems like alot til you remember she has to be in close range and have perfect tracking.
Soldier for example does 180 dps. 360 if he headshots since we are talking about perfect aim which is 3.5 times maes dps. And a much much further range, and he’s hitscan so his tracking is also much easier to aim it…
Yeah, her primary has problems

I think they should give Mei flamethrower instead of her Endothermic Blaster. And a flameproof suit instead of her winter coat. And put a gas mask over her face too.

zen heals 30/hps.
to undo 100 dps takes 3 1/2 seconds.

mei in OW2 has more ammo per clip and a less than 2sec reload.

zen will not out heal mei even with 50% accuracy.

TTK gets increased so much that it becomes pointless attempting to kill anyone getting any form of healing using the leftclick. A none hitscan, slow, short moving beam at “100 dps” isn’t in practice ever going to be 100 dps since that assumes you are hitting every single tick for the entire seconds. Which unless you are attacking a hero like Zenyatta isn’t going to happen.
There is a reason the past 3 years+ of OW has been dominated by 1 shots or high burst damage heroes and not sustain damage.
