Streamers are trying to silence 5v5 complaints

Multiple people ITT thread claiming people only disliked 2CP because they were brainwashed by streamers :sob: who could possibly find that mode unfun organically?? It was so good they removed it from the game

True but people expected it to be so they turned it into one but were not prepared development wise to do so

The devs themselves said they only originally planned a year or so of content which is common with boxed games. Look at CoD, they support those games for a year or so then move on. But with how big ow1 was, winning GoTY etc, they couldnt just stop so they ended up turning into a live service by demand of the players wanting more heroes and maps

Premium games do not get 3-4 years of major content updates lol. Name 1 premium game that gets monthly content for free for 3-4 yrs. you cant. You get maybe 1 if you are lucky and even that is usually some paid dlc or expansion

Perhaps but that isnt what players want. They want new heroes and maps every couple months for years. That is not possible with a premium box product. Like i said 1 yr max is usually the level of support a premium game gets

Thats 1 option or the other is f2p live service

If ow 2 had sold box price for $70 in 2022 it would have released with 3 new heroes, then included the last year worth of content up to illari and then already have been dropped by now for them to start developing and selling you ow3 later this year with 3 more new heroes and another year worth of content before selling you ow4 in 2026

Thats what you are asking for with a boxed premium model. Personally I would much rather take the 1 game that is continuously updated than have to buy a new game every 2 years to keep playing

You are not realising the blatant fact video games didnt use to get constant patches and content updates which is what people have come to expect. They used to ship and then that was the game.

Times have changed and people would rather have more content for their favourite games than sequels. They dont want to have to keep buying a new sequel every couple years. They want to get the game once and have their time respected by that 1 game being updated for years in the future. That is what gamers want

You seem to have no conception of cause and effect at all. Everything you say is completely reversed.

The reason we got 3 heroes at launch is BECAUSE it was live service. No one would buy a sequel with that little content, which even Blizzard knows. They would not release a sequel with that small amount of content.

You’re just taking all the aspects of this live service and saying “it would be worse if they sold it at full price.” I’m telling you that the REASON that amount of content is so small is BECAUSE the live service model allows them to get away with making that little amount of content. A sequel could not exist with only 3 new heroes. It’s an impossibility. I’m telling you that a full price sequel would necessarily have MORE content than OW2. If they don’t make enough content, it doesn’t come out until they do. That’s the point. That’s why it is the superior model, because you actually buy something that exists rather than investing into the promise of something in the future (that will inevitably disappoint).

They make LESS content, it’s only the pace of release that makes you FEEL like it’s more. OW1 launched with 21 heroes at launch!!! That’s SEVEN TIMES the number of new heroes OW2 released with!!! This isn’t even a competition.

OW2 launched with 3 heroes, compared to OW1’s 21 heroes at launch. OW2 actually launched with FEWER maps than OW1 had, as they removed a ton of old maps.

Even if “amount of content” is your only concern, the live model of OW2 gave us LESS. We still have less new heroes than OW1 launched with, and will for a very long time. There may never be 21 OW2 heroes, in fact.

Saying the live model give you more content is basically admitting you are easily duped by simple marketing tricks and can’t do basic math. OW2 will never give us as many heroes as OW1 launched with. It will be on maintenance mode long before then.

You realise it takes them a year to make 3 heroes right?

They only had 21 heroes at the launch of ow1 because they had been working on it for years prior to that point plus having a back catalogue of designs and ideas dating back to titans development to reuse assets from.

There is no reality where ow2 would have released with the same or anywhere near the amount of heroes as ow1 did. Not even realistic to have more than 5-6 new heroes compared to where ow1 was left in the time between them.

Unless you wanted a 6-7yr wait between ow1 ending and ow2 releasing to get the content you are expecting, your expectations are unrealistic

That’s kind of ridiculous to say, honestly. Overwatch was now 6 years old in 2022, and it is neither the first nor the last live service game :point_left: to become F2P and cross platform to open up to further connections with as many players as possible. it’s an approach that several online games have taken that previously had to pay for access like ow1 was. the change was made mainly due to a demographic issue: more online players having access to the game.

