That can make a difference if everyone is actually trying to break the shield but if we have a flanking roadhog feeding that can do alot of damage shield, and that mcree as well. Then it’s pretty pointless to have a shield in the end.
I had a match earlier today. We had the worst tank combination possible. Sigma and Hog. They don’t provide enough value against a team comp that consisted of:
Rein Zarya Widow Hanzo Ana Zen.
We had me on widow (switched to Doom later because there was literally 0 space) and other dps on Hanzo.
Literally it didn’t stop. How many gold medals the hog and Sigma had. Like I had 23 elim, which was gold, had bronze damage, but it’s expected when you’re playing a Widow.
Opponent didn’t finish the map but apparently it was a loss in the halftime.
So our tanks went Dva and Zarya against a widow and Hanzo. We lost by 1.5m in OT third point.
Was that anyone else’s fault other than tanks’?
Btw, at the end had all of those gold medals they talked about this entire time. Healers stopped healing dps since ‘you aren’t worth it’.

Conversely, when I que as Tank I normally play Rein or Orisa and I never hear anyone ask me to switch to anything. Ever.

i think this thought of having a barrier is more so that the team itself can have an anchor point, without it they feel lost and the fights feel more chaotic.
but in reality it’s just a comforting blanket that doesn’t necessarily do much for them.

The thing is, people don’t care how others might feel.
I was on Ana in a comp match. Playing with a Widow. She wasn’t doing much (not a dps main. Probably just playing to have fun). I refused to heal. However, later I realized how much of an A hole I was. I still feel sorry about that moment.
But well, there are people who would never assume they ever had a bad match or a day or whatever. Everyone’s perfect at what they do.

People need to ask themselves three questions
- Am I earning money from playing this game
- What do I gain from winning?
- What do I gain from losing?
For question 1 It’s gonna be a No for me ( Which lets be honest is going to be the answer for the massive majority of us. ). Then people need to take a step back and focus on improving their own performance instead of spending half the match watching the kill feed / watching their teammates.
For question 2 What do you get for winning? Virtual XP? maybe a little competitive number goes up a little bit? That’s it. You’re not getting paid, You’re not going to get signed up for OWL as a result.
For question 3 What do you get for losing? Virtual XP? maybe a little competitive number goes down a little bit? That’s it. You’re again not getting paid regardless. If anything you’re probably tilted at this point Effing and blinding at your ‘trash’ team for losing.
At the end of the day Overwatch ( for us ) is a video game. Purely meant for entertainment. If you’re not having fun. You’re playing the wrong game.
You should be able to lose matches and still have fun. People only say gg nowadays when they win / are winning. Losers only say gg when they give up or are angry at their teams hero picks.

The core problem is, with the way this game is managed, it just is not possible for a sober person to lose and still have fun. There’s nothing amusing about fighting, say, Widow, 18 times in a row, win or lose.

but fighting a widow 18 times in a row should give you some practice dealing with said widow.

I can not understate the value however, in having a shield tank. I acknowledge it to the point that when I queue for tank it’s usually me that does it. Not because I want to (I would rather be playing Dva honestly) but because it makes that much of a difference in whether we win or lose.
It’s oftentimes incredibly difficult for supports to keep up with incoming damage with no mitigation on the field and even to get into position to do their jobs with every sniper on the map gunning for them and nothing to hide behind.
I feel like, well my feelings on this are kind of odd. On the one hand it feels to me like an incredibly selfish choice to have two non-barrier tanks. On the other why even play this game if it boils down to you constantly cleaning up after a bunch of thankless, bratty children who constantly demand your help and do nothing to help you in return. Who even sometimes actively harass you for the difficulties that not giving you that help creates. Might be why I really only play for events these days. So who knows, maybe you have the right idea, but your team would probably be better off with a barrier tank.

In QP sure but in comp? Playing a double off-tank is just asking to lose.
Not only do they feed enemies a ton of ult charge with the exception of Zarya but you’re practically leaving your team to die since snipers have 100% free reign unless you’re constantly on top of them as someone like Hammond.

Oh dude don’t you love it? People would cry that nobody would pick tank. So now you pick tank and they want to tell you what tank to play as well. So not only are they getting the small pool of tank players to fill slots, but now they want to tell them what to play as well.
I’ve never seen such entitled players in my life.

I dont mind people asking for a switch or maybe suggesting heros.
But dont tell people what heros to pick.
I had a guy scream at me to play Pharah, when in 17 seasons and never touched her once.
