If its a unique reward yes. Limiting the users choice to create that condition artificially does not work this way.
If you have a scenario where people want to grind comp to get the unique limited-time jade weapon, preventing them from purchasing the gold gun will have no impact on their desire to do so.

They said that Jade weapons will be unavailable as of early next year (Jan or Feb, can’t remember which month) to be presumably replaced by something new (ex. Sapphire, Ruby, Onyx, etc.)
Don’t be so generous. We can be very certain no one is getting promoted from such a minor, low impact, zero profit iteration on an already minor, low impact, zero profit feature.

But that’s the only reason people even play comp (that and bragging about their rank, I guess). And since there are imaginary internet points to gain there, people get toxic because of it. They’re gonna call it a “gg” after one teamfight and AFK in comp and and they’re gonna completely not try in QP cause “this isn’t comp”.

No, you can still use them for golden weapons.
Changing the hue isnt much work at all. Theres zero 3d modeling or complicated texture work involved. The jade weapons are identical to the gold except its hue shifted to green. In a program like substance painter thats literally just moving a single slider.
I know alot of people who were excited about it and enjoy showing off their jade weapon. Plenty of people dont like how it looks, but thats not a univeral opinion.
It’s on the list of known bugs. They just don’t fix it lol