Rather (and here the controversy should be more sensible to make) the factor that Blizzard should have corrected was the training phase which so far is based solely on "progressively unlock the 32 overwatch heroes as you learn to play in any type of mode ", and in my opinion it is not doing it well with a fairly poor AI and very approximate skill instructions compared to other video games.

if you are referring to 6v6, I remember a period in which as soon as a minimum Meta was formed between two tanks they would nerf each other to the point of killing them for any type of combination. for example Orisa who had been so nerfed for her combo with sigma… that it now ONLY worked if you played with sigma while with any other tank it was a trash pick. or when they nerfed d.va excessively because she got along too well with winston. or reinhardt for zarya. and the differences between off and main tanks. I mean, do we REALLY forget HOW tanks were nerfed in OW1? :grimacing:

let’s be clear, I simply think that 5v5 and 6v6 have “different” problems. but to say that tanks were less mistreated in the past is a lie.

im not a streamer but ive adapted to 5v5 just fine but aaron listens to streamers that is the problem

OW2 HAD 2 YEARS BETWEEN WHEN OW1 STOPPED BEING UPDATED AND WHEN OW2 WENT INTO EARLY ACCESS

OW1 HAD 5+ YEARS OF DEVELOPMENT BEFORE IT EVEN RELEASED TO BUILD UP A ROSTER OF 21 HEROES. PLUS EVEN THEN THE DEVS REUSED OLD TITAN IDEAS AND DESIGNS FOR OW1

NOT EVEN COMPARABLE. YOU ARE COMPARING 2 YEARS VS 5+ YEARS OF DEVELOPMENT. OF COURSE OW1 HAD MORE HEROES IT HAS 3x THE DEVELOPMENT YEARS + WASNT FIGHTING FOR RESOURCES WITH PVE

No they’re not. Statistics was responsible for that. They have the internal stats for leavers on a map basis in modes like QP.

These are mostly open queue issues you talked about.

And plenty of people whined about Zarya; her beam no longer changes in hitbox size with charge and she got a handful of nerfs to grav (reduced radius) and damage.

The only way you could believe this is if you don’t know that fighting games exist.

All I see here is more evidence of what we all already know – Blizzard is bad at making games.

They more than doubled the size of the team. Hello?

It seems like you think Blizzard’s terrible level of production is just an ironclad rule of game development. It isn’t. They are exceptionally mismanaged and have experienced severe brain drain for many years now. We all know this. This is not a secret or a conspiracy theory. Just because they are bad at their jobs doesn’t mean they get a pass, why on earth would it?

Ok and are we just forgetting gtav came out 11 yrs ago and since it came out the focus was on supporting GTA online as a live service product because people were hooked on that lol?

Im not saying games never get and players dont want sequels. Im saying when they do get a game or sequel they want to invest into it for years

People are excited for gta 6 but thats after 11 years of them supporting gta 5, now they are ready for the next one.

The content drought sunk the game.

Does Aaron listen to streamers, or does Aaron and his marketing team tell the official Blizzard streamers what to say to sway public opinion before they make their changes?

you gotta be trolling right ?

You seriously are not comparing fighting games which reuse characters, rigging, animations, moves etc and still have 4-5yrs between game releases to overwatch where every hero is unique with custom kits, animations and lore.

Btw mk 11 came out in 2019, mk1 came out 2023. Thats a 4yr gap between titles. Double the gap between ow1 and ow2 and still people have criticised mk1 for lacking in content and being halfbaked

Funny thing is most people have admitted they would rather mk11 have continued being updated than the devs make mk1

Fighting games will soon become live service watch your back. Why make a new fighting game every 3-4 yrs when you can just make 1 and keep adding new fighters for years and years and years. It will happen sooner rather than later. You already have games like multiversus dipping their toe into that f2p live service fighting game genre

its been said aaron and flats are in talks currently which to me is bad…really bad

Huh? I’m sorry, what year do you think OW1 came out, and what year do you think OW2 came out?

Ow2 wasnt being worked on properly until 2019/2020 because their attention was on ow1

They werent working on ow2 in 2016 lol
